I've almost ruined my love for boating being a marine mechanic, but my hatred for the idiots on jet skis that think their stupid little jet drive turd is somehow going to be a race for my outboard high-performance tunnel hulls and Pad-vee type go-fast boats are infuriating. They'll come right at me like they're going to run right into me, then try to race me, which doesn't go far when I can get to 100+MPH faster than just about any car on the streets..

This channel is great. I remember launching my dad's little boat at ramps in central Rhode Island. Though it was on a much smaller scale, we saw the same flavor of incompetence honed by idiocy that's likely a common denominator at all municipal (and private - opened to the public) boat ramps worldwide. And they're just as entertaining to watch back then as these are now.

We were all new at boating at one time. I’ve always been a observer. Before I get into something I really study what it’s all about. That’s the approach I used when I first started boating back in the late 80’s. I watched the Captains that really had control and studied what separated them from people like in this video. I then would go out during the week when the boat traffic was minimal and practiced docking in a area where no one was at. My goal was to learn how to single handed handle my boat without bumping into things. Once you learn it’s a simple process and you can make the boat do the work. The one thing that you can never get use to is the stupid unpredictable things people will do. Just give them room and awareness is your best defense.

My wife and I would look pretty damn smart. I’m good at backing up the trailer and she’s great at aligning the boat with the trailer and driving on. We are both smart enough to prep the boat for launch before backing into the water. If the boat starts (sometimes it’s cantankerous) we can launch in 3 minutes. We enjoy the look of bewilderment of the less-skilled weekend warriors.

Everyone sucked at backing up at one point, even you. Just have some patience and compassion for one another. It dont take people that long to get out of the way. When I see some dick bag looking like he is in a big hurry to get is boat in the water, it just makes me move slower. The ramp is for everyone, not who has nicest or biggest boat.
@mattsmith3001
@mattsmith3001 3 жыл бұрын
@@SoutheastanglerLLC actually no, your logic saying we sucked at one point is dumb. I didn't have this issue when I backed in my first damn time. It's basic boating etiquette not take up the entire boat launch, so yes, go practice in a parking lot before holding up the line like a jackass. Take your liberal nonsense elsewhere.
@nicholasrv8834

@@SoutheastanglerLLC i have a 23 foot cuddy on tandem axle trailer. i took the rig and the truck to an empty walmart when i first got it, backed in and out a couple dozen times. i learned how to launch my boat solo, hook it to the ramp and get my truck out super fast. Never had an issue. You also have to ask yourself how much alcohol have these people consumed while out on the water. Regarding the 2 jet skis, it would have taken the guy driving the MB SUV less than 1 minute to straighten his truck. he didn't give a damn. You are indeed correct. The ramp is for everyone, it just makes boating so much more pleasant when people have manners
@SoutheastanglerLLC
@SoutheastanglerLLC 3 жыл бұрын
@@nicholasrv8834 manners work both ways. Still people need to have patience. If someone's not ready and your in a big hurry then go to the next ramp. Well it's not a law that soon as you buy a boat you have to go practice in a parking lot. That's not something you see alot of people doing. I live on a actual island and have been on the water my whole life. People just need to chill out at the ramp. If someone is taking their time I just move to next one. I dont need my day or mood on the water ruined by my lack of patience. All people do is get hot headed and spend all day pissed at the world on the water. Most people's true colors come out at the ramp. Just like this channel exploits the down fall of fellow man at the boat ramp so they can fill their pockets. Its sick that this is even a thing / job. There is to much rushing at the ramps and everyone turns into a big goof and gives a reason for some dick bag to record you for their financial success.

No one sits on my boat during a docking evolution. Everyone is assigned a job with instructions how to do it and what's expected - long before we get to the dock. Approaching a docking situation like this, I would have fenders deployed BOTH port and starboard, and dock lines rigged BOTH port and starboard aft *and* midships, with a bow line forward leading off the pulpit. The crew (if there is one) has the dock lines in hand on the approach. No one jumps off the boat until it's secured at the dock. If your vessel has a midships cleat at the natural pivot point, a midships line to a piling (first) will hold it well enough to take the time to get over a bow and stern line. A midships line is how I dock when single-handing.

Grew up boating on our small local lake. Was pulling our old 74 Larson to the lake behind my 76 Cutlass every weekend of the summer practically since I got my license. I guess I just had a natural ability. I, as a teenager, often helped other people get their trailers backed down. Once in a while someone would look at me in doubt, but all the regulars knew I knew what I was doing, and would vouch or me. Saw scenes like this often... Especially holiday weekends where it was busier than usual, and many had drank a few beers.

I recall putting a boat in the water as a young lad. There were still a number of helpful people in those long past days. Practicing in a vacent parking lot helped. Still, for all the help, fools could easily be found. There is nothing that matches one of them putting the throttle down in a shallow, no wake zone. I never completely mastered steering a boat trailer through tight spaces but I learned enough about swearing to last a lifetime.

Used to own a Yamaha jet drive boat (and loved it). But they are extremely difficult to control at slow speeds. And they are just as happy to go sideways as any other way. Two of those were Yamaha's.

I’m amazed at the number of boat operators in Fl. that have no idea wtf they’re doing.!!

Blocking 3 lanes on the ramp and didn't care they were holding people up. Looked like their first time ever backing a trailer, first time ever launching a ski, first time ever seeing a boat ramp. But hey, it's all about them and no one else. It's a good way to get thrown out.

I'm glad someone is talking on the video, the other guy that video boats would do better saying something about the video, besides the writing

Wholly Molly that boat ramp looks dangerous, if that triple engine Contender slipped it would take out the jet ski launchers.
