This guitar is one of the most confusing buys I've made. It's great for the price point and I really enjoy it, but it came with some problems out of the box that really made the experience worse than expected. However it's here to stay!!

I had the same issue with the input jack on a double jet about a year ago.I took it back to exchange it and the other two same guitars had the same issue so I returned it. I recently got a G5232t and it is rock solid. No noise or any issues. I changed the spring to a Reverend spring.

Great review! I own one for a little more than 5 years and 100% agree with you. The first thing I did was to replace the pickup selector(it broke after a few months) and got a Switchcraft one. One thing I did to fix my tuning issues was setting the bridge posts to avoid them to rock back and forth, got a roller bridge, and replaced the Bigsby spring with a soft one. After doing that my tunning issues were gone, Bigsby feels like butter and the guitar plays like a dream. I don't use a lot the master volume pott bc I do have a volume pedal but that would be my next upgrade.

Thank you and thanks for sharing your knowledge on the guitar! From what I’ve seen the roller bridge fixes all the main issues the stock one has, do you remember which one you got? I’m not still sure about the soft spring, I am afraid of intonation when bending a string and playing an open one for example. Is that an issue?

@@TrailOfSound I got my roller bridge and my soft touch bigsby spring from Reverend Guitars. Zero intonation issues, however I play 9s strings and mostly P&W songs. Was worried about losing sustain due to the roller bridge but nothing that could be notable

Thanks for your reply! I think I will order a roller bridge really soon to replace the stock, and maybe a soft spring to try it out!

I put in locking tuners, brass roller bridge, new 4 wire filtertrons and push on/off volume pots to switch to single coil

Have the same guitar next to my Les Paul Custom, I must say ..in comparission to the Paula, it can competes in tone and pickups really respond well to ODs and distortions, I would wish more warmness at the neck pickup. And yes it has tunning issues, other than that its GREAT !!

Oddly mine has been fine. Only minor grip is that from the factory, the action is a little high. And maybe partly because of that, compared to some other guitars (like Fenders), the upper frets can feel just a little bit cramped on barre chords for me. But the electronics, switches and even tuning have been pretty solid. That said, mine was a B-stock, so I wonder if it got returned because of issues, and then the shop did some corrective work (like refinishing the nut, lubricating or whatever), but no roller bridge - though I might put one in at some point. I really like mine, sounds beautiful with BBD slapback delay, tremelo and a Surfybear spring reverb into a Vox AC30. Looks beautiful in white gold too, though I like the look of the dark green too.

I bought a G2555, (the double cut version of this) and have encountered the same issues. I fixed the input jack. Looking to replace the tuners soon. The switch noise isn’t an issue for me.

Mine needed: New tuning machines, the nut reworked, fret level, fret ends dressed, fret polish (they were horrible), new pickup selector, new bridge because the original was was sharp and uncomfortable. Incredible. The master volume pot had an awful taper so I replaced it. I also added a Briggs Fix to the Bigsby. It plays really nice now, but I had it in storage for a year and when I got it out the other day, it has really weak output. The storage unit was climate controlled and all that. I don't know what's going on with it. Just not impressed at all. The bones are good but the workmanship is really uneven and it has a lot of cheap parts on it. Cheap parts like you'd expect to get from random $200 instrument from Amazon or something.

Nice video. Unlucky. Bought one a year ago. Mostly fine, had it set up and roller bridge fitted. All common fixes/advice on the internet. Stays in tune perfectly. Only complaint was I had chipped paintwork where they drilled the screwhole for the finger board.

My Gretsch 5220 had some of the same problems unfortunately. input jack didn't grab the cable too tight ( easily fixable by bending the contact point inside) and the tone switch was having trouble making the correct contact to the bridge pickup. After some wiggling it seems mostly okay now, but I hope it stays. Another issue I have is that when I have some gain on my interface + plugins turning down the master volume doesn't actually cut the noise. Only when I turn down the tone and volume the noise goes down, and even then it doesn't seem properly grounded. Wondering if you have that issue as well because I can't find anything online. I love the feel of it though, and the sound is even better.

Oh so it wasn’t just a single incident with mine.. It’s a shame I think as a first experience with the guitar because after fixing these issues I’m also loving mine more and more as time passes!! As for the noise if I remember correctly mine didn’t have this, but I have changed the wiring to 1 vol 1 tone for a while now, so I’m not 100% sure..

If this helps I had Gretsch hollow body guitar that I used as my number one gigging guitar and that wasn't a problem. I used to play high energy blues pink with a two fuzz boxes a big muff and a crazy horse that gave that Neil Young sound and obv had a lot of feedback to keep under control but as soon as I roll the master it was silent. Really useful thing to have on a guitar if you ask me. Hope that helps know you were asking a couple of months ago.

Unfortunately, I haven't bought any case yet since I play exclusively in the studio. From what I've seen many use epiphone cases, specifically the Wildkat Cases..
