Dark Souls was a game that saved my high school final exams. I got some shitty topic about mansions in books, but I had only two. So the Professor wrote something on three pieces of paper, I choose one and gambled death in culture media. I was talking about Dark Souls. How real death in man life is not dying. But lack of purpose, abandonment of our goals and people we live for is a true death. When we are forgotten by others. They just sad there stunned by what I said, but said nothing. I won this gamble but I meet the sane profesor who gave me second chance on the same day. He asked me why I talked about a video game. I almost let tears drop when I remembered rage on this game. Impatience to deliver next strike. And quitting before huge challange before me. But in life you cannot just "quit". I had a shit and fucked up life in my early years. At the same time I remembered how Lorentius didn't wanted Chosen One to go hollow, Adre the same. How our Onion knight's were always happy to see us. I learned to value a few, true friends I have, to cherish a moment, to move forward no matter what and teach the same lesson to others that need help. World is a bad place but we don't have to go alone. We're together in this and from this moment. After the exams that I passed, I told myself I'll never go away. I'll never quit from what is my goal in life and never abandon my friends. I responded with just six words that left this man speechless: "It teached me how to live..." Thank you Dark Souls, thank you Miyazaki and Thank you Miyura. For giving this masterpiece. Sorry for this long story. Don't you dare go hollow all of you 🍻

Dark Souls is a series that I think everyone (even those who hate games) should experience. It is a series that helped me escape depression in high school and is the series that made me choose a literature major. I recently did a research paper on Bloodborne (a huge gamble since it’s worth 80% of my class grade) and ended up getting a A+ on it. I think if a game can impress a literature professor then it shows it’s quality.

You know, i could write a book on my dark souls experiences. My grandfather is an old Vietnam vet. He found demon souls on ps when it came out and kept pushing me to play it. I kept putting it off. Finally after ds3 came out i bought him the game as a present but played it myself. Together we've beat every game together over the last 3 years over and over. He summons me for help at times but he finds his way to cheese every boss. Watching him kill bosses that no guide on YT can teach you with a bow got me to say one day "grandpa you're a damn cheater.". His response will always lay with me "yea well this game fucking cheats" as he killed the nameless king 1st phase with just a damn bow. Me and him always hated prince lothric. I killed them 20+ times for him as it was the only boss he couldnt find his own way to cheese. To hear that dialogue on the opening of this video just captivates me. We all have stories of this game i suppose. But me n my grandfather share such a deep bond of this series its hard not to want to share it with others sometimes. To see people's faces when they hear my 70 year old grandfather knows the souls series in and out is hilarious. Thanks for the video my friend, for it let's me remember these great times. Fear not the dark my friend, and let the feast begin.

@@wainfowest cheers! I'm afraid my grandfather's fingers won't be able to keep up with such changes. Demon souls he was an absolute master at while 64 years old. I wasn't playing at the time and he couldn't get past a boss. He found a summon sign and summoned a Chinese man who could hardly communicate with him. They used Google translate to accomplish the boss and that man would always help my grandpa in time of need after on his old ps3. I joined my grandpas journey when i bought ds3 for 20$ because i knew he liked demon souls. As a younger man than him i was faster to pick up pace and learn to love the series starting at ds3. He went from demon souls to ds3 at the age of 68. Couldn't even kill ludex for first 10 characters but after that he learned to cheese up to abyss watchers. Hed make 5 characters and level them up differently. Ide be called over to play for him and get a few chars past a boss for him. He'd see how i did it and get past that boss on whatever character was built the best. Then delete ALL his characters and restart with a character that didn't need my help. Once he hit a roadblock on that character he'd make a new one until he had 5 characters stuck. Ide come over, kill pontiff 5 times of 5 random characters and say my goodbyes. He'd call me up the next day "yea i deleted all those characters and made a new one but i beat the pontiff without your help.". We went to ds1 after ds3 and now he is playing ds2 over for the 10th time. He learns the easiest button combos and laid back approach (hence 70 years old now). But he will always make it through. A man old enough to see his body go hollow before his mind could. Its something i don't take for granted.

@@wainfowest also, never underestimate a 70 year old in ds3 pvp. My grandfather just assumes every invader is an npc. Ive seen him try to get real players stuck on npc boundaries so he can shoot them with range. He refers to real players as "wtf is this stupid thing" as he r1 spams them as they go to wave. He'll kill them and i go "grandpa that was a real player" with him not understanding the fact a 70 year old just smashed a twunk build replying "oh well, i didnt know.

@@wainfowest Thanks for taking interest enough to read! Its just a journey between my grandpa and I. Born in this digital age as youngsters many of us didn't get to connect to our elders through video games. I was blessed in that sense. My grandpa brought me into runescape during devious mud days pre 2001 release. Diablo 1, Diablo 2. Warcraft 3 and Warcraft 3 tft. My grandmother beat max payne 1 and 2 in her early 50s and i played with her. Mind the fact im only 26 and got to live a life of no restrictions on video games since the age of 3 its just a story worth sharing. Imagine youre grandmother introducing you to gta3 in her 50s. We all just knew it was "only a video game" but until me and my grandfather met the souls series we didnt know that games can go beyond that.

When you just hear ”it’s popular because it is hard” you don’t get it. There is something missing. Games that are hard need to stand out in some way. I played Dark Souls out of curiosity and felt the world to be so alive. It felt real but is also felt haunted. I played the game and understood some of it but I still didn’t get it. I played it three more times and then Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3. Then it clicked. It’s not about the challenge. The challenge is only a part of the atmosphere and world building. This is one of the most thematically beautiful stories ever about going against all odds to find a purpose in a world that is dying. It is only at the end when the game let’s you make the decision on what you believe is right.

Beautifully said, it genuinely brought tears to my eyes reading your comment. Dark souls 3 was my first intro to the series and it always gives me a sense of peace and hope whenever I try something new. Every challenge I face learning anything new I always remind myself, as long as I’m persistent and keep trying I will achieve my goals. Dark souls drilled that into my head and in turn I learned to overcome them. Like learning manual (stick shift, still learning by the way) or looking for a new job, applying over and over, interviews after interviews, I kept going to the next one even when the previous interviews said I lack the experience, I kept going and was rewarded for my persistence by learning rhythms and patterns of a new routine, or new skills by asking and redoing them to understand them. I’m really glad I found this game, when I was in a dark place this game helped me find solace and beauty in the darkness, but the fire inside me guiding me to keep going, that fire/ambition (that Elden ring also kept drilling into me). When I got fired, I kept it together until I got home and spiraled into depression, kept applying to jobs, worked at lower paying jobs just to make ends meet, barely but I did it, I just kept believing that if I tried and tried again I could make it again. Until one day I got my job title at a different location and survived once more, my friend sat me down and said “you seem stronger, like there is this fire.” I told her the termination destroyed my self worth as a person and it was very dehumanizing, being told I wasn’t good enough and getting kicked out. And she said something that literally made me have flashbacks of the game and I cried in front of her. She said “when they kicked you out, you were trying so hard to make a fire. You made a spark that turned into an ember. I saw you applying and I understood that as nurturing the ember. Slowly you worked your way back up and that ember became a flame. And look at you now” and I genuinely heard the fire keeper say “ashen one link the flame” and everything just made sense. To this day whenever something good happens I will says under my breather or shout, “praise the sun!” I know that was a lot but when I was depressed, this game genuinely helped save me. It will always have a special place in heart. Don’t you dare go hollow. Praise the sun. Thank you for reading

In all seriousness... I hate how misunderstood DS3 is, it's the only game in the series that excels in how it presents it's themes. The emotional impact of it isn't just through superb gameplay, but a completely mesmerizing world at the brink of collapse and death. The art direction peaked in this game, too.

See, I firmly believe that video games are a medium of storytelling and art that is unmatched and the depth of emotion one can feel from such an interactive experience has not been achieved by any other medium of entertainment. This is precisely why everyone loved Dark Souls. Beyond the difficulty there is art. Shame that most games we get anymore are multiplayer and mosh pit stuff.

I just started playing the souls games last month and have already made it to three and just the story of dark souls despite how little there is to be seen in a casual playthrough is a story that fills to us all. It is a story of a world on brink of dying while you have to pick if it is time to let it die. These games have changed the lives of so many people even my own despite how recently I started playing them. So thank you to the souls games may they live on till the end of time. Drink your Estus my friends, Praise the sun, and don't you dare go hollow out there.

Out of the many games I played during 2021, Dark Souls 3 has to be my favorite. Despite never struggling with this game, I’ve had an insane amount of fun playing this game. The graphics are beautiful, the combat is simplistic yet detailed, the narrative is incredibly consistent with everything screaming at you that the end is coming, the bosses are all so uniquely designed and have vastly different settings and themes, you could practically see a completely different story from each and every one of them, it’s why the Abyss Watchers are one of my favorite bosses in video games, everything about that boss screams a tragic story. Every area is so well-detailed, each with a different setting and theme, the NPCs are amazing, Siegward might be one of my favorite video game characters of all time because of his jolly personality, and the reward for completing his questline; fighting alongside him to slay Yhorm, to fulfill his promise. This game has so much replay value from all the kinds of builds you can do, and all the weapons you can try out, not to mention that Weapon Arts add a unique flair to the more generic looking weapons. In the short amount of time it’s been since I first started playing Dark Souls 3, I’ve fallen in love with the Souls games, if you can look past the insane difficulty and challenge, you can see a story that could only be woven by Miyazaki himself. This game has changed me forever, and if I could go back to when it started I’d do it all again. May the flames guide thee, Ashen Ones. Mayst thou thine peace discover’t.

This is such an amazing edit, I found it only a few days ago but I've watched it multiple times just because of how infectious every decision is. The music choice, the quotes peppered throughout, the mix of cinematics and real gameplay, the mini-story being told throughout. I can truly tell that this game affected you just as much as it did me and I really appreciate that you've used your talents to create an homage to one of the best video games and game series of all time. I definitely need to go back and play DS3 again, making sure to do all of the quests, listen to all of the dialogue, enjoy every morsel it has to offer.

Dark souls 3 was the first souls game i ever touched... Helped me a lot get through depression at my 3rd year in university. I had no interest in going out i had lost my interest about studying i had lost interest even in getting out of bed in the morning and when i did i only played video games. Dark souls 3 made me realize that even in a hella shitty situation i should never give up and try to fight my way through it. I only wish i could erase my memory and play it for the first time again

Even in the wake of Elden Ring's success this game still echoes in the back of my mind. I love Elden ring but I don't think anything will ever top Dark Souls to me, at least not in the genre of souls. If I end up being wrong then God bless whoever manages to pull of a game that gets me to question my life more than this one.

I'm 23 years old and struggling with existing. I always had a struggle for a long time, it wasn't anything new. However playing dark souls gave me an experience of a lifetime. Everything I felt about growing up was so poetically expressed, I couldn't help but shed tears after many of my playthroughs in soulsborne. As I cling to the embers of my humanity, I hope I can be strong, but most inportantly remain strong.

I never played Dark Souls, except for a little bit of the first game. I've watched so many videos about the lore and world of the games, but never experienced them for myself first hand. I want to play them, but I'm afraid it won't hit the same knowing exactly what's going to happen. I'm afraid it won't have the same life altering impact that so many of you have felt. Maybe I've built it up in my head too much. I played Elden Ring and loved every second of it, but it seems like Dark Souls is just something different. Regardless, I still feel a love for these games I never played. I almost wish I could forget it all and live through the experience untainted. Maybe I'll feel different if and when I play them, but until then, be safe, and don't you dare go hollow.

When the music was rising with crescendo to the culmination, I thought:, "please, let there will be those words in the end". My favourite bittersweet moment of this incredible journey I had. Always touching on my heartstrings oh so dearly every time I recall them. ...and indeed you did it. You put them there, right in my feelings. "Ashen one. Hearest thou my voice still?" Thank you my friend for the tears that filled my eyes. This is a beautiful game. Whatever masterpieces came next, this game will still has a special place in our hearts.

I can't explain my feelings towards ds3 with just words, and when I reached the abyss watchers for the first time and defeated them then knowing their lore and how they blindly believe in Artorias. I felt the duty to carry that weight and so I did wear their set and believed in a false legend trying to link the first flame

I hope someone sees this and will spread this message in some way. The Many things about dark souls. You get lost in this beautiful masterpiece. Get attached to characters. Yet you still have to say goodbye. Not the kind of goodbyes where you don’t see them again it’s the ones where you say “Don’t you dare go hollow.”That’s the sad part about dark souls they do go hollow. And you see them again over and over but they don’t remember. Making you lost and making those dear friends you made on your first journey. At least you get to experience to seeing them over and over again and the possibility of saving them. That’s probably one of the beauties of dark souls. Dark souls isn’t just a video game it’s a something you move away from reality to be lost in dark souls instead. Hopefully this would have the same meaning for other video games that other people enjoy. Honestly video games is probably what helps me get through shit. Most of my friends usually don’t talk to me or accidentally exclude me maybe even on purpose. Video games in my opinion gives me happiness and makes me feel cured and feel alright again.

I think the Dark souls Universe Has the Most tragic lore in any Video Game, for me Even in fiction. If you think about, when gwyn first recindled the Flame, the world already sealed its fate. Literal nobodys (the Player, it doesnt matter in the end, what you do) try to Save an already doomned world and you know that it is doomned so you Can make the world live a little bit more. The Lords of cinder are the best example because they already sacreficed themselves and it did nothing, Thats why they dont want to Return to their Thrones. The world was already in a State of age of Fire and it was Like hell, so is the world worth saving? Not at all. But we are still trying to but what for? Its hopless and that kinda resembles our own world and Thats why i think it Has the best phelosophy in the Gaming world.

I also want to add gael. It s seems Like He is trying to save the world but He is not, He wants to create a world where nobody Has to suffer. He does this for a world Which despises him and goes insane. Thats what i call sacrificing your Self for people that dont Even know He exists He is just like the protagonist, it doesnt matter what He does He will still be forgotten. That is really poetic

This game franchise saved my life. I was intrigued and obsessed with the challenge and difficulty of the game. And after playing it, i realized that my mental health was actually better. Because it taught me that struggling was good. and subconsciously i started realizing that, so i seeked challenges to face in my life. Ones that would fulfill me. After that, i started working out, stopped fapping, and became so much more than i could have imagined back then. Now after having played Dark Souls I, II and III, Elden Ring and Sekiro... i have truly become the best version of myself. I meditate, journal, read, workout, do nofap, eat clean... all because of one game. Dark Souls will always be the center of it all. Because this miraculous, beautiful and mystical world... Has truly changed my life. To anyone struggling out there, think about this game. Think about all the struggle you have gone through in real life and in Dark Souls. Is that really worthy of giving up? all of this for nothing? no, it was for something, and that something is beautiful. You will make it, we will all make it. Thank you for this incredible experience.
