The 80s were a golden decade for pop/rock and other genres as well. I was a record store manager from around 1982 to 1987 so I played a lot of music like this in my store. Always fun to see you two react to music I “grew up” to in the 60s, 70s & 80s. Love your channel on KZbin!

Wang Chung took its name from the Chinese term for the first note of the Chinese musical scale, though the bassist said that “it means whatever you want it to mean.” When the band interjected the phrase into the lyrics of its 1987 hit “Everybody Have Fun Tonight,” the lingo became Generation-X shorthand for a wild night out.

The soundtrack to "To Live and Die in LA" featuring Wang Chung has always been a favorite. The title track was a minor hit but the rest of it is just amazing. It would make a great workout album. You should watch the movie. The mid 80s movies about LA were really gritty. Even the comedies like "Beverly Hills Cop" we're about a gritty LA. Even a lot of the music was gritty.

Uh, no. Mid '70s, with Disco, was when everyone got up & danced again.....including older folks. 1980 was the Disco backlash. Dance music came back in '83 with Michael Jackson, Madonna, & British/Synth Pop. First half of '70s was when serious music was the thing, reflecting the chaotic times. Dancing took a backseat.

@@mowerdan8133 Point taken, and yes, I was there. I was having babies in the early '70s and as you pointed out the times affected music, and dancing, so in my head there was no dancing again until disco which began in the latter half of the '70's. So, when you get as old as I am the decades aren't so incrementally defined. Thank you for making my point for me. 🙂

@@ColoradoGrami I agree, music trends & cultural shifts tended to follow more of a straddling of decades. That "Happy Days" Rock & Roll era was actually late '50s/early '60s. The hippie/social relevance scene was late '60s/early '70s and so on.

The voice of the lead singer reminds me that you haven't really done much Sting yet (though you have done the Police). He has so many, it's hard to choose one to suggest. 'If you Love Someone, Set Them Free' is a great one, but a personal favorite is the moody 'Moon Over Bourbon Street.'

"Let's Go" by Wang Chung. Similar vibe as this song but better (in my opinion).

They didn't have video editing software in the 80s, so this video was likely spliced togeher frame by frame.

Ah Junior High school memories 😊 Our choir sang and performed a dance to this song and it was SO much fun! We had a giant freshman football player with a deep voice named Ron who did the “everybody have fun” part lol. RIP Ron ❤ Great reaction guys.

I grew up in the 80's and I really can't explain how we danced the songs!! haha We danced very separated from each other. Everybody remembers Wang Chung 🙂 I think the 80's were the best music decade, but the 70's were the best dancing era. Regards from Chile!!

We didn't have specific dance moves to songs in the 80's, that sort of ended in the 60's.

2:58 Animator here. You might be thinking of pixelation where humans are used to make stop-motion animation. This isn't that though because there's no animation happening. This is really just a bazillion jump cuts. LOL It looks cool though.

One song that would never fail to get me on the dance floor is "Make a Circuit with Me" by the Polecats. A neo-rockabilly band with modern flair in the early 80s. England's answer to the Stray Cats.

Hi J & Amber. New to the channel, digging everything you guys do here. Wang Chung is pretty high on "the peak 80's" sound. I'd love to see what you both think of "One Thing Leads to Another" by The Fixx, it's got an undeniable hook/chorus and so lyrically apt to today's political media circus you'll think, "this was written in 1983??" Peace, A new subscriber in Seattle
