The exploration aspect of this game is amazing. Every biome feels so different and the sound scape keeps you on edge all the time. Will have to go after the leviathans again, but maybe after we have secured all the map fragments/blueprints.

The defense perimeter has an amazing feature. Variable output. The longer you hold the button the bigger the charge. It can kill a reaper in a couple pops at full charge... Main lesson, losing you torpedo launchers was a net plus. Also, reapers relocate with each assault. They will relocate anywhere, so don't coral them near your base or other important locations.

It's honestly amazing how you have almost every blueprint already and barely touched several biomes. I think I got the dunes "are you certain" warning within 2-3h of playing. Do keep in mind that you'll start finding A LOT of duplicates if you don't delve into the deeper and more dangerous places, so while entertaining this scanner room grid tomfoolery will likely waste a lot of time finding titanium if you keep to the 0-300m depth

Yep, exactly so: I'm currently doing my 9th or 10th run, exploring ALL the wrecks on the map, and last ones are pretty much empty since I have 99% of blueprints already in PDA. As a veteran I'd say you should scan for WRECKS, not fragments at this point, since 95% of stuff you'll get you already know, at least above 300m depth

Since this series started I bought and yesterday finished the game. Inspired by Francis I tried to do some some scanning, but I was more casual about it - I basically put a scanner near every lifepod ~1km away from center of the map and each other, I think it was 5 in total including the 500m Degasi habitat. All upgraded with range so they covered a decent chunk of the map. I didn't find a single new fragment or blueprint. Not one. All it got me was like 10 Titanium Ingots.

For your grid system, the beacon distances you're seeing are the 3D hypotenuses. For this reason, I put my coordinate beacons at the ocean surface to stay true to Cartesian measurements. Then, I build my scanners directly beneath each beacon at the sea floor. That is if you care at all. 😅

I mean, 2 lockers in the Cyclops, 1 filled with fully charged and 1 for the empties. You'll only need to visit a solar powered base every once in a great while to charge batteries, or have the supplies in your cyclops to build a base wherever to charge them. Plus a bed will pass time quickly if you didn't build it near stuff you wanted to explore.

You weren't "missing" with the defense perimeter, there is not directional aspect to it. You "missed" because the reaper was already in the grabbing animation by the time you popped. You can charge it for a bigger blast and longer reach at the cost of a bigger battery drain. Otherwise a quick zap when you're in the grab (the reaper screaming in your face while grabbed) will get it to let go early.

Okay Francis, it looks like now Revenge is a matter of honor, so a few hunting... or should I say killing? tips: -- Stasis is your best friend with very little (if any) alternatives: it will LOCK the shrimp in place for a while. Read the description in PDA first, and test it on smaller (and safer) fauna! -- Bad or good luck, but it is what it is, Thermoblade IS the most effective and reliable way to kill stuff, your big friend needs only 2-2.5 mins of slicing to chop it into finest sushi -- Never tried torpedoes since (as you already learned) they're okay in all respects but one: accuracy. When your target is locked though - may be an option. Again, never tried it on my own, prefer Thermoblade -- Hunting in darkness is a great disadvantage for you, but not for the shrimp: it uses echolocation, that is, when you hear it - it SEES you -- Scanner room may SCAN for reapers (and other BIG fauna), that may help in murky waters Happy hunting!.. GO show that oversized fish who's on top of the food chain

Quick look online, gas torpedos do ~500 damage over about ~13 seconds, so if you stasis a reaper in place, ten gas torpedos should kill it dead (5000hp). Actually seems like an effective strategy for ridding yourself of reapers.

The surest way to kill stuff in this game is Prawn Suit drill arms or Stasis Rifle + Thermoblade. Gas torpedoes do little to no damage.

The square shaped "teleport thingy" you saw out of the corner of your eye is actually a wreckage piece. When the game chunks load, the lighting renders first, then the shell of the wreckage pieces. It's a telltale sign to follow.

Fragments are scattered by biome, so it looks like you've got all the grassy shallows stuff for example but probably have almost none from the dunes west of your lifepod, the blood kelp area, the areas under the floating islands, or the mountainous area around the Quarantine Enforcement Platform. And yes, the beds let you sleep. Useful to skip the dark nights when you're near the surface.

for taking out large leviathans, your best bet is the stasis cannon. A fully charged shot locks them up for like a good 10 seconds, allowing you tho scan them in peace or knife them to death if you prefer that path. the torpedoes are meant as deterants (stink gas or gravity trp) none of the torps are lethal IIRC.

The Cyclops Thermal Reactor is a really useful upgrade in some very specific circumstances. The water has be very hot (>30 C), so there's really only one biome where it's useful. That said, it's extremely handy in that one biome, for reasons that will become clearer once you reach it. You're very fortunate to have found it just randomly. I had to go looking for it specifically.

30С is NOT very hot like at all, there are numerous spots above 100C (where thermals go BRRRRRR), and thermal vents + "smockers" are all around the map. They may be not as effective as deeper hot stuff, but who cares? park above the one and go to bed, wake up and have bats fully charged

There are 3 copies of the Cyclops Thermal Plant blueprint on the map. That's relatively scarce compared to the dozens of fragments for most other parts. They're rare enough that I think you have to use scanner rooms looking for databanks to find them. Which is FJ's plan, but he managed to find the blueprint before setting up the scanners.

The thermal reactor works with any heat source, you can part the cyclopes above a thermal vent and it'll charge.

True, you can charge at any heat plume, but that's not an important feature. Somewhat convenient, but not really game changing. It IS a big deal later in the game. I'm actually doing that part right now, since I'm re-playing the game. It's absolutely huge in that one section. You get enough energy so you can Run Silent constantly, and you don't have to worry about the energy cost of [redacted]. In contrast, doing the same stuff without the generator ate about 80% of my power reserves. Which is why I got the upgrade before going back.

The grapple arm and drill arm are the best pieces of equipment you can get for the prawn suit. Enabling large amounts of resource gathering, good movement options, and a fairly good way to deter predators. I mean if i took a sharp diamond cased drill to the face i would be lucky if i was still alive afterward. Also regarding nickle, the majority of the nickle is in the large node varient of the resource. so getting the drill arm before going deeper was a good move on your part.

All you need is scanner room inside LR, and in 2-3 mins you'll have all the nickel ore you need to build everything w/o need to drill - cave walls are covered in nickel chunks

56:25 The Seamoth perimeter defense system is an AOE not a directional field. The longer you charge it the larger the shock field is and the more damage it does. A full charge can 1 hit small fish.

You can kill a leviatan but not with torpedos, always check those giant crabs legs, they expose rare resources while they walk but if you don't grab them they dissapear, the nickel can be found on small quantities in the cave with the green corrosive rivers but the blue crystal is a very late game resource and need to go way deeper, i think you can upgrade the prawn thrusters in the moonpool or in the upgrade table it massively upgrades prawn movility.

Don't forget to check the waypoints the game has given you. I'm pretty sure there's one or two you haven't been to yet. I think you're still missing the PDA that can be found at the Degasi base around 250m. SPOILER: . And he found it on his own but got distracted by the Warper.

the sonar upgrade for the seamoth/cyclops is useful because biomes get darker later on, and it also highlights fauna so you'll see leviathans further than the drawing distance

FYI, with the seaglide you can reach the surface from a couple 100 meters easy. 500 on 1 tank is np. With an extra tank all the way from the deep caves. Running out of power isn't really a death sentence. Even if the cyclops gets destroyed, all buildings remain, just have to go get them ;)

Finally time for some prawn suit spiderman-driller time. For deeper areas (like the green stuff cave) bring the cyclops, but be careful as you'll have to fix it from the OUTSIDE. Lastly, you've got almost all important blueprints (just need the reinforced diving suit and nuclear reactor, the rest are optional/not that useful/decorations) *Nuclear power plant well, produces a lot of power using the urinite ore, but a bioreactor still works wonders. *The reinforced suit lets you dive in hotter areas, 100% needed for building near thermal vents... or bring a ton of medkits. *diving straight into lava and the thermal vent blast still kills you btw. These blueprints can be found on wrecks but in deeper areas (not inside caves clearly) places just like where you found the drill arm as an example.

Ok Francis, now that you have gotten a good ways into the game, I think it's safe for me to give a few real tips. First, the minisub shock defense IS radial, but it's also a hold to charge deal, increasing RANGE and DAMAGE. Second, IMO you are missing a key tech for dealing with the more dangerous creatures, torpedoes are pretty useless AFAIK, though the magnetite ones are funny. Third, big wrecks are what you want, and you can find at least one per biome, though I think you already have all the strictly needed tech to finish the game if you so choose. Fourth, the "dead zone" is map edge, DW about it. Fifth, the PRAWN grapple is the 'BEST' way to travel, but also the most challenging, it's much harder to be spider man in a mech. PS, the scanner network is overkill, but exactly the Francis kind of overkill, and has a chance to be actually useful. LASTLY I CHALLENGE YOU TO SCAN ALL LEVIATHANS! It's not nearly as insane a challenge as it sounds, and pretty fun IMO, just do it before end game.

Re Cyclops Power Cells. If you use the efficiency module, you can run a power cell charger inside the Cyclops and the sub will drain power slower than the charger charges the dead cells. Since cells drain 1 at a time, you never have to worry about Cyclops power after that.

Whilst the network of scanner rooms was an interesting side project, it's totally unnecessary, especiall now that you have found a couple of cave entrances to deeper areas, as the rare resources are deeper, not further out. Unless you intend to find all 26 of the reapers, of course, who are only situated in the surface biomes. The Prawn Suit with a drill arm and grapple arm will get you far more of the basic resources, closer to your base, as you can now mine the deposits. Metal salvage will still be your go to for titanium, as it does respawn. The wreck that you discovered in the Blood Kelp area is very close to 2 entrances to the Lost River biome (the green river), one of which is guarded by the Juvenile Ghost Leviathan (blue worm), whilst the other entrance is safer. Whilst the Seamoth is a very fast and nimble scout vehicle, it is limited to 900 meters depth, whilst the Cyclops and Prawn Suit can go much deeper. You missed a pda in the degassi base in the purple mushroom cave, which gives the location of the object of interest in the "large titanium structure detected" message that you received. The Crab Squid (giant head) are very dangerous to the Seamoth, as they can destroy it faster than a reaper does, and are very agressive towards light sources. So, time to dig out the stasis rifle, which has little effect on the warpers, unfortunately, as they can just warp away, even while "frozen".

leviathans are not a big deal once you figure them out and the OMG factor is removed. I use my radar room to track the leviathans so they show up all the time.

The power cells in the Cyclops are used one at a time so by the time two of them are depleted, you'll still have 4 left at 100%. This should make their replacement and recharging easier to manage. You can also store extra power cells in the lockers on the bottom of the Cyclops as well which will give you a longer range before needing to recharge.

Pods need to be ~700m apart on a grid. On the angle @45 degrees needs to be the 1000m apart. Pythagorean right triangle. You need c squared.

Something that you might want to know/mess with now that you are going to explore is the Prawn suit. You unlocked a most of the stuff you need already without having used it, but with some practice the Prawn suit is actually the fastest moving vehicle in the game if you get the hang of using the add ons for it properly.

I placed a cell charger inside the Cyclops while exploring. No clue if it was smart or if I had the thermal charger you found. Also nice to see that I'm not the only one who lost a Moth. I numbered mine and never went to double digits. I wish I could delete my memory about the game so I could relive it again

yeah they patched the cyclops cell charger. what you take out is what you put in, and the thermal module won't be a thing until he access the lava zone

@Mostlyharmless1985 it is, but it's also legitimate concern. So its kinda a catch 22: If he feels like he can't charge it and rely on it as a base of operations, he won't use it. And if he won't use it, he won't see that he can rely on it as a base of operations, and the charging is a non-issue. That's why I hope with that thermal reactor, it'll motivate FJ to actually use the cyclops and break that catch 22 nonsense.

you should have gone with hexagonal setup AND used equilateral triangles also, for most places you will want to just make a "scanner base", find everything of interest and then disassemble-move it another thing (form 52:30 .. ish) - drop a beacon when you find something interesting (I tend to name them "POI"), it's not like you are short on beacons 55:30 , nevermind, you did drop a beacon 01:11:30 build the storage lockers on the bottom floor of the cyclops (there is space for two-stack wall lockers in the "storage room")

No, it's not just you, in my experience there's 3 reactions to reapers, indifference(rare), bad jump scare levels of of fear, and "I'm never touching this game again" fear. You are part of the majority AFAIK, but you can acclimate to it, and eventually you will have no issues swimming with reapers. Remember, it's just a game in the end.

Just as a heads up since I've not seen any other comments on it, the Gas Torpedoes aren't the only way to employ gas warfare. Try dropping the gas pods out of your inventory in front of you and see what happens :) You should be able to extrapolate the rest yourself ;)

The Prawn suit is hands down the best way to exterminate leviathans. Be sure to get a grappling hook and thruster upgrade in case they throw you off the map.

I highly recommend doing larger exploration expeditions in the cyclops because it us literally a mobile base, and you can carry a smaller craft within it if you need to get in tight spaces

Some of those “teleports” you see aren’t teleports. They’re massive scrap locations, usually has important info or items. The graphics kinda glitch... I think the lightening/power cables that spark load faster than the ship, so you see sparks. Mainly talking about 21:40.
