Bro that army looks sick af. I'm just getting back into 40k after 20 years and taking my first steps at painting. I played Blood Angels back in the day so your videos are a huge help and inspiration. I'm in love with the Blade Guard models and have already been thinking about painting them in Death Company colours. I think it could also work with your lore: As more and more brothers fall to the black rage, they get to keep their gear and armour, both out of nessecity and to honour them. It's a bit tricky rule wise, but if your group is cool with it, just run them as death company intercessors. Alternative background for the same colour scheme: They are regular blade guard but these veterans have painted their armour in the colours of their fallen brothers to honour their deaths and to reflect how dire their situation is.
@flashingbadgerpainting11 сағат бұрын
That’s an awesome idea and they will look so good in those colours. Welcome back to the hobby mate. I was in the exact same boat. Collected BA as a kid and now find myself returning to the hobby and loving it. There will be more BA videos on the way but if you find yourself wanting to bounce ideas off anyone or just to show off what you’ve been painting, you’re welcome to check out our discord where the rest of us hang out. discord.gg/aNSsEshQ

My BA Assault Intercessors are super weathered, all sorts of drilled holes and cuts, and I just used a wraithbone white base coat over everything, went over that with relatively diluted mephiston red as to have intentionally splotchy coverage to appear like more or less weathered regions on the armour fields, then j went over that with abbadon black wash to darken the recessed, and then blood angels red over the whole thing to bring the whites and reds together, Then a thondia brown wash over the legs , and then a dry brushing of stormhost silver on the edges
@flashingbadgerpaintingКүн бұрын
Awesome! Thanks for sharing the recipe as well for others that are looking for some cool ways to achieve their weathered marines as well 👍

That looks really good. Just a tip from a random guy (me) that probably doesn't matter, but... the half of his face that has less chaos glow shining on it kinda looks like you over thought it and made it a bit too complex. As an artist one of the most difficult things to be able to do is k owing when to realize that putting in more work doesn't always mean it's going to look better as well as being able to know when to put down the brush and stop adding more. These two things are probably the most common issues that I see people doing. It took me years in art school and then a couple years as a graphic designer to truly comprehend and stop doing these things. However the chaos lighting it's self looks so rad. Then the contrast of the green eyes is really cool. I think I'm going to sculpt a perturabo bust.

Hey Doug, mate thanks so much for taking the time to pass on the advice to me and the others that are scrolling down. I have heaps to learn but I’m like a sponge trying to take it all in so I really do appreciate the feedback. This was my first model with flesh at a scale larger than 28mm so yeah I reckon I was intimidated then overthought it. Appreciate you helping to point me in the right direction 😎🤌

@flashingbadgerpainting6 күн бұрын
haha yep I figured my time was running out! Yeah I like it. You don't have much control on how it will look BUT it is a cool looking rust. So on something like this I'm happy to combine it with the other techniques. It's not a popular video of mine (but what is? 🤣) but I have a video where I compare Dirty Down Rust to weathering powders on pieces of terrain. If you want to see more up close detail on the comparison.

How do you paint the model fully built it seems so tedious to me
@flashingbadgerpainting10 күн бұрын
You mean that you prefer to paint it in individual parts before any assembly? I look at usually what is most time efficient. So here the model is in 3 parts so I can reach into places easily that would otherwise be harder to reach. But having the model in all 20 separate pieces means I’ll paint a lot of areas that are otherwise not really visible once assembled.
