"It's like the river just got added 10x as many moves!" | Upper Gauley

Though every run that I have gotten the new Antix on has been dope, I have been waiting for the chance to get it on the Upper Gauley. I just knew it was gonna be so fun, and the ultimate boat for it. I was definitely not disappointed, it was better than I expected. With the 2.0 it just seemed like there were 10x as many moves as there was before, all the way down to even the final rapid. Every little seam was possible to hold an endless squirt, and the ferries and moves were even better with that extra speed. It didn't hurt that I got to paddle with Stephen and Clay who had been there all summer, so they were able to show me all the new moves they had found. I was absolutely exhausted by the end, but I could do that day after day, and continue to find new moves every time. It was glorious.

You are the man Dane, wish I was 1/10th as good as you. Also, IMO, it is great how you interact with the paddling community. You never have been too cool or too good to talk to anyone. That alone speaks volumes to your character and separates you from a lot of the other top tier kayakers. God bless, and keep sending it.

I was at the Gauley when you were. I was amazed by your boating skills! Also I watched a bunch of your videos all week and just this past Saturday and Sunday I was at the Gauley again and a lot of new tricks started to click for me.

You and your dad are solid guys. Finally found a crew that has downriver fun and antix(accidental boat promo) out here in cali like you back east guys do. You ran into one of them out on g-wave on the nfa when it was pumping. That wave use to be better but the rocks have shifted around in 2017. Hope to run into you one day on the river. Till then, keep on having fun.

I used to kayak a lot in white water in England but we never did the 'wheelie' move that I see here (putting the point up into the air). Is that because boats are much lighter these days (I had an Ace Perception Dancer) / people just like doing it? We would stick the back and front of the kayak into stoppers and pop out or twist down but this makes it look like all you have to do is lean back. Its been a few years :(

Please forgive my ignorance since I know nothing about kayaking, but I was wondering why you do the nose up spins... You seem to do it after every drop or at every hole. Is this just fun to do or does it serve some technical purpose??

They are called pivots. Usually used in slalom kayaking for maneuverability, they also happen to be extremely fun.

@@jackkayak they might be called pivots in slalom but in a W.W. boat they are called stern squirts. and held much longer than when in slalom course because we do them for fun, not to keep our lap times low.

@@jackkayak they are called stern squirts and the spinning is to keep the bow vertical using the current with the top or bottom of the stern deck. I've been a playboater for over 25 years and i have never heard them called "pivots" that must be a slalom course description
