I think it's pretty clear that Fischer struggled with either mental illness or some form of autism for most of his life. The fact that he was so arrogant did him absolutely no favors, but all these incidents speak to something deeper going on in his head, I think. It makes you wonder too. Hikaru is pretty temperamental, and while he has his fans, I think his reputation overall isn't the best. If Fischer was around today, would his dominance overshadow his outbursts like they did back then? Or would his reputation suffer a lot more for it?

I met Spassky personally and had a friendly chat with him for 30 minutes. I can confirm he is truly a down to earth very friendly gentleman.

I've met at least 4 world champions, and Spassky was by far the most humble and personable of them all. I operated a demonstration board for a lecture he provided, and afterwards he spent almost an hour sharing with me and a friend (both huge Fischer fans) some of his deep chess wisdom and humorous anecdotes. A true gentleman.

most world champs were drama queens, magnus refused to defend his title unless fide changes the format, he accused hans to cheat without any proof and left the tournament, Alekhine refused to defend his title against capablanca, lasker found an excuse to his loss against capablanca, he said i was sick and had fever, kasparov quits from Fide and played for chess association, karpov accused kasparov to put pressure on fide to elongate their first face off for chess championship,

@@aminsarabi5508 Imagine saying people who had 2 or 3 incidents are "drama queen". Oh no, Magnus didn't want to defend his title after doing it for like 12 years in a row. No way someone didn't want to spend 10,000 hours learning engine openings just to play 12 draws and decide the World Classical Winner over a game of rapid. And no way, he said someone is cheating? That never happens in any sport ever. Nobody will complain when a player in basketball claims their opponent double dribbled. Or in football complain when someone claims they got tackled wrong. But if you even think of believing in Chess that your opponent is cheating, you are a monster. Even though your chess ability is literally the greatest of any human mind and your guess would be the best out there. Let's compare that to Fischer who'd turn up late to half his games, complain after every person in the audience blinks and then leave the tournament halfway because his pieces were the wrong shade of black.

The explanation of what what happened at the tournament is unclear here. As I understand it, the tournament organizers arranged the schedule to accommodate the Jewish sabbath, but Fisher belonged to a sect that celebrated a different day of rest.

As usual, wonderful coverage of the game, I always enjoy the way you explain chess. However, I did not enjoy the reading part to be honest. I mean we can read ourselves, why have someone read for us in a video? What you could have done is summarise the important stuff, or create a sheet/diagram for it, or anything other than just reading directly from a long article.

Maybe you’re new to the channel. No disrespect to you because your comment was thoughtfully well written; but Antonio sort of has a thing where he does long form content in about 20-25 minutes. The first several years of this channel and probably the majority of content here is like this. He used to show photos from the chess game he was about to show, give a lot of backstory, etc. So this video really does fit with his signature method, in my opinion.

I would gladly watch a 1 hour video from agad no problem, and I personally think the backstories are a great addition to the games. I just didn't enjoy the long reading part. When he summarizes things without reading directly from an article it is much more enjoyable. Antonio is talented at story telling/commentary anyways.
