This title really capsulate The Subnautica Experience. This is why we didn't want you to look up any guides. Learning the story thru only the enviroment and PDA's, was a brillant move for this game, and the dev did a good job of not holding your hand too much. This combo is why I think exploration feels so rewarding

They were clearly inspired by System Shock 2. But the voice logs in SS2 made a lot more sense (i.e., they were nearly all things that people _would_ have recorded). I'd say about 30% of the ones in Subnautica (and 100% of the ones in the horrible "sequel", Below Zero) are just random bits of conversations that no one would have had any reason to record, let alone leave lying around.

Missing the sunbeam was a bummer... Not disappoited, but this is the price for a blind playthrough. At least you were able to catch the "Oh I missed the landing site" cinematic from the surface, unlike missing it while indoors or deep underwater just seeing the dialogue and nothing more. Also, try making those beacons! They can mark the entrance to important areas, unique caves, unexplored wrecks etc. *And the prawn needs another upgrade before mining ores, the hands can smash ore shells, punch fish and pick up stuff. But every other upgrade is way better than the basic hand.

18:00 The unextinguishable fire there is to stop people from not advancing the way the devs intended. We used to just put that fire out and parkour over the barricade, rather than actually making a repulsion cannon for solving the puzzle. I was sad when they did that, it was a fun way to avoid having to backtrack. So yes, blame people like me for your death. That fire used to go out. 😅

As you may have noticed (or not?) from the on-screen pop-ups, the Prawn Suit lets you harvest materials _without leaving the suit_ (they're grabbed by the arms and placed into the built-in storage). And yeah, I agree it would be nice if there was some way to carry the Prawn Suit itself. But there totally isn't. No sir. Don't even bother looking. 🧐

Francis, build the beacons you got the blueprint in this episode and place them everywhere. You will get more and more lost, and forget many places you would like to go back later, but the beacons will help you remember where they are.

I've never played Subnautica, but I've played Terraria and Starbound, and am also quite familiar with Minecraft, and I'd presume that these beacons, along with text on/near them to indicate what they're there for, would be quite useful for keeping oneself from getting lost. (That, and perhaps plenty of cheap spammable light sources, or other decoratives, that can be placed within the environment, much like Torches from Minecraft, Terraria, or Starbound, for marking off places that you've already been to within, say, a cave system or dungeon.)

You don't really need beacons, at least for anything that isn't in a cave system. All you need is to select _one_ reference point (ex., your starting pod, or your main base) and look at its heading and distance in your HUD (ex., "243m SSW or the pod"). That gives you a 2D approximation that's usually good enough. If you want proper coordinates with depth, use 3 beacons near the surface, preferably far apart, and triangulate. No need to clutter your UI or spend ages sorting through the beacon list. They're useful to mark some hard-to-spot cave entrances, story areas, etc., but placing beacons everywhere just ends up being confusing. P.S. - Note that the pod doesn't always start in the same place, so coordinates based on the pod won't be accurate between different playthroughs.

Important things: You can pick up stuff with prawn suit arm so you dont have to get out to pick it You need to go look for the exploded ship, missing what happened was very traumatising from the point of the viewer It would be good to build the vehicle bay since you got the blueprint You can hang posters in the base

he sorta half-saw it! But yeah preoccupation with getting every scrap of everything is gonna screw you over in subnautica. Take a few minutes off-screen to look over your blueprints and see what you need to build the things you don't have, gather those and don't worry about picking up everything. if you can grow it, throw it in a planter and let it grow and never bother picking up gel sacs again, you'll never need more than a single planter full of them.

Exploring is a big joy of Subnautica. You have the deployable nav beacons, you can use those to mark or outline biomes or areas of interest, remote base locations, note distant wrecks and exploration status, or other important spots.

Honestly, he may never figure it out (barring spoilers). 50-50 that this playthrough stalls in 1 or 2 more episodes because he has no reason to explore in the right direction than any other direction and the radio messages will eventually be exhausted.

Can you imagine unlocking prawn suite before having a moonpool? Lol also the prawn is the best vehicle by far, there is a grappling hook thing that makes it the fastest vehicle in the game. Also notice the crush depth for it.

Keep an eye out for arms to scan for the prawn. You need one of these to access those big resources you're talking about. There's a few but the grapple is pretty good for getting around. Moonpool is for Seamoth and Prawn docking. It uses your base power to recharge them too so you don't need to take the power cells out.

The repulsion cannon is obtained through the modification station. If I recall, he overlooked the recipe at least 20 times in the Aurora while dying in that fire.

I would explore the purple cave a bit more. The two segments you found were not the Degasi base. And you should try the flashlight. It’s much better than the seaglide‘s light. And you may consider to use beacons for navigation. They will help you to navigate.

NEVER ever use the flash light: extra inventory slot, extra battery you need, slows you down. Seaglide has light, has MAP, 2 in one, makes you faster

@@krisztiankohut3241 you do you dude, play the game the way you want it, but for my way of playing it i prefer seaglide, and here's why: SPEED is crucial in this game, and seaglide nullifies all the penalties related to char drag weight = RDS + UHC have no effect. Tell me how that bright ball of light in your hands will help you when you have 30s O2 left in the mid of huge wreck? Besides, seaglide light has longer range - works more like beam, and again, that's what i prefer. Slow exploration? Some people like it, but i'm the one who has fully functional starter base with MP rooms, bio and WF before Aurora explodes, in 2 hrs - depth maxed seamoth, and in 3 hrs i slingshot to ion bats tech - and that's where the fun starts. For all this I need SPEED. WHY slow down if i have proper eyesight and pay attention to scanner prompt in the right corner? I cleared that huge underwater island wreck in less than 7 mins, built scanner room to check - and I saw exactly ZERO fragments and data boxes left inside. As for acid mushrooms - make that growbed already, and stop running around collecting them, really. Besides, until fish tank this IS great fuel for bio, but i bet you guys keep using lanterns and love restocking your bio every 15 mins...

Francis, for your own safety, please learn how to use a fire extinguisher. You don't blow puffs of stuff on the fire, you douse the flames by spraying continuous stuff at it, particularly at the base of the fire, because the actual fuel is on the bottom. I know it's a video game, but this mechanic is actually kind of realistic. The fires don't go out if you puff at them; they need to be dowsed.

Moonpools are maintenance and recharge for the _smaller_ ships, like the seamoth and prawn, not the bigger stuff. Definitely recommend building them here and there around the map.

Some QOL tips: -you can put items on your hotbar by hovering over them and pressing 1-5 -when you die, you drop stuff you can pick up later. That's the pile you found in tge Aurora fire -you can add multiple cargo modules on your seamoth (and it's extra efficient on the Prawn) -you still missed some stuff in the Aurora and jellyshroom caves -remember to check on the sunbeam

Metagaming is not really optimal here. Trying to always guess what's the intention of the creators of the game is seriously detrimental for your experience. Missing the Sunbeam is a great example of that. Engaging the story in this game is a much better experience than just focusing on the mechanics. You will miss most of the important story beats.

Here is my non-spoilery advice. Feel free to ignore. The Sunbeam meeting was actually a way for the game to direct you to a certain plot oriented location. You can still get to that location by looking for the big weird looking clouds when above the surface, head toward the cloud away from the Aurora rendezvous point. Also, you might like the space in the large room, its expensive but worth it. The moonpool is also a must have, the vehicle upgrade console has to be built INSIDE the moonpool, that caused me a little bit of confusion in my own playthrough. Reinforcement, applied to the walls of the multipurpose and large rooms, is also extremely powerful and has allowed me to build oversized bases with windows in the deepest portion of the map.

Tips: the Reginald is the best fish for energy/space on the bio reactor. Explore the deep cave near the pod again now that you can go deeper. You missed some stuff. The moonpool lets you recharge and, with the vehicle upgrade station, make upgrades for your seamoth/prawn. It does not let you build vehicles

Incorrect, the best bioreactor fish is oculus, followed by peeper, the larger fish variants may give more, but they are 2x2 in size.

I saw you pop out of the seamoth and say "I've been meaning to do this" and was super excited to see you finally deploy a beacon.... then you just repair the seamoth... The Jellyshoom cave is unique and an opportunity to figure out a couple new mechanics you need in the later game. The game is pretty big and their are lots of opportunities to miss critical stuff, beacons help a ton in pathfinding once you run out of lifepods.

You missed a seamoth upgrade in the seamoth bay. It's on a terminal on the left side of the room, half-inserted into a socket, between the bay 1 and bay 2 signs. It's semi-difficult to get early on due to the blueprints required to craft the upgrade, but you might have already played beyond needing it. EDIT: Nevermind, you apparently found it.

Francis, - This is brilliant - Sierra and I have watched most of your ONI Content, Some X4 and other things - After watching this, Sierra bought me a copy and I am having a real Blast! - This style without any research is just so cool forcing you to rely on instinct, wit and reaction and never knowing what to expect. Obviously I don't want to give anything away - I am behind on missions but ahead on Vehicles and upgrades - and I just found out that some people just play this for the base building as it's a game in itself. I just found I had a sonar upgrade blueprint for the seamoth and went wild pinging everything to death it was so cool. Thanks again for such amazing content.

Sad that you missed the Sunbeam landing point, very important story info there, it's an island to the north, hidden behind the darker clouds on the horizon. The Prawn suit is a serious upgrade on the Seamoth, as it's much more resistant to damage, and it has a grapple arm attachment, that shoots out and attaches to the seabed or walls, and with some practice, can transport you along at ridiculous speeds, rather like a monkey swinging through the trees, it's also mandatory for exploration to get you in and out of certain caves, as it can go much, much deeper than the Seamoth. There is also a mining drill attachment, for mining the deposits. The booster upgrade is also a requirement for later. Some of these attachments can be scanned at a nearby wreck that you have not yet found. Hint, it's in a nearby ravine. :) The moonpool will recharge the Prawn/Seamoth when they are docked, to dock in the moonpool simply drive underneath and gently nudge up, the moonpool will automatically "grab" the vehicle and dock it, depositing you to the side. The vehicle upgrade station has to be built in the inside wall of the moonpool, allowing you to customise the name, colours etc of the vehicle docked. Beds allow you to sleep through the night, if you prefer to explore during the day. The moonpool can be a bit fiddly to attach to the base, as it's quite large, but you can rotate any building with the scroll wheel before confirming construction. It was honestly quite painful seeing you leave items behind, as your inventory was full of food, water, and health kits, whilst you were at half health, food and water. lol The holdalls are a waste of space, they take up 6 slots in your inventory, whilst only holding 6 items, so, completely pointless. You missed a couple of scannable objects on the Aurora, one whilst climbing on the pile of small boxes, you ignored the large boxes in the room, it can also be found elsewhere, but you do have to go back anyway at some point, for the black box data which involves swimming through the pipes underwater in the Prawn Bay, and the Captain's cabin.

Also not sure if this is advice everyone gives, but I always found it helpful to make sure I have at least one seed of the plant that makes air bubbles when I explore. Saved my butt when I was too deep and my Cyclops and stored batteries all died at once - made an exterior planter with the air plant seed and used that to daisy-chain more planters with air all the way back to the surface.

Lanterm fruit is, quite frankly, obscenely OP. shit literally never runs out and planting 4 to 8 of them can give the player enpugh fruit to literally max out their hunger and water, and by the time they need to replenish the trees would have regrown all of it.

@@pokemonfanmario7694 Did you know, if you overeat you can keep the extra hunger, essentially overstacking yourself only happens if you eat at lower than 100 hunger. You just have to eat a really nutritious food go get a reginald +44, and you get extra 20 minutes when you dont have to eat at all. best case scenario 4 minutes of extra hunger, but sadly if you eat after overeating, you get reset to 100 hunger, and you need to eat 34 lantern fruits to get hydrated, you will get reset effectively losing time. and the cant even last if you want to go out.

Awesome progress. A few more suggestions without spoiling too much. There is a tree on the rendezvous island called bulb tree. The fruit from that tree is probably the best food in the game, giving you plenty of both food and water points. Pretty sure you missed at least one prawn upgrade in one of the wrecks, you even said something about it, but then missed it with the scanner and never came back to it. Lets just say prawn is a lot more useful once it is upgraded. You should absolutely explore more of the purple mushroom cave, there is a lot more stuff there. And the place where rescue was going to land should be in your nav points somewhere.

Francis, I highly advise you to keep your ship's health above 70 as there are ways for it to instantly drop by 40-60 per hit. Also remember that tree with red fruit you saw back at the island? those trees produce fruits without having to replant the tree and makes for great biofuel.

you can make lightorch instead of seaglide - it takes less place and you swim in seamoth anyways. less space taken = more inventory for stuff! . remember that lantern tree which you spot on degassi crew island habitat? Thats EXCELLENT bio reactor fuel :> Plop indoor growbed near reactor, plant tree. profit. And seamoth should recharge if it's parked on surface i think. Or maybe in moonpool? 1:17:46 it is not dumb. You'll see in the future why :P
