Ben thank you so much. For me it was the mid 1960's and my dad came home with a scroll saw such as the one you got along with a wood lathe and more. His fellow co worker had gone through a divorce and needed a place for his shop equipment and we were allowed to use them. When I saw your boys using the saw It brought me to tears with such wonderful memories. Lost my dad in 2015 and his working with us taught us so much. Blessings to you and your family and remember your time with the kids makes lifelong memories. My mom's last words to me in Palm Desert California was to keep making memories. I do so now here in Ohio with the grandkids following mom's directions. Thanks Ben for being you and doing all you do for family. Again Blessings, Harold

ShopSmith. My Dad had a ShopSmith in his basement workshop. An absolutely fascinating machine. I learned how to use the lathe feature when I was quite young and made my own chess pieces (probably in some box somewhere...) Unfortunately, I was not in a position to take it over when he retired and downsized. But, fortunately, a very good friend of mine was and bought it from him and that was well over 40 years ago. We're both retired now and his son has it now in his home workshop. Maintenance has been done, but the motor on that thing is still going strong. It's bittersweet (mostly sweet) to know and occasionally see that old workhorse continue to serve. This seems to validate the statement - they just don't make them like they used to.

Love that anvil you have by the door. It looks just like my dad’s. He was a horseshoer and also a pretty fair straight up blacksmith when it came to doing iron work. His anvil had a hole in the middle of the bottom so that a stob could be left on a stump and the anvil dropped down onto the stob to hold it in place. It was given to my dad when it was about 25 years old and he had it nearly 50 years. My older brother, also a horseshoer and pretty fair blacksmith, has it now and it’s still in use after 75 years.

Hey, I caught the video from the Fit Farmer and something you said caught my attention. So, I just have to share what I learned from the old timers here in my town. Use lime, either powdered or pelleted, to kill that odor around your farm animals. It works so well and is a cheap fix for a smelly problem. Have a terrific day!
@tommielourogers4327
@tommielourogers4327 2 жыл бұрын
Just be aware that the lime will change the ph of your soil, so if you plan to later plant in the area that they animals are now preparing, you will need to get a soil test done and make sure that the lime will take you in the direction that you want to go in.

@@tommielourogers4327 I do know that, but this is just for where the critters are running and to keep the smell down. Here, we use lime to change the ph of soil around the oak trees, if we want grass and not sand. Thanks for the advice…🙂. Have a great evening.

Not only was it great to see you had a new upload, the content was wonderful! You reminded me of how much fun it always was to find and recondition old sewing machines, from treadle machines to much newer ones. Like you, my mom started me down an evolving road when she taught me how to sew. First lesson was how to maintain and adjust the machine. That led to working on VWs and that led to computer building, rebuilding, and Windows to Linux conversions. It was such a joy to watch you give that old saw all the TLC it had missed out on for decades! ~ In other news, thanks for the tip with uneaten oatmeal! I've often made extra grits in order to chill and fry slices up later; never thought of doing it with oatmeal. ~ Buggie is growing like a reed and is even more gorgeous than her older brothers... who are no slouches! @juliebaker6969
@juliebaker6969 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's the problem with the modern stuff, planned obsolescence. You can't sell them another one unless this one wears out. In the last 7 years we've had 3 microwaves, 4 toasters, 2 toaster ovens, 4 coffee pots, 2 soda streams, and 4 crockpots. But we're STILL using my mother-in-law's 60+ year old roaster that they got as a wedding gift. To be fair though, the soda stream didn't self destruct, they just changed the bottles and CO2 tanks so that the new ones no longer FIT the old model.

When I turned 82 I gave my jigsaw, chop saw, and drill press to my daughter and her husband. He was trying to become a carpenter. So I had him clean out my garage. I still have a Craftsman table saw and a Harbor Freight Lath. He will inherit them when I die. We old guys hold on to the tools as long as we can. You found some good tools on that trip. The old jigsaw cleaned up real good. I am sure the table saw will clean up well also. I hope the motor is in good shape. Missing a belt is an indication of maybe a bad one. When I was born Dad had bought a piece of land and was building a barn on it. He had bought a lot of his tools and saws. He also worked on cars, trucks, tractors and did body work and painting on the side as well. He worked in a rubber factory so he was busy mom worked in a candy factory! He started our home and finished the basement for us to move into. I was around 2 by then but his tools were used to build that home and helpy grandparents build their home. Then we moved to MN on a Dairy farm and had a huge beautiful home but the kitchen He worked on to remodel I learned by 8 to use a lot of them to help him. His table saw is 67 yes. Old now but solid steel and heavy I still love to do wood working! Now my son is remodeling his home but hope when the time comes he will keep dad's saw at least! That saw has helped build and remodel so much even remodeling my home I sold as well. I wanted a scroll saw most of my life but had to do with a jigsaw my son now has. But I still have my drills and saws. The smell of oil and wood is unmatched! I also learned to work on most all there is to engines, transmissions, tractors, small and huge desil engines and all the welding needed to run a farm. Yes a girl can do the same as boys, but we weren't met to do so I'm pretty broken down now but that smell of wood! By the way my son is him incarnated he workes full time 4 days, farms and has a Logging business as well so what I passed on to him he is teaching my Grandsons. And my Daughter she learned as well and my Grandkids are learning too!

Great video! So happy you bought two great tools that will meet your family’s and homestead needs. Could you detail which steps you needed to take to rehab and preventative maintenance to restore your shop machines. Ty vm and great video. Ty vm.

I think the in-home version of this is the old Singer sewing machines. You get one, you get the rust out and oil it up, figure out how the bobbin works, maybe get a new belt. Then your sewing something dust ruffles, drapes and aprons on a machine that's older than your grandmother.

My favorite feature of your vlog is your amazing handiwork - cutting logs into shelves, your pig non-catapult, restoring that old jigsaw. Amazing. God has really blessed you with those skills!

Early version of Delta/Rockwell home equipment. A doozy. Should last a coupla more life times! If the saw doesn't have metal adjustment handles...they are available...well worth the money.

Fried eggs are my go to for breakfast. My wife can cook them better than I can. Ok fried oatmeal we have got to try. Would love to shop at that old time store. We have the same table saw. 1 1/2 hp motor and solid steel too. Love it.
