I think binding the scale of responsibility means that certain ranks will hold responsibility that is relevant to that rank i.e and infantry private will be responsible for his SA80 where as a platoon commander will be responsible for the soldiers under his command. However the issue is if you are trying to 'flatten' the hierarchy you will tie the hands of tactical level leadership to do what is necessary to win in camp and on the battlefield. Ranks will be seen as a cereal box indicator of time served rather than being representation of competence and authority.

"Civ div" has just posted and he's back in the Ukraine for the 4th time despite always getting Pneumonia every time he's there. He wants the comradeship of his fellow fighters who he knows he can trust and who trust him in difficult and stressful dangerous situations at the front. This is what counts at the end of the day, and I'd like to think our training of our military reflects this above all else for the day the shit hits the fan. After all that's what they are there for isn't it ? Not to tick boxes and extol the virtues of a has been politician over the rich history of military achievements made by many, some of whom died doing so.

We're soon to be also worried about firing guns, rockets and missiles and using loud vehicles and aircraft because they make hurty bang noises .

This is tragic, that pilot could have gone on to have a life in politics, his willingness to betray his fellow countrymen for fourty pieces of silver could have seen him make it to the top of the shit heap.
