Thanks Laura and Grant for showing how the planter works.......Love that you young farmers love the process and both are so well versed at such a young age. Very Impressed you TWO! Great job. It is nice to learn the break down of what one ROW does! Now I wont just look at Laura's or Grant's planter and think it is seeding the row it is really such a process for just one single row.

Tip: I put a dab of axle grease on all my bolts, they come out so much trouble free the next time. Also prevent rust. Just drip in a can of grease and screw in. especially lug bolts

I bought a 7000 deer planner from a neighbor here 15 years ago who is also a used machinery dealer. We rebuilt mine and updated it it does not get near the acreage that what you guys are using does, but I learned my way around those disc openers and true fees and so on. It's an invaluable lesson and I always have it in my back pocket when I go to plant in case something goes wrong I remember what we did but I remember using strips of newspaper between the discs one on each side bring them in like a feeler gauge and measuring the distance between them and then changing shims accordingly. I'm not necessarily a fan of green paint but dear in my eyes builds a planter that has no equal. Thanks for the fun enjoy yourself working on it!

Thanks for the bright and cheery "Good Morning" out in the dusty snow. Glad you "F.irst O.n R.ace D.ay" fired up for you two. I've always found mine to be reliable. I have a 1996 Econoline that sat for two years and with a battery booster she fired right up and drove to town for fresh gas. Yeah, she spit and sputtered with the old fuel for a bit, but she burned it and still ran up to speed, with fresh 87 octane in her tank she screamed back down the highway like she hadn't been off the road at all. Regardless of bowtie guy's nicknames, I've never had one leave me stranded anywhere. Chevy and Dodges on the other hand... I have had a few reliable ones, but for the most part Chevys (that I've had) required a lot of maintaining, and while the Dodges didn't require near as much maintenance as the bowties did, they were all gas hogs by comparison to the other two brands. And when they did break down, it was always on the side of the road. Edit: Gotta love a woman who doesn't rely on her man to load wheels into the back of the truck. Having said that, dude, there is something to be said about being a gentleman. Also, lunch looked good.

My 2011 F-350 had never failed to start no matter what the temp is outside. My favorite thing is the remote start on it. I press the button and then get my coffee, then off to work 10 minutes later in a warm truck. By the way, I start at 3:30am, so it is usually pretty cold when I go in.

Again, Laura and Grant, a very good video. For me, I am so drawn to your postings because you two are doing things I am so familiar with in a part of the mid west I am also so very familiar with. I have had a 7000, 16-row; 7200, 24-row; and1770, 16-spit-row John Deere planters that came from dealers in central Illinois; and for the newer, vacuum/air-type planters they gave me VHS tapes and DVD's to go along with the owner's manuals to learn about how they function/work as well as how to do servicing and maintenance. Also, I used to go to planter "clinics" in the winter. I really like watching you two work on that planter; and your explanation of how it works was very good. Like I've commented before, I have told a lot of people to watch your KZbin videos for accurate info about current, corn and soybean farming. - One of Your(and Grant's) biggest fans - Doug, a farmer from Missouri. (Sorry, I couldn't make it to the National Farm Machinery Show to maybe meet you two- maybe, the Farm Progress Show?)

Hey guys, it's no fun until the actual air temperature is -25F and the windchill factor is -40 or worse. That's when vehicles don't want to start and up in the northern plain states, we frequently have tank heaters or frost plug heaters installed when we can't park our vehicles inside out of the cold and wind.

The truck being under the roof and nosed right up against the building, helps A LOT in starting in sub zero weather. I'm originally from Vermont....... I know what cold weather is. That practice always helped a lot in winter.
@JohnDeere_Simulations
@JohnDeere_Simulations 2 жыл бұрын
I disagree The track of being next to the shed in zero temperatures will not keep the truck warm car batteries are funny that way they will start one time and not the next it’s because car batteries have plates in them that when introduced to cold weather it stops the chemical reaction when the battery gets cold you cannot start it or if it’s really cold you can’t jump it

8:25 I’ve trained a few copper and fiber splicing crews and in the process established that, “ Someone has to be thinking.” to the new guys. I did it by checking to see what everyone was doing and how they were doing it, then jumping in to work. Someone would do that on every job. It nearly eliminated errors or just plain old stupid time wasting and redundant motion.

Laura I will tell you that once truck batteries get cold they will not want to start the truck it’s because batteries have platelets inside and when the battery gets cold enough in the winter that cold will slow down to a stop the chemical reaction in the battery and you cannot jump the battery when it’s cold you will have to let the battery warm up to room temperature or shed temperature and then jump it.I have A lot of experience with this and if you’re trying to start the truck in the winter the starter takes a lot of amperage from the battery so if the battery is cold it won’t have those amps to start the engine and when you get the truck started you have to let it run to replace that charge that was lost by the cold.
