Ah thanks Andrew. Wonderful life is my boat . I'm currently painting it. Thank you so much for lending me a saucepan the other evening 🙂

Hahaha yeah, no pain at all ! I wouldn't want to do it on my own that's for sure.

@@lockfairy8770 Doing locks on your own is easier going downhill so I wouldn't have that hassle, and I'd heard the canal was pretty special further on, which it is. All the bad stuff I'd heard about this canal is rubbish it turns out. So pleased I continued.

Just come across this....interesting, as I had my winter mooring in Bristol Harbour for a number of years and did the K and A each way every year...including Caen Hill flight (single-handed - although sometimes breasted-up) - well worth it on the way East each spring, as the lovely level section across Wiltshire was always a joy! I'm intrigued by the name Swan's neck. Is this a reference to that favourite mooring on the Avon (Shakespeare's!) between Tewkesbury and Pershore? If so it brings back mixed memories as that was where I happened to be in the great flood of 2007 when the river turned into a lake as far as the eye could see! Five days I was stranded there, mooring ropes going straight down....most dodgy moment when the flooding abated and I knew I was well over the bank - I sat on the roof all night poling-off until we were down!

Even before my bad knee I always thought going down hill was harder than going up but it does often take less time. Don’t think the less time works for canals. It looks much more relaxing than our snow. Even the skiers are complaining this year though their mantra is “we need more snow” thanks for the relaxing visit . Off to move more snow. I’ve got those “Deep Snow Drift Blues”

Hi Skip, going down in these broad locks is so much easier and quicker than going up that's for sure, especially when working them solo. Going down there's less turbulence and you can just let the boat sit on the gate, going up you need to keep pulling the boat in, and you have to let the water in slowly. Spring is on its way, so hopefully you'll not have to clear too much more snow. Take care.

I hope you got a slap up dinner Chris=-) There is some really beautiful scenery on some canals especially on a calm still blue sky day. Thanks Andrew, I just need some calm right now. Take care =-)

I must admit that when we suspect something is trapped behind a lock gate, we spend a few minutes with a boathook trying to dislodge it.
