Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury made history as both a musician and member of the LGBTQ+ community. While many look back on the artist as an inspiration, given his intense and high profile lifestyle, it's only natural he made a few enemies.

If someone “didn’t like” Freddie, it was only because they were envious or jealous or intimidated by the fact that he was a perfectionist when it came to music. EVERY SINGLE interview or comment I’ve EVER read or heard (from ALL types of people… from old school mates to car drivers to fellow musicians to fans who met him) …ALL have said - to a person - how respectful and genuinely considerate and concerned he was of literally EVERYONE… And, you can see it in his interviews - how he interacted with others. Brian May has said that Freddie was “the peacemaker” within the band… and EACH of his three bandmates have described Freddie as “my best friend”. (Along with Mary Austin, Elton John, personal assistant Peter Freestone, and I’m guessing there would be plenty of others who would say Freddie was their “best friend”, as well.) Freddie wasn’t a saint (NO ONE is) but, there must be a reason the people he knew best, still have such strong feelings for him: John Deacon retired from music completely after Freddie passed; Brian May STILL does a tribute to Fred in EVERY concert; Roger Taylor has a 20-FOOT statue of Freddie in his backyard; Elton John STILL cries when he talks about Freddie; Mary Austin lived in Fred’s house among his personal possessions for 30 YEARS without moving or changing a SINGLE thing, because she said it made it feel like Freddie was still there. There must be a reason for so much long-lasting devotion.

the only reason Sid Vicious hated Freddie was because in their first meeting while the 2 bands shared a studio, Freddie was able to verbally put Vicious in his place and no one had talked to him like that before. hearing the retelling of the meeting by Freddie in an interview was GLORIOUS! Mercury was and still is the greatest rock voice and musician that ever lived.

Freddie was a complex man who in spite of his bold front man persona was said to be a quiet, shy person. He was gifted with an incredible voice, lyrical ability and a huge heart. He was known to be generous, but after his death revelations of how generous he really was came out. Not everyone is going to like you. The fact that Queen's music is used in commercials, TV shows and before sports events is telling. I don't hear about Sid Vicious unless it's an old rehashed video or story about what he did to Nancy (claiming he doesn't remember). That speaks volumes.

In the late 70s l played in a punk band and had a long love of prog rock. My friends would roll their eyes and harass me about my Queen records. Whether in concert or on vinyl Queen were fantastic. Their ability as musicians was top tier and Freddy's voice was like no other. Brian May's guitar work and especially his tone seemed divinely inspired. I'm not alone in being a straight rocker who could care less about Freddy's orientation or love of ballet but know greatness when they hear it. Queen were great

Sid asked him if he'd brought opera to the masses yet, something Freddie said in an interview earlier. It was actually Johnny who kept annoying Queen, at one point, crawling through the door and popping up behind the piano while Freddie was playing! The management had told them not to annoy Queen, so they took that as a challenge! 😁

Queen was not universally popular back then. I was a big Queen fan from about 1975 on, and I took a ton of crap over it. Regarding the references to rolling stone magazine; It still (occasionally) surprises me just how completely and perpetually wrong about everything rolling stone mag has always been. I tried reading the rag every once in a while back in the late 70's and couldn't believe just how universally clueless the writers were. I tried to decide if maybe their penchant for being deaf and/or unable to comprehend music at all was maybe irony, or satire. But they are just too enamored with their journalistic incompetence for them to be clever enough for that. So whatever you hear/read coming from rs, know that there are other sources of music and music industry information that actually know what they are talking about. Case in point: they once had Lou Reed in the top 5 of their "Best Guitarists" category!!! Lou Reed???? Bizarre, self-important song writer? Sure. But, 'guitarists'??? That can only be humor or............................... well, covered it already.

“Them that can’t, resent them that can.” You may be correct. He loved opera but he took his perceived frustration and turned it into a storied career and music that is still valid today. BTW, hate is a rather strong emotion. Did Freddie hurt you personally in some way that makes “hate” a reasonable response to an entertainer? You don’t have to like his music or his personality or his lifestyle. But, HATE? I don’t care for certain entertainers or music styles. That’s my own taste. But, HATE”? A waste of energy. I simply don’t support them. Artists should be free to express themselves in their own way. If some don’t care for their efforts, don’t support them. This is a great You Tube. Most of the comments are supporting what my opinions are of Queen and Freddie Mercury. The American Music Critics and Journalists describe Queen far more eloquently than I could. "Queen may be the first truly Fascist Rock Band." That is brilliant because Fascism is evil and nasty. Fascism is at the polar opposite of my Politics. The main reason for the existence of PUNK ROCK was their reaction to the pompous, pretentious arrogant Rock Bands like Queen. Ironically, one of my favourite Rock songs is "Tie Your Mother Down" which is by Queen. Even though I despise Freddie and Queen. "Tie Your Mother Down" sounds like STATUS QUO, which for me is a very good thing. Of all the 70's Bands at the time John Lydon and The Sex Pistols liked STATUS QUO, because they were very 'down to earth' and 'unpretentious', QUO were like a PUNK Band that didn't care. I'm a massive fan of PUNK n POST-PUNK artists like Robert Smith, he and I are on the same wave length on many subjects and topics. Roger Taylor, Queen's talented Drummer and song writer and I do agree on one thing and that is his opinion of COLDPLAY. Roger said that "everything they do sounds too similar." Too many people are fans of mediocrity, which Coldplay are, dull, boring and beige just like another Band I despise, Canada's RUSH. Exciting Rock Music comes in the form of Australian Bands like THE SAINTS, RADIO BIRDMAN, THE CELIBATE RIFLES, THE LIME SPIDERS etc........... The most professional Rock Band I've ever seen and heard is STATUS QUO!!!!!!

Sid Vicious sounds a bit homophobic. But remember he was also self destructive, so he may have been annoying Freddie Mercury for kicks. Kenny Everett was not the only one to promote Bohemian Rhapsody, after it was realised the female boss of BBC Radio One's record picking team, insisted that it be played on the breakfast radio slot of Noel Edmonds. I'm not surprised some people don't like diva like people, but live and let live, I've met prats, divas and bullies in my life and never treated them badly, even if they have done so to me. If someone gets too much for you to handle, just walk away. Don't bother to bad mouth them, because you're just making yourself sound petty. One bully I had at school when I was eight, who was always made fun of by others, grew up to be a bank robber. I would guess that the backlash of tongues, just made him worse.

I would imagine the entire U.K. would be a bit upset that they already had a reputation for jacked up teeth and along comes this guy from elsewhere with like a mountain range in his mouth who comes to be associated worldwide with the U.K.

Lots of professional, jealousy, no doubt. I respect Robert Smith, and The Cure, but Queen will forever be heads and shoulders above them. Also, Dave Marsh must’ve had a thing for Freddie Mercury, because he was always outspoken about his hatred. It was to the point that there had to be some other reason. Sales and the band’s reputation decades later tell the tale. These other folks can screw off.

The Sex Pistols were a fabricated boy band of punk rockers. Sid Vicious was a joke that couldn't even play his bass. Robert Smith can't sing his way out of a paper bag . Meanwhile, Freddie Mercury is considered one of the greatest singers to ever live🙄

Sex Pistols.....authenticity ? Yeah - you totally missed the point of the Pistols. The Sex Pistols were the stage managed controversy. Their whole experience relied on artificially outrage. They were, however, the band that had the greatest ever single album. No other band released just 1 album as great as theirs. Then Kansas 15.5 million total sales. Queen total sales 300 million. Which one had a better grasp on music.

He was hyper intense and probably a bit (at times more than a bit) of a diva. However, he also worked his ass off and produced some of the most memorable music in pop music history. Robert Smith is a great musician but has always been an ass and chances are, he's probably jealous of Queen and their success.

Most of the comments on this YOU TUBE VIDEO are supporting what my opinions are of Queen and Freddie Mercury. Queen are the antithesis of everything good about Rock/Pop music. Queen did 4 good songs and the rest is crass rubbish. Most of Queen's songs don't require Guitar. Queen are a repulsive group of 'show ponys' The more I hear people say that Queen are great, the more my hatred grows. If you want to hear a genuine quality Rock Band then I urge you to listen to THE CASANOVAS. They are a very powerful, melodic Rock Band from Melbourne , Australia. They squash Queen like an insect.

The only reason anyone wouldn’t like let alone love Freddie is due to their own jealousy! Freddy was Freddie ! Iam sure he did not lose any sleepover any of these people’s feelings! Look at their success compared to Freddie’s . Still to this day..he’s more popular and loved over any of those sore losers! lol this is such a lame thought even! Everyone loved and still loves Freddie!

And how many records did The Cure and Kansas sell? Combined, maybe 45 million. How many records did Queen sell? Over 300 million. That says it all for the critics and the naysayers. All just jealous.
