The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is back in Toronto after a two-year pandemic hiatus, and with its return, small businesses that struggled with the closure are back.
With revenue going from 100 to 0 when the Exhibition closed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, being back at the CNE this year is extra-special for patrons and especially the small family businesses passed down from generation to generation.
“As much as this is a generational business for me and a family business, it’s also something that is an experience that generations have gone to the CNE and enjoyed,” said Sam Scanga, owner of several food booths at the CNE he runs with his family, referring to attendees’ love of his Primo Spaghetti 1.99. "It's part of everybody's history."
Global's Alexia Kapralos and Katherine Cheng have some of their stories.

Insanely expensive now, 25 dollars just to enter then 75 dollars if you want a chance to go on rides, it gets way to packed for the space they use. A lot of emphasis on beer gardens at the entrance, not as fun now, not like when I was a kid.

The Carlsberg Pavilion has two pinball machines in it. Before then they actually had a pinball arcade at the CNE. I was world pinball champion many of those years. The last time I was at the CNE it was 10 bucks to get in and a lot of people jumped the fence and got in for free.😁

The CNE held a snooker tournament that the late Alex "Hurricane" Higgins won defeating Cliff Thorburn in the final for the $5,000 first place cheque. Attendance was free those were the days. Kirk Stevens was also in the tournament. I know both Kirk and Cliff both of them live one city over from me.😁To date they never made a movie about the life of Alex "Hurricane" Higgins. He's my countryman.

I got barred from more games than anyone else alive at the CNE. Snooker balls on a pool table... barred. Plastic house darts... barred from all dart games. Putting... barred from all putting games. Shooting games... barred Some game where he bowling ball has to be rolled but not fall off either side... barred If they had gambling on pinball I'd own the entire CNE Former 6 time world pinball champion, former 2 time world youth mini-putt champion. Putted on the Professional Putters Association. Bowled on the PBA tour, world class darts and snooker player.😁

the labour board should be aware of how grimy the carni people are. they make the workers work crazy hours a day. min wage. no overtime. every day for a month. on top of all of that, don't pay them until the very end. which then, they don't even pay proper amount of hours. this has been going on for years
