Brian Glover used to be a teacher at my dad's old school; I've met Ashley Jackson; I used to live near Arthur Scargill; I used to go to a private painting class ran by a lady who lived in Charlie William's old house; and my high school Sports days were held at Dorothy Hyman stadium. Oh and my old high school was in Lundwood (it's a housing estate now...) Yup, I'm Barnsley through and through! And of the place, I'd say "it's alreight!"

I met Charlie Williams in town a couple of times after bumping into him with my dad and I went to the school that appeared in the film "KES" sadly demolished now. I live in Cudworth myself too. It's certainly a joke in Barnsley now; a town rammed full of Lidl's and Aldi's with a mile long traffic queue down Burton Road into town. They made a reight mess of the new road round Wickes.... as for all the alcoholic and spiced-up bums in the town centre, God knows why they aren't moved out

I also love Barnsley Town but it has the illusion of attraction - short-lived mobile phone and bric-a-brac shops litter the new market and I hear stall prices are exaggerated. Market Kitchen however is a huge success... this needs amplifying ten-fold. Man know thyself, as many a miner said - indeed, expand the Market Kitchen, attract the young wallets.

I'm proud to be from barnsley. I'm proud to be red and white. Monk bretton lad that went to grange gate Jr and priory lots of mates from down Lundwood at the time .i work in Sheffield and meet lots of people from different parts. and when I say from barnsley. I say it with pride . A lot worser places in the uk than tarn.

What I have noticed is we do have many people from Poland/Hungary/Romania etc living here now. I have lived here in Kendray for the last 12 years or so, but originally grew up in Mapplewell/Staincross and a few years at Athersley North. It's still way over 90% white I would imagine with what I see when out.
