Turin, the leadership penalty for your lord fleeing isn't permanent. It's a big morale shock, but it goes away. Your lord *dying* however causes a big initial penalty which then fades to a slightly smaller permanent one.

Nope. I unsummoned Sigmar's sons + Hammer at the start after seeing I was going to get swamped by a very melee heavy army. It's going to have 0 value once lines clash, so I only fired a few shots before unsummoning.

@@AqMMM The problem was that I needed all the infantry I could get immediately, so I didn't really have that luxury. The funds I got from unsummoning gave me 2 spearmen instantly. I figured I could hold, and then simply recapture the map. But for that to happen I needed enough units to survive basically.

It's because knoblars can't win without support and the bulls all have massive hitboxes for missiles. It leaves the faction in a situation where they can't afford to take any missile or arty fire. Then, it becomes a losing game of spawn distance. If ogers don't rush against the empire like that, a duel cannon build with hunstmen support is going to destroy them in the first 5-10 minutes of the game.

Uhh... the faction's entire gimmick is that its roster is mostly monstrous units. What other option do they have? Gnoblar spam?

Because monstrous infantry generally doesn't do all that well if un-supported. If you got an all-infantry frontline facing off against an all monstrous infantry frontline of the same value, the regular infantry is usually going to win. Therefore, outside of the Ogres who have a more specialized monstrous infantry roster and a lot of good abilities and spells to support that playstyle, you normally don't want to be spamming monstrous infantry, you want just a few, saturated with a lot of regular infantry.

You know orges are a bad faction when the Empire, of all factions, can destroy them so easily with chaff infantry. A rush faction that can't break basic empire troops on the charge ... embarrasing.

Ogres are at a 48% winrate overall to the Empire's 49% winrate. They're both middle of the road, Empire is just somewhat favored in this matchup and True Bretonnian made a major mistake overextending his pricey lord like that.

Kind of makes sense from a lore perspective, though. Ogres are powerful fighters, but they lack advanced tactics or any formal training. They are a powerful addition to mercenary regiments to use as shock troopers, but an army consisting only of ogres and gnoblars, commanded by ogres, would not fare well against a force of the empire that's made of professional, trained soldiers, led by an experienced commander who knows what he's doing. That aside, the empire player just played it better.
