I watched the whole tournament for Canada and I was happy to see Joe Thornton to play this time after not getting a chance for 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. I never thought Finland would get this far for the Championship game vs Canada, they got Selanne, Koivu, Ruutu, Numminen and red hot Kiprusoff. The Championship game was just a day before my 18th birthday and boom on my birthday my dad was hospitalized due to breathing problems and the NHL officially went to a lockout. "Hockey is the best sport" fact #1: Steve Yzerman withdrew himself from Canada's roster from this tournament because he felt that, due to injuries, he wouldn't be able to play at the level needed and would be taking a roster spot that should go to a player better able to contribute. The player that was then added in his place? Vincent Lecavalier (hard to believe he wasn't already on the roster, actually, but true).

Lecalvalier scored a big goal, the big goal,in the semis, wasn't it? ...Maltby, Draper & Thornton, if I recall correctly, were a very good line... JayBo (who played on our World Jr Team at 16, if memory serves) looked very good in a TC uniform, as per usual...Scott Neidermayer was Scott Neidermayer...Jovocop looked like he didn't belong... Brodeur got hurt & missed a game... BUT they don't beat the Czechs in semis, without Luongo.. .Also, on the other side of the pond, Czechs destroyed Swedes, and Swedish fans, still hurt from their meltdown , 2 years earlier, in Salt Lake City, really vilified their 'over-paid' stars, their words not mine... Brutal, brutal tourney for Tres Kronors...
