Wang Chung took its name from the Chinese term for the first note of the Chinese musical scale, though the bassist said that “it means whatever you want it to mean.” When the band interjected the phrase into the lyrics of its 1987 hit “Everybody Have Fun Tonight,” the lingo became Generation-X shorthand for a wild night out.

The soundtrack to "To Live and Die in LA" featuring Wang Chung has always been a favorite. The title track was a minor hit but the rest of it is just amazing. It would make a great workout album. Uh, no. Mid '70s, with Disco, was when everyone got up & danced again.....including older folks. 1980 was the Disco backlash. Dance music came back in '83 with Michael Jackson, Madonna, & British/Synth Pop. First half of '70s was when serious music was the thing, reflecting the chaotic times. Dancing took a backseat.
@ColoradoGrami2 жыл бұрын
@@donnabruhn6907 I was all at the discos so have not forgotten it. I would have been more accurate to say mid to late '60's. The hippies danced in the fields, not in the clubs. Disco brought that all back.

@@mowerdan8133 Point taken, and yes, I was there. I was having babies in the early '70s and as you pointed out the times affected music, and dancing, so in my head there was no dancing again until disco which began in the latter half of the '70's. @@ColoradoGrami I agree, music trends & cultural shifts tended to follow more of a straddling of decades. That "Happy Days" Rock & Roll era was actually late '50s/early '60s. The hippie/social relevance scene was late '60s/early '70s and so on.

Hi J & Amber. New to the channel, digging everything you guys do here. Wang Chung is pretty high on "the peak 80's" sound. I'd love to see what you both think of "One Thing Leads to Another" by The Fixx, it's got an undeniable hook/chorus and so lyrically apt to today's political media circus you'll think, "this was written in 1983??"
