In a way you gotta feel sorry for Lex. Growing up all he wanted was for his father to love him. But Lionel never showed it to Lex because he thought Lex had killed Julian. Turns out it was Lex' mother who killed Julian. Reason being, she didn't want him growing up and being like Lionel. Still no reason to kill your baby. So when Lex finally gave into his dark side like his father always wanted, Lionel turned a new leaf and the two where at odds again.

I will always stand by Lex. I love smallvilles cast but overall I love it's more realistic and human side on a typical story of a comic book hero where he is never seen making mistakes, lying, being manipulative, deceptive etc. This series had me immediately gravitating towards Lex. As a kid who never really cared for most of the superheroe comic stuff this series became a part of me. Lex was constantly lied to, betrayed and hurt by the people who he attempted even in the slightest way getting close to. Clark happened to be the one that Lex truly found a bond, connection a brotherhood he painfully longed for his whole life. Sure Lex had his role and was guilty of his own secrets but despite all of that he genuinely "loved Clark like a brother". Clark was the one who sent Lex over the edge. I connect with Lex because if you look beyond the surface of his very successful and privileged life you'll see he was just a boy deeply hurt and disconnected from everyone around him. The childhood and early years of the young billionaire reveals the source of his later insanity. Parental neglect, never being commended for his efforts and dedication to proving himself worthy of any kind of validation or approval from his horrible father Linol. You can see the endless amount of sadness and hurt in Lex's eyes and expression as he watches his father once again walking away from him in disgust in this clip. I didn't really have my father that long but in my life I have felt everything we see displayed by Lex in this series. All that said the man truly wanted to be some kind of a heroic figure for the world. He really believed that he could save humanity from destruction using science. You were the hero the world never got to see Lex. It's all because of the overly hyped and inflated Clark kent who is ying deceiving and manipulative piece of shit driven by a good guy ego.

Lex has literally killed people on this show including his brother that he cloned. The man that he loved like a brother, Clark - he put his family's safety in jeopardy just to find out his secret. What kind of sick bastard does that? Clark is no saint, but the lengths you guys go to paint him as a monster is incredible. People don't have to choose to be murderers just because of the hardships they went through. Oh, and he also manipulated Lana into staying with him by making her believe she was pregnant but had a miscarriage. That was my favorite.

Lionel is such a hypocrite. He cloned people himself. Where did he think lex learn that - to do everything to get what you want? Tho I kinda get that what lex doing is worse than what was doing Lionel. Julian was the only thing what kept lex on the good side, what motivated him to be good. He loved Julian. His unresolved trauma from Julian's death and other painful experiences and choices led him to complete loneliness and sort of madness. He lost perspective of morality. Having cloning technology, he cloned his own brother. I doubt Julian would what that. And we know who ended with clone Julian. Lionel on the other hand experimented without getting involved with his heart (I guess he had one after all). It still was wrong.

Lionel has nobody to blame but himself for the way Lex has turned out. The majority of Lex's life was corrupted by Lionel. Lionel and his methods of life and business kinda made Lex into this character. But Lionel is not all to blame for Lex turning evil. The majority was surely done by Lionel. The fact that Clark(understandably) didn't trust Lex also contributed to the eventual evil Lex character as well.

When Pete ,Chloe and Lana found out they didn,t try to blackmail him or anything they helped him and protected him and I feel like lex would have done the same if Clark trusted him he love Clark a brother it only when Clark start to treat him like a villain that when thing got complicated because the one good thing in his life was gone with Clark out of his and incorging his better angels he when to a dark places Iam no way

Well, not for most of Lex's life. He didn't protect his son like Snape protected Harry he was much worse than Snape. And unlike Snape, he didn't change until long after Lex was an adult when it was too late for him to save his son from what he made him into. Snape was a cruel dick to Harry, but he genuinely did protect him from evil whereas Lionel taught his son evil and that it was a tool used by wise and powerful men to be great. It's not so much that Lionel himself changed on his own but that Jor-El being inside him changed him fundamentally and made him a better person. It was also Clark's influence that helped him become a better man. But even when he became a good man and protected Clark he still wasn't being a good father to Lex because he basically felt he was a lost cause and cared more for Clark than Lex. But you're right about him being a complicated character. It's debatable whether he truly loved Lex or not, but for most of his life I'd argue he didn't, not really. He blamed him for killing Julian and after Julian and Lilian died he was a cruel and unforgiving man obsessed with power and the traveler. He was a killer before Lex was even born when he murdered his shitty parents. (Which I guess Lex also learned from Lionel.) Lex was molded by his father's teachings. He became the villain we all know because of his father. I liked Lionel as Clark's new father figure, but he still wasn't a great father to Lex even after seeing Clark as a son.

From a friend to many in Smallville, to a deceitful manipulator, to straight evil. Another character that I was tired of about halfway through the series is Lana. I loved it. It was one of the few good things the show did - it was great dichotomy of diverting paths. As Lex descended into madness, the same madness his father reveled in, Lionel was in the path to redemption and on the verge of becoming a good man - the kind of man Lex would have loved to have as a father. And through it all, it was because of Clark. While Clark brought out the worst in Lex, he brought out the best in Lionel, which is why Lionel gravitated to Clark's way as a father figure.

Cloning Julian is directly connected to Lionel. Why would 12th y o lex cover that his mother killed his brother? Oh right bc he already leant that his father would make her life hell that death would be a mercy. I think lex had that expression for a reason. Maybe Lionel didn't abuse lex physically but his parenting was a way of torture. Lilian killing Julian is a proof of it. She didn't want him to end up like lex or worse. Obviously lex's trauma from Julian's death wasn't resolved even tho he remembered what happened. It still left damage. With everything piling up, no wonder lex going evil paths. Of course it's not only Lionel's fault. Lilian wasn't a good mother too even tho lex wants to see her that way. She was very broken. People also judged lex in school, first days in smallville and every season afterwards where judging became reasonable bc he gave in to dark side more and more.
