EXACTLY. Black knee pads or little details like that make a force look unique - it’s the little bits and pieces like that which make it yours. And you can argue back, about how it’s replacement armour for damaged components that haven’t been finished up to standard by the serfs (they’re trapped on a hellworld with no resupply, so it fits the theme nicely!) and it’s also thematic when you consider the existence of the death company… these guys are at the end of the wire, and maybe the black armour components are a subtle foreshadowing of what could happen to any of them at any moment? I think stuff like that is cool. And for real life arguments… I paid for the damned things; I’ll paint them how I want! 😂 Nice work!

Great video, love the scheme, subscribed. I second the thought that some death company would be cool. Since they're out of contact from supply lines/the main imperium I bet there's cool conversions that could be done to tell the story of individual marines from various squads that feel to the black rage but without access to all the death-company-specific gear that the main chapter gives them. Looking forward to seeing what you do next!

Thanks so much. It’s a white base coat first and then thinned down Vallejo fluorescent green over the top. Simple but I think they look cool.

Ultimately, you should use a scheme you enjoy. But if you are looking for a character unit to fit with a jump-pack style, i think Dante is a good model. I'm a dark angels player myself so i dont know the blood angel units. Every time i see Dante on "40k in 40 seconds" it looks like he has a jump pack. My marines have their paint job inspired by Spyro the Dragon because i loved that trilogy growing up. My good sir, you have earned a subscriber.

It's why I just take models that I find fun to use rather than "the best" because it's a bunch more fun to play to a theme as long as both players are having fun. Half my current dark angels army is characters just because I wanted to get all the important guys before most of the infantry, lol.

Make sure to throw in some Gravis dudes other than just the inceptors! ESPECIALLY the captain - Gravis suits are so damn cool, especially as a group. If you've got one, you could even throw in a Biologis for funsies.

Haha sorry about that. For me the key points are to use a small piece, use tweezers to hold the foam and angle it a little so I’m pretty much using one corner area of the sponge. Let me know if that helps!

Hey thanks so much Jason. Yep on my PC editing I increased the contrast and it looked slick but I realize now watching on my phone etc that it’s too dark. Blood Angels were always one of my favourite Loyalist :-) Have you ever done Salamanders by any chance? I am doing a mini project just one mini from diffreant creators (3d prints) one is a Salamanders Chaplain (lots of scales), one is an Emperors Children dualist champion and the last one is a Genestealer Cultist.

Yeah it took me a couple of attempts to get my head around it as well. You could try smaller piece of foam or even switching to brush to help force you into thinking small. 🙂 good luck!

@@flashingbadgerpainting it's weird they made the new apothecary unit that specifically is a unit buffer. No healing. Just a gravis armor field autopsy dude who can only lead the 3 other non-flying gravis armor units. Aggressors, eradicators, and heavy intercessors. I guess the lethal hits makes them viable enough to get the melee kill for the OC 9 but only one of those models even had a special melee weapon profile in the first place

Yeah I’m excited to paint the model but I’ll need to give some thought on how it will fit in with my army. Maybe I build some aggressors or maybe I proxy him as a primaris apothecary for now 🤔

How thin were you going with your paints to avoid excessive texturing chap?

Hey, I thinned them down the same as though I was painting them regularly. So for a GW base paint for example it was probably one third water at a guess. Hope that helps.

These are pieces of foam like from the minis carry trays. You can also get them in the back of things like minis blister packs. This one is just green because I had some left over from a pluck foam kit from KR Multicase

Honestly, I am not a fan of traditional schemes for army's. For my blood angels, I went with a grim dark sable knight color scheme, Death Company is the same as there regularly are, and chaplains are painted the same way. Dante and the sanguinary guard are colored a grim dark knights of blood style.

Frustrating for sure but I think sponsors and ads are a necessary component for channels to survive and overpriced figurines, sure I get you, it's a small amount of plastic. Everyone is different but I'm paying the $50 or so for 1-2 weeks relaxing hobby time as I sit and paint them. Not for everyone AND if someone's keen but they don't want to waster the money, well they get to kick back and watch my dorky little videos for free. 👍

😏 if you are doing a bit then this is on point! 🙂 if not, you’re correct and as I mention in the video I made the conscious decision to step outside the lore for a couple of reasons that are important to me; - how I want the models to look because I’m going to paint them for a year and play them forever - how I enjoy stepping outside of the lore to create my own story to make this particular army look unique and feel special to me. I understand that sticking 100% to lore is important to part of the community, but these points above are important to me and my journey. 🙂
