Brian Deegan joins us on the podcast once again on the heels of their Star Racing Yamaha announcement. This is some of the biggest news in the industry right now not only for a racing perspective, but also from the media and marketing angle. We are super stoked that Brian was keen to come back on the podcast to give us a rare look behind the curtain of a factory deal on this scale.

I am so happy for the Deegans, especially Brian. I grew up in Kansas in the amateur MX scene as two of my best friends raced and both have placed top 10 in amateur nationals. But, I would see Deegan at some local races on his 80, usually getting 2nd to Jeff Emig but still super fast. I remember Guy Coopers grand opening of his Perry, Ok nighttime SX track and Deegan got second that night to Fro as well, but that track was so cool with a giant concrete grandstand overlooking the track, basically in the middle of nowhere. So, I know how much of a grind he has gone through times 2 or 3. He can rest a little now and watch his son and get some joy.

It's the 2nd time I've watched this. The first time was when it first came out and Gypsy was one of the people that told everyone you better watch out because this young man is a lot better then some people are saying. And now as there is only 2 races left in supercross. I love all the haters that have jumped on the train like we're you guy's not the one's saying he's to young there going to eat him up or he's only there because of Daddy's Money. No the kid puts in work like an adult and has showed the world it wasn't just Daddy's money he put the time the effort in for the goal of being one day. One of the best and now with 3 podiums and sitting 2nd in the points in the EAST. He has gained the respect from all the pro racers like when Hunter stuck up for him in Detroit when the reporter's we're trying bash him for racing his own teammate so hard in a heat race the kid just wants to win even if it's practice or a race or whatever it is Hayden is another once in a generation rider like McGrath, RC, STEWART, And the Lawrence brothers so sit back and just enjoy what this kid is doing..... DEEGAN TO THE FRONT!!!!!!!

I wouldn't even consider the energy drink sponsor thing a thing as far as dads gotta follow the son, look at redbulls media coverage a monster rider just won imagination, they cover everyone as equally in their hard enduro stuff and you have billy bolt and manny on eachothers stuff all the time and their sponsored by rivals as far as energy drink stuff and show up in eachothers content all the time.

Brian has been with monster for 20 years, you’re not throwing away that relationship, especially when all three of them are monster. That’s gotta be too two biggest deciding factors. I’m not even saying Brian would have to leave monster because haiden would have Red Bull with KTM, but it’s about them having two of the biggest competing sponsors pitted against each other in their family. Monster has been huge for their family for such a long time. I honestly think the monster sponsor was one of the biggest factors, regardless if it will ever be talked about
@teavstravel
@teavstravel 2 жыл бұрын
@@atamagashock exactly what I was thinking. Also, while Haiden is doing great, this is a big step/decision to move to pro, and at a young age. The big difference with him vs any other rider stepping up for teams is he already has the family brand and social media exposure and following to rival any of the current leading pros.

Malcolm always had the talent, he just didn't take amateur racing seriously because he had no interest in being pro growing up. I like Hudson, but right now he doesn't have the ability to get to that level. That may change if he starts to take it seriously but it'll take a lot more work, he doesn't have the natural ability of his brother. I don't see him being a pro but if he does it won't be at a factory level.

I'm an old Moto guy. Brian I don't think you have to explain yourself. I think you're doing exactly what anybody else would do. Problem is most dads don't do it. If they could they would but they can't so they don't. It's about Hayden. I never understood why guys like you can't say how much money the difference was from Ktm and to Yamaha. It would probably shut everybody up. Because all anybody cares about is money. And I hope the Metal Mulisha gig with Larry and Jeremy is okay. I am with you guys all the way

DirtBikeTV probably had a good amount to do with the 350 success because they actually put a specific use in mind for it instead of people just thinking that hey its the bike that is 100cc less than the real bike. DirtbikeTV really explained at least to me that it really comes down to a more nimble bike that is easier to throw around in tight situations. All the while backing up the motor and preaching the biggest change in the flagship 450's and the new 350 comes down to weight not power.,

I posted this same question on Deegan's channel...any help here? Psyched like everyone else to see what's next, congrats on the ride, all that hard work is paying off & now the real work begins. That being said, what comes of Caleb now? I may have missed it, it's impossible to watch everything, but on Deegan's or here I haven't heard mention of Caleb & his future. I haven't heard any thanks or accolades to him & he's a huge reason Haiden is where he is today, I'd think we'd hear more about him. I'm not hating by any means, just curious. Does he stick around & help Huckson? Does he move on entirely to new adventures? Does he stick around & help Haiden with the Yamaha team? I'm surely not the only one wondering about Caleb. Thanks to anyone that can help me out here.

Just want to back that up some, and add a bit as well, even though I’m not a 4t guy, (not a hater, love all bikes, but my style suits 2t) as found that out about 8 years ago when I did a demo day actually did a couple back to ack consecutive years and again in 2017/18 but I was always keen even then on a 350, age and size etc etc the usual reasons people talk about going to a 450, but I knew from experience of riding and racing for many years I didn’t need a 450 nor did I want a 450, I wanted to ride and if race it was for fun (always be competitive but fun) and also a safety factor, off road many locations here are remote and also there is always a unknown factor in the bush and forests, tracks here can vary and conditions and riders on track etc are as unpredictable these days as the bush is. Anyways after demoing the whole range 250/ twice, 2 350x XC & EXC a 450 (forced to try peer pressure) the 500exc, (was my fav 4t actually) but not fun, but has a place for various types of riding here where rego etc legally on road is required, I went back to a 250 2t surprisingly for me it was like I’d never stepped off a bike, like putting back on my favourite well used AXOs from the 80s or 90s. I know have a YZ 250 (2t) YZ125 (2t) have a 22 YZ125 coming. Point is thought I’d ask if you have seen or watch other forms of off-road racing, eg I follow MX, US, AUS and NZ, I follow HardEnduro, did follow WESS covid force it to fold and EnduroGP I have followed since the 90s as well, back in the day we raced MX one weekend SX another, cross country the next, then it’d be another MX event then an Enduro, or 6 hr race or a Iron man 2 day event, MX was always my pure dirt diet, but it always gave us new places to race and new people to meet and we rode and raced for love of it, so event didn’t matter it made us better riders and people I believe and was allot of fun on and off the tracks. WESS and EnduroGP though, just for those not familiar, These are the senior class’s there are multiple junior and women’s class’s as well Enduro GP consists of 3class’s E1, E2, E3 and E GP. Enduro 1 (E1) is any cc 2t or 4t up to 250cc capacity. Enduro 2 (E2) is 4t only 250cc up to 450cc so any bike from and in between these CC ratings Enduro 3 (E3) 250+ cc to 450+ cc 2 or 4 stroke Enduro GP Rankings based on overall standings (E1, E2, E3) Each class has a winner and an overall event winner and eventually a World Champion Enduro GP is an overall winner of all 3 class’s combined as they race timed over the same courses throughout the season, so an overall champion can be crowned, like WESS was, it allowed different bikes technologies and capacities to be used, though unlike WESS (World Enduro Super Series) in EnduroGp you must select a class and that’s your class and bike type CC for the season. Point is all 3 class’s compete for an overall World Champion regardless of CC /bike, it’s unique . And it also highlights the point I want to make re a bike class in true competition where all things are equal as can be re politics manufacturers and organisers but unlike MX esp in the US it’s very transparent and for the good of the sport which has gone from strength to strength. Just to highlight one of the fastest riders in this world is an ex MXGP rider and KTMs wunnderkid, Josep Garcia he can choose any class or bike he wants, KTM will i’ve it to him, he raced in the E2 class he chooses the KTM 350 excF and on the fastest open course he’s almost untouchable and that’s against 450s, we know Antonio Caroli prob had his best years on the 350SXF in MXGP and people often forget that too, but watch this kid ride. I’m sure he won this years E 2 World Championship after 2 years away in the WESS series. that’s not the biggest thing though last years champion in E2 and E GP world champion multiple time double world champion was Steve Holcomb he won all of his titles on Beta’s Factory team choosing the Beta 350 Factory Race Edition (you can buy a Factory ed, not the Factory bike, but better model than KTMs factory bling parts) And for you Jase you may or may not remember Matt Phillips who was the last Australian to win on a 300cc 4t both the E2 class and the Enduro GP class in 2016 for Sherco Factory Racing team. 2017 by Steve Holcombe won on Factory Beta 300cc 2t double WC as he won E3 2018 by Steve Holcomb again both class’s for Beta E3/E GP overall 2019 were was won by another 2t interesting this one is unique for a couple of reasons, this rider won 2 World Titles as Steve did before him he is also a Brit and he did with the Beta brand but what’s different is he did it won the E1 World title (dominated more like it) on Beta’s 250 2t RR Racing the 2nd thing is it was not the Factory team, but the Satellite team, Beta Boano team and took the overall in EnduroGP taking out that title that’s against all 2t capacities and 4t capacities 250/350/450 and above 500s etc. Watch anything from these races and these aren’t trials speeds they are fast esp the French rounds but point is if people, think a 350 or less is less of a bike, this competition shows clearly a the bikes today 2t and 4t given equal opportunity to the rider are not just competitive but capable and this genre for weekend warriors shows regardless of whether weekend warriors are track only riders the the rider is more important than the power of the bike or the biggest CC, long I know but it’s a topic you bring up constantly re the 350 and I agree but I think it could be used further, esp for the weekend warriors, but also for budding riders, another key reason I am and a,says have been a 125 proponent and very against jumping onto 250fs early. Not gonna bring that Dangerboy, decisions been made, but I have made that before too. I’ll throw in a couple of links for the doubters.. Last rd of the 2021 E GP season, WC crowned. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nH2bgaWcZ5ppbK8 Wess 2019 García on a 350, most in top 10 we’re on 450, one 300. 2t in there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gobSp6aooMmkiK8 Just a ref for the speed here re bike and rider.

Brian showed class and experience by not dishing out a bunch of negative stuff about a past employer or sponsor. In an interview this will come back to bite you if you do this.

Thought... run a poll on your social accounts asking if people bought bikes influenced by the number 38? Yes? No? Question 2. Knowing where #38 rides now, are you more inclined to buy a Yamaha or KTM now?

Yeah kudos to Brian i think hes Good example of a motocross dad...they have their notoriosly bad image like tennis dads...an typical pro young athelete parents...they tend ti be a little over whelming...i have only one thing for hayden to do is watch Eli Tomac thru the really rough sections..an i just realized they are teammates i believe...but Eli is so good in the rough sections...Hayden needs a little of that..keep getting holeshots thats a great habit peace dont be in a hurry leave that 450 alone for a couple years..any one can go fast on the 450 it will make u lazy...master the 250 make it flow thru turns unless ur riding Supercross...

At the end of the day regardless of what any other person other than YOUR family thinks is unimportant. The thing is if you have fun are competitive and have a fun group of people to work with, Who could complain about wanting those things and anyone that does is just a jerk really.

Other than yes Yamaha has a good bike but I have a feeling a lot had to do with monster energy on this deal being made. With monster being a sponsor of brian hailey and haiden through the years
