Our tomatoes are still inside. We did plant cabbage, cauliflower, onions, leek, a few kinds of lettuce, spinach, radishes, mustard greens, arugula, dill, parsley and kale outside. All are hanging in there but these winds we keep getting are horrible. My neighbor grows lots of marigolds so we trade her for tomato seedlings. I told her I wanted only dwarf marigolds and instead she gave me giant white marigolds that are huge. I've had to up pot them 3 times already and they are just starting to flower inside now. Been picking Asparagus and a few sprigs of volunteer mustard greens and lots of green onions. Can't wait to get the tomatoes outside.

HAPPY PLANTING!!!YOUR TOMATO PLANTS ARE LOOKING SO GOOD. It is too early here to plant. We have such horrible winds that is a huge issue & of course frost. I normally don’t plant until after May 15 for my zone. I can remember planting 125 tomatoe plants & 150 pepper plants. I had 5 rows of greens beans 75 cabbage plants. & the list goes on & on. Our garden was at least a half acre to 1 acre of land. I canned & processed everything back then. We still garden just smaller & have our beef & pork farm raised. What a difference that meat is so good. I was doing this before it was cool to do this. If this old Lady can give you & your hubby some advice. I would drill a well this year. You are to the point you really need access to good water. The sooner you get this done it will get you so much closer to THE DREAM. Then that is one more expense you can put behind you. I’m so glad our farmhouses always had wells our first was hand dug 65 feet deep. I did not like that water. Our farmhouse now has a GREAT WELL WITH GREAT TASTING WATER. I always have the water tested you never know what could have been dumped on the land. Our house was built in 1880, she is our forever home. You just know when you land something if it is right. GOD BLESS from West Central Indiana Farmland

I love your soil. I suggest to plant you scoot the wood chips aside then did your hole. It might prevent mixing soil and wood chips since wood chips can bind up nitrogen. Just a thought.

Isn’t it a wonderful time of year! I still have to wait 3 more weeks for my warm weather plants, but I have the cool weather plants in! This year my Tomatoes & peppers are smaller than they were last year at the same time…I don’t know what’s up with that….but hopefully they will be strong enough in three weeks.

Your garden is amazing!! On a different note- months ago you got black strap molasses in your azure order and said “we will be doing something fun with this. So of course I added some to my order as well lol So besides making rye bread, what on earth are we doing with it?!?!?! ❤❤❤

You say, "we are out here at our homestead property." How is it a "homestead," if you are not living there and haven't made it your home? Wouldn't it be better described as "land" or a property such as farm, ranch, or gardening plot?"

We call it what we want to call it, because it is our homestead. We garden there, keep bees, find solace, play in the woods and dream about our future living on it.
It's time to make (and ferment) some kimchi
