Is it nuts to install pivots in Madison County Iowa? Just South of Webster City? On tiled land? Also, why do these mostly seem to be powered by gasoline? instead of diesel? or electricity?
@alan68322 жыл бұрын
@@glengillham4629 I doubt the places they are used have gas lines, and it looks as though the one in this video is all electric because it is near electric lines. Also, can't more efficient, compression ignition engines also be adapted to use natural gas?
@42base132 жыл бұрын
@@alan6832 I farm a little east of Laura, and I've never heard of a pivot system that was gasoline powered. I'm not sure what part of the video suggested that to you, but I doubt that any of Laura's irrigation pivots are gasoline powered.

@@42base13 In the middle of this episode, what does this Chevy 454 burn and do? kzbin.info/www/bejne/jX-qp6eclq6Sea8
@42base132 жыл бұрын
@@alan6832 Well, in that episode, it burns bearings and almost loses a wheel. But when it's pumping water for a pivot, it's burning natural gas or propane. Probably natural gas, there were more lines pulled into fields in that area than here. Just look at the fuel line, that's a pressure hose.

Hey Grant and Laura, to get rid of the wasp, hornets, and bees, take some Dawn liquid dishwashing detergent add water and pour into a 3-5 gallon bucket. Wait until early in the morning or late in the evening when they are on the nest and throw or pour the whole bucket on them. It saves you from having to buy expensive spray cans. 🙏 Grandpa and family.

Motor phasing won't be a problem if you pay attention to which L1, L2 and L3 motor wires are connected. You may need to put wire labels on your source wires prior to disconnecting them for clarity. Retire electrical engineer.
@markreid68162 жыл бұрын
I agree! I've swapped out many three phase motors, maybe 100 or so. When ever possible check the direction. However,sometimes the direction isn't always clear. For example, a vacuum pump might turn into a blower. If someone else started the job, i.e. Pulled the wiring and you came in to complete the work. Lastly, if you installed a 1P3T switch inline with the motor you could cut power locally and affect repairs more rapidly. I can't even grow grass, mine is fake. True story.
@April89892 жыл бұрын
If, the motor is wired so that it rotates opposite, say CW, you just need to remove power and swap any two phase leads., such as put L1 where L2 was and then L2 where L1 was, for CCW rotation. Relable your leads. reapply power and you're good.
@joefudd2 жыл бұрын
@@April8989 that's what I've always done. Bump/jog the power and watch the rotation, swap a pair of wiring leads if needed.

As an electrician, I resemble that remark. I don't know enough about dirt, or tractors to fill a hat. A hint on phasing motors. Look at the wires on the old motor. There should be letters or numbers on the wires. Label the stuff before you change the motor. 9 times out of 10 the new motor has the same numbers/letters on the wires. :)

The UMC setup is obviously a smarter better thought out design. The knuckles have a urethane spider, no rubber that dry rot cracks and rots like the old ones, a thicker beefier yoke with bigger bolts for more strength. The gearbox drive was made to sit with the motor and seals mounted sideways no rain water can stand/pool on them and get into the oil. Now why you two were there, did you check the tire air pressures and wheel drive gear box oil levels and also for any water? Might as well PM those too and save yourselves some potential problems later on! You two are a great team! :-)
