This is the song that rips me up every single time I hear it. Not only do his silky smooth vocals envelop you in a warm embrace, but add to that his impassioned plea for Priscilla to listen to his words and it's all just so overwhelmingly powerful. She was in the audience at that show and in that moment he bared his soul to her - as if not a single other person was around. He was singing just to her. The song was released in late September of '74 and he was performing it just a few weeks ahead of the release date. So here we have Elvis who is publicly living with Linda Thompson during this timeframe (1972-1976), and also being public about a relationship with Sheila Ryan during that muddy timeline, and who knows how many other undisclosed ones...and it's his former wife that he's calling out to and pouring his heart out to. "When the words are too difficult to say....SING"...and he did.

There are two Elvis Presley's. One the entertainer and two a private family man who loved his wife and child. He gave so much to his audience that many times he must have felt exhausted and there wasn't much left to give to his family but it was and is obvious that he loved his family so much. Such a wonderful human being. To me, he is a wonder of a man with a God given talent that no one can match. I mean no one.

Had respect for the MOTHER of his child. But he didn't trust her or love her in that way..ever. We all look back in old age or hard times and wonder if we made the right decisions. My mother regrets some decisions but lives on forward. As Elvis did. He was to marry Ginger. And cilla couldn't care less to help Elvis when, as Lisa said..he was crying out for help. Cilla knew Elvis couldn't sleep alone..even as a child. That is the secret truth. He grew next to his brother. But he didn't want cilla.

I was his friend for years up until his death. No one knew more than Elvis did how much he screwed up, he owned everything that he did in his life he blamed no one but himself for the shape he was in, and the choices he made. Priscilla also owns her part in the ending of their marriage she and i still talk a lot the loss of Lisa broke her. Elvis and i spoke a few times before his death he was the big brother i never had. We both needed a friend and we were that for each other. The memories we made in 10 short years are locked away in my heart forever. The last time we spoke we cried a lot because we both knew he was living on borrowed time he called me kiddo he said kiddo everything will be ok i said no it wouldn't because you will not be here anymore. He gave me the biggest hug and that sweet smile i will never forget. 3 days later he was gone and i will never get over it.

First of all, it's not exactly clear that it's what he's saying. Second of all, per MANY sources, he was over Cilla already and had moved on, first with Linda and then with Ginger. Cilla is perpetuating the fantasy, but that's all it is - fantasy. He loved her as the mother of his child, but that's the extent of it. He had moved on, like all divorced people do.

He TOLD Me that he did NOT love Priscilla. He was forced to marry her. He told me then, on April 14, 1972 in Greensboro, NC that she was a greedy, hateful woman. He loved Lisa. Priscilla was a pushy woman that destroyed him inside. She was a bad habit that he could not get rid of because of Lisa. He knew exactly what Priscilla was…a money hungry deceitful woman. I don’t doubt his love for her. It’s her love for him that I doubt . She left him with no trying to talk to him, to try to fix their marriage. She cheated on him, with her karate teacher ( after Elvis suggested she take lessons) Mike stone explained that she was flirting with him, & made him leave his pregnant wife and small child). And then she never tried to go back to him. She told lies to her daughter, saying if anyone tried to help him, he would put them out of his life. That’s a LIE. She was covering up her inability to care for him. You don’t help someone that had the busy responsibilities of working constantly to take care of 100 people. You stay You act as his advocate to get him a proper cardiologist and gastroenterologist and STAY BY HIS SIDE Rather than coming up with childish ideas that he should work alone because he could do his best work. She was well aware that this man didn’t like to sleep alone wanted his woman by your side show me the own decision. She made terrible decisions I believe she saved Graceland, to save her soul and for HERSELF and Lisa Marie

@cherylspencer. You’re wrong also Mike stone was her karate teacher- Elvis suggested she take karate and she flirted with the intention to leave Elvis. Fact- she cheated when she was pregnant ( less than one year married) at the 68 comeback . And she knew what she should know that I was invited to sleep alone. She wanted her to go with him when he traveled and she refused. She comes up with the nonsense that he would do their work, and she wasn’t around. Elvis couldn’t sleep alone And she SHOULD’VE BEEN WITH HIM. I fell as special with a woman. No one knows what he was doing maybe person to read the template, but he never left her for another woman that she cheated on him with a married man and convinced that man to leave his pregnant wife, and child some thing that Elvis never did. So don’t lift her up. She was wrong She married him for fame and fortune

Elvis truly loved Priscilla his first true love and this song proves it. He regretted loosing her!! She stood by him for as long as she could but in the end after very painful decisions decided she needed to find herself and her worth. She was a beautiful, sensible and intelligent person who just needed to experience the world out there as he did.

Many people talk about Elvis' life, but that's not good. Elvis will also laugh. Elvis will be laughing too. Many of the great geniuses have a sad end. Great stars are struggling to get mediocre happiness, and their happiness is probably when they were at work. Elvis loved live performances. Elvis, John Lennon, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Sam Cooke, James Dean, Sid Vicious, Marilyn Monroe, and many other great stars of the past are glorious, but had lives full of ups and downs. But the things left by great stars are still appreciated by many people.

“Elvis Presley is like the ‘Big Bang’ of rock ’n’ roll. It all came from there and what you had in Elvis Presley is a very interesting moment because, really, to be pretentious about it for a minute, you had two cultures colliding there. You had a kind of white, European culture and an African culture coming together-the rhythm, OK,, of black music and the melody chord progressions of white music, just all came together in that kind of spastic dance of his. That was the moment.” -Bono “Ask anyone. If it hadn’t been for Elvis, I don’t know where popular music would be. He was the one that started it all off, and he was definitely the start of it for me.”-Elton John “Elvis is the greatest cultural force in the 20th century. He introduced the beat to everything, music, language, clothes, it’s a whole new social revolution - the ’60s comes from it.”-Leonard Bernstein Deep Purple's lead singer and frontman, Ian Gillan, a damn good singer in his own right, said: " he was the greatest singer that ever lived." Henry Pleasants, Classical Music Critic in his book “The Great American Popular Singers” (1974). Elvis had a magnificent voice and towards the end of his life, he enjoyed singing in a somewhat operatic style, displaying his amazing range. Opera star Kiri Te Kanawa told Michael Parkinson that the young Elvis had the greatest voice she had ever heard. The tenor Placido Domingo similarly enthused in an interview in Spanish magazine Hola in 1994: “His was the one voice I wish to have had.” Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel told The New York Times in 2007 that Presley was: “very classically orientated with his voice and diction and very sincere and wanting to get everything perfect.” The australian Elvis Network there is an article called "the 50 voices of Elvis" and a lot of voice specialists (great) oppinion of Elvis. Pawarotti is on record saying " I can't sing as Elvis, but he can sing as I !" Elvis was not an opera singer and whether or not he could have been does not matter. What made him so different was not his so-called opera singer range but the utter freedom of his singing. Record producer John Owen Williams says of Elvis: "People talk of his range and power, his ability and ease in hitting the high notes. But the real difference between Elvis and other singers was that he could sing majestically in any style, be it rock, country, or R&B - because he had soul. He sang from the heart. And that is what made him the greatest singer in the history of popular music.” Only singer in music Hall of Fame Rock, Country, Blues, Gospel. "Even in his laziest moments, Presley was a master of intonation and phrasing, delivering his rich baritone with a disarming naturalness. And when he caught a spark from his great T.C.B. Band, Presley could still out-sing anyone in American pop. You can hear it here on inspired versions of Muddy Waters' Got My Mojo Working, Wayne Carson's Always on My Mind, Chuck Berry's Promised Land, McCartney's Lady Madonna, Percy Mayfield's Stranger in My Own Hometown, Dennis Linde's Burning Love and Joe South's Walk a Mile in My Shoes..." - "Presley's voice was remarkable in the sense that, through it, he touched people in a way only great artists can do. (In fact), the people he touched are as diverse as humanity itself and, because of that his popularity has transcended race, class, national boundaries, and culture. There is no simple answer about why that is so, all I can say is he had that magic. - John Bakke, professor emeritus of the University of Memphis, in an interview with the US State Department, transcripted by UNUSINFO on July 18, 2006 on the legacy of Elvis Presley. I think it was a combination of Elvis range, his voice, the feeling and the manerism (hickups, sighs, ahs and ohs etc. ) that made Elvis special [his way of moving, his looks, way of dressing and choices of styles, was just a big bonus]

I thought I'd heard all of Elvis's music until I came across this one, breaks my heart when he says "Listen Cilla", the man truly loved his wife, think about it, why would anyone be so public about how he is feeling by adding these two words for everyone to see and hear, its something that's good for Lisa Marie to have, while everybody gets up on their silly high horses pretending to know all about her parents' relationship, she always has this to listen to, they would never have made it no matter how much love there was between them, his career would always have been a dagger in the side, they were good parents' and that's a good thing that has come out of this sad, sad love story

I agree with you Bonnie, I just listened to this again and it really breaks my heart, I'm in a similar position at the moment with my ex of 30+ years, he still tells me he loves me and misses me but unfortunately to much water has gone under the bridge and I could never go back to him but like Elvis and priscilla, we are still best friends and care deeply for each other, I'm so happy I came across this as it puts a positive on all the negative with their love, marriage and relationship :)

Thank you Sherrilee for sharing your story. I also went through the same thing with my former wife after 20 years. I liked your analogy on to much water has gone under the bridge. It's hard to go back to someone that cheated on you. Trust is a very fragile thing when it comes to infidelity. You miss the times you shared but the trust is gone. Regardless of two become one in marriage. Its a rip not a clean cut like a death.

Saphire Blue you are right about one thing! Priscilla is a Princess!! She is a princess inside and out which is one of the many qualities Elvis loved about her!!! He reportedly told some friends that she was everything he had looked for in a woman!!!! He loved her and she loved him then and she loves him now!!! She has always been and will always be THE KEEPER OF THE FLAME because as YOU have stated HE LOVED HER!! Elvis was not blind and would have seen through anyone who tried to deceive him.

Yes he would of, I think people would of taken the risk of catching the virus just to see Elvis, but then again he was so into his fans he may of not performed to keep them safe!! All I know is I loved him back in the fifties and I love him now!! There will never be another single performer that can or will touch,"crowds, and fans, people, families," as Elvis ♥️

I admire Elvis since i was in my teenager. I loved his songs from rock in roll to the ballads. He sings with emotion to his very soul. the song its mignight i aolmost cried casue i know his deep feeling for his wife, efven though he had many other women in his life but he goes back to where his life begin with Priscila. I have seen all his video of his life nd gthe story of thier loved life, i really cried cause it is a unique loved story. sometimes i blame Priscila for not granting the request of Elvis. She should have come to the rescue of her husband beging her to come back but she hardened her heart... i am so sad about it.. Now and then i always turn to the you tube to always see the Elvis sings especially . LOve me Te3nder, Its now and never, And i loved you so. and my favorite is You give me mountain.

Elvis presley was in love with his exwife Priscilla, it's clear this song was dedicated to her, he never got over her, I believe she also loved him, , they had together their daughter,, she was too young and he had many women, but his true love was Pricilla❤❤, it sad they didn't save their marriage, when the loved to each other ❤❤❤

Why it's no good? Yeah, they were big in music. But what that means? That we must not talk about their shitty side? Oh, come on. Enough of these bullshits.
