I’m Dominican/Puerto Rican. My hair was always called bad hair growing up until I finally said no more to straight hair. Let my hair just curl. The stares and comments were wild..in NYC!!! Next year natural hair exploded. My ex-husband who is black, didn’t really care for my hair. Sad but true. Another black man wanted me to wear straight hair. Moral to my story..happy to be alone with my healthy curly hair. Thank you for this video. God is great! He loves us as we are!!

I’m a black woman with natural hair who’s married to a white man that appreciates my Afro textured hair more than I do. He wants me to where my Afro hair in public and I’m not comfortable with it, but since he like it, I wear it. If it weren’t for my (white) husband appreciating my Afro hair, I probably wouldn’t have any hair if it wasn’t for him.

This may be one of the best natural hair videos that I have ever seen. My natural hair "journey" started with my hair and ended in my soul. I never really wore make-up, weaves, or wigs. My relaxed long hair was my crutch and unless it was 100% "done" all the time, I didn't even want to leave the house at times. I gave up some of the things I loved doing such as swimming, scuba diving or anything that would ruin my hair that I eventually put on some weight. CRAZY!! I know. Fast forward to the pandemic and not worrying about what I was doing with my hair. I let my relaxer grow out and then cut the remaining struggling ends off. And BOOM, I am exercising and truly my natural hair and less stressed about everything including my hair.

😭omg thank you! Wowzers! You touched on some MAJOR RELATABLE experiences i believe are so common to black women. That’s absolutely amazing what a prison we make of our hair in its alternate state. And when we choose to let it be as it is, it’s freeing! Wow!! And you’re taking better care of yourself as a result! wonderful testimony and thank you again! 🥹🙏🏾💕

Natural hair journey never ends for me even after i became natural i was fighting my hair trying to get it to be stretched trying too hard to fight against the natural shrinkage. Thats when i realized- i just need to love my hair as is before it being altered and i have been making a consious effort everyday to tell myself my hair looks nice even when i have a bad wash and go. And the BIGGEST thing imo that changed is i started telling myself i loved my hair even in its super shrunken state
@CoilyCodeАй бұрын
I love what you said Megan! And I don’t think many ppl point this out, I certainly missed it. But even after going natural, yes we broke away from chemicals, but the need to alter our hair texture as a way to feel beautiful is still an issue. The shrunken state is my favorite of all! Thank you for sharing!

I normally stick with a twa or a buzz cut but grew it out for 7 months. Let me tell you I LOVE MY SHRINKAGE!! Once I figure out how to do a wash and go my curls were go bouncy. I cut it off again cause I dyed it pink 😂 but I’m growing out again. No more hair dye. ❤

Black people always bullied me for having loose 3b curls. And that hurts me because they’re my own kind. So then I started straightening my hair but I recently just went natural again. And I get so many compliments but mainly from people who aren’t my race.
@CoilyCodeАй бұрын
I’m sorry you went through that. It’s just a reflection of how they feel about themselves, it’s not you or the way God made you. And some ppl don’t love themselves enough to appreciate the beauty in others. But I’m glad you decided to overcome those experiences and rock what God gave you. Some people will love it, and some will hate it. All that matters is you love what you are. Thanks for sharing! As an aside I find that most people who aren’t black, love our hair so much ahhahahaa! So bittersweet.

@@CoilyCode, I learned that I am not a magician and everything that happens is supposed to be as it is, my input only changes the course and the impact not the situation. Birds fly bees buzz trees grow big and strong sun shines and the rain waters, all without their help! It is as it should be. Thank God for leading you to create this video and thank you for sharing. I share some of the same experiences as you. I hid behind makeup and nails and clothes and shoes and partying and I never wore wigs but I had weaves and locs and even though locs are "a natural hairstyle" I realized I even hid behind those so I wouldn't have to "deal" with my natural hair. Once I took my locs out I hid behind braids because I again didn't know how to "deal" with my natural hair and was trying to make it look like something it wasn't and was mad it wouldn't grow. One day I was going to grab some hair to do braids and heard the Holy Spirit say "no more fake hair". So from that moment I stopped and learned my hair. I learned and accepted that the hair God gave me was like His and good as He said His creation is. I finally learned and accepted my hair instead of "dealing" with it. Eventually I started to see the true beauty in me given to me from God and not from the worldly standards. It was then that my hair started flourishing and now I LOVE what I see in the mirror. To God be the glory!! Love you Sister in Jesus Christ and thank you sharing.

Lori, you and I are one and the same except I would relax my hair and regret it after too. Trust me, I understand. But it has something to do with our mindset (or belief system). I did a video about this some time ago (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpq0pKV5ecqiaJIsi=uNd7u8bh9GWFjYzo), it may give you some insight or help you narrow down what exactly it could be. Also, it may be none of those mindsets but a stress response. Possibly. However, it’s not uncommon what you’re experiencing. And there is a solution. Thank you for sharing! You’re in great company my dear 💕

I don’t think it’s that deep to be honest. I think u r just used to using a relaxer in your hair and so to deal with your natural hair is much difficult because it’s a different texture but it’s only difficult at the start once the hair starts to get longer you will find that you don’t really need to do anything to it just wash it Condition it then leave it. On the other hand make up… well this is something that I always say you should never really get into because once you start false advertising it’s difficult to peel back. It’s better. You just let your natural beauty shine and if you wanna wear some lipstick fine it alters your look a little bit you take it off. It’s not too much of a change. By the way your hair is growing wonderfully ❤.

@t-helen-priceАй бұрын
Not that deep to you but may be to others and if you see, most of the video footage are very old videos because if you look at the last several videos, they are exactly her letting her natural hair shine and she has been wearing some makeup but it’s no longer a crutch. But maybe this is your first time being here. Never assume it’s not that deep. You don’t know peoples struggles and I think 60-80% if natural hair girls related to the video and were encouraged by it and that’s what matters.

Don't marvel if the world hates you. You have the hair of THE KING OF KINGS on your head! Your horn is exalted by Him (psalms 89, 92). Focus on Him (Isaiah 26:3). He made you and if anyone has a problem with how you look, he/she have a problem with the King of Kings. Speak His promises and blesses over you, including your hair. God bless you. May God you 7 times the joy and blessings for every tear you have cried based on the lies you had believed and fill you with His Word, have it wriiten in your heart, so nothing less than His will for you will stand against you. I will never straighten my hair for as long as I live. I have never enjoyed straightening my hair and I never did it on a regular basis. I did it because I had to not because I wanted to. I feel confident in my own natural hair. Hate straight hair. It looks dead to me. Particularly when its blonde. It reminds me of horse hair. It is weird and unattractive.
@CoilyCodeАй бұрын
Hmm I don’t know if I can say never, but I have no desire to straighten my hair either. Especially cuz when it’s straight, I lose like 50% of my volume 🤣! And I think if anyone plans to go blonde, they really need to invest in a lot of high quality products to maintain the health cuz I’ve seen plenty of naturals rock blonde in healthy way. But it breaks so easily! I love that you love your natural hair and it’s a wonderful place for us to get to. Thanks for sharing 💕
