Thanks. In a rehearsal with an accomplished keyboardist, we were playing Go Tell it on the Mountain. Which was for me, C9 F9 G9. The keyboardist just came out of his skin claiming I was dirtying up the chord with the flat seventh note. I switched to the 6/9 chord, and he was happy

Great overview. It's funny, I use that groove as a warm up before practice. It's a lot of fun to solo over. But, I've never thought to add this variation. Thanks!

I'm not an expert on music theory or chord naming but ... There is a difference between the C6/9 and the C69 chords. Sean was playing the C69.
