It's Hammer time. Repairing a selection of Bosch and Ryobi kango hammers

It always shocks me to hear people say they didn't know hammers like these worth repairing.
It's crazy to me that someone would dump an 800 euro Hammer simply because it stopped working or hammering.
9 times out of 10 hammers like this can be fixed up again for less than 100 euro.
In fact the most expensive of this lot was only 82euro.
Even a full strip and service on a big SDS MAX kango Hammer like these would be less than 200.
A new machine would cost 4 times that.
It's not unusual for me to get a 20 year old hammer in for its 3rd or 4th service.

Despite the fact that I hardly know one end of a screwdriver from the other, I can't stop watching these videos!! You popped up in my feed about a week ago and I can't tell you the number of hours I have lost, getting drawn deeper and deeper down this rabbit hole!! I particularly like these "long form" vids. As others have said, your intimate knowledge of these machines is immense. It is a testament to what must be years of experience dismantling and rebuilding all different types of drills, nail guns, grinders, jig saws and the rest! Without even plugging in or fitting a battery, I've seen you fiddle with a grinder or drill chuck and diagnose a problem. 9 times out of 10 you are correct! I fear that even at 60 years old, I might take up woodworking just so I can give some of these machines a try in person!! (And try to fix them when they inevitably break down 1 day after the warranty expires!! LOL!!)

Been watching for a while, just dawned on me beyond just enjoying the content that the knowledge, speed and efficiency that I'm watching is mastery of a craft that I hadn't ever really considered before. I'm only an occasional user of power tools but Mastery is Mastery no matter the craft. Brilliant content Dean. Cheers.

Love watching any repair videos, stumbled across you about a month ago. Binged all your videos within the week and now I'm a regular, feel myself starting to twitch when I've not had my daily Dean fix. Loving your dedication with these long videos, I actually get excited when I see one pop up. Learning a tonne, didn't even know how the mechanics of these power tools worked beforehand. Keep them coming Dean 👍

I'm also new to this channel - referred from a fellow engineer. I am also a lifetime repairer, in my case of television and electronic and electrical equipment. You cannot properly repair/service anything without a service manual or a circuit diagram or exploded mechanical diagram plus you have to be able to understand what you are looking at which requires years of experience. Dean clearly has all of the qualities required.

Boutique stuff that doesn't have a spot in the workplace unless you're trying to church it up for the customer. JK I've only ever used snap on air tools, and DeWalt/Milwaukee electric leaves snap on pneumatic looking like a joke. Their electric stuff would have to be damn fine to justify. I doubt it is.

@maxpulido I have snap-on electric drills and electric ratchet and impacts. I haven't had any problems with them yet. I have had them 3 years. But they dont see much work these days. My favorite, though, is an electric ratchet from MAC. I got in 2013. I used and abused the poor thing. It's so beat up, but it still works great. I bought 2 lipo batteries for it when I got it new. They have to have several 1000 cycles. used them daily for 8 years. Before i retired. They still work great. I love snap-on and Mac hand tools. But I have been curious how well they Stack up to other brands. You definitely pay a Premium. Just Curious are they worth it.

@mateuszQRDL
@mateuszQRDL 6 ай бұрын
The mating surfaces of the gears should be covered with grease that sloshes freely in that compartment. You don't want the con rod and the eccentric gear to have to work through that viscous fluid as some percent of power will have to be spent in that fight. You can lose power output and/or burn the motor.

The power tool brands keep which greases they use pretty secret but they'll all be available or have a direct equivalent but it's nigh on impossible to accurately identify the exact makeup of each one without either insider information or a mass spectrometer. Dewalt use a grease made by Fuchs called Renolit Paragon EP1/2, I know a Fuchs rep and he can't find any tech data sheets for it, he recons it's something they make (or label up) specially for Black and Decker group, It'll most likely be a synthetic base oil, lithium soap, EP bearing grease with high temp additives in a semi fluid weight.

@maxpulido
@maxpulido 7 ай бұрын
For the money I think so. In the past they were really quite nice. I think easily up there with Bosch or DeWalt. Now they're not as good, but the line-up has expanded so much, and Ryobi has stood behind their batteries so strongly, that it doesn't matter.
