You mentioned 80's sound, funny, I hear Steely Dan 73-77. It has that Fagen/Becker jazz/rock production value and I hear Gadd, Carleton & Dias. Just a brilliantly written song and performance. Thanks for the reaction.

Great review of the lyrics, certainly much to consider and discuss. Koiai are establishing a recognizable sound. Every song is a banger !

Thank you for checking this out. I have been following most of these musicians for some time (since some of them were little kids), and its wonderful to see them together. Most exciting new band I've seen in some years. I hope they stick together for a long time.

Great song. It is amazing to see Hazuki doing a different style of music, like seeing another side of her.

Wakazaemon is not an official permanent member of the band. She played with them when they recorded their live BluRay and was the recording bassist for some of their most recent songs. She is phenomenal, for sure. I would love to see more of her with KOIAI and East of Eden. KOIAI has released two EPs and announced a third EP is on the way.

Super group. This sounds to me in the same vain as Steely Dan and Toto just putting Koiai in the same sentence as these two is all the praise needed .I am following them closely they are just superb . Great reaction look forward to see more Koiai and Nemophila from you.

Even though you can most definitely hear Wakazaemon on the bass, she's not on the video because she's not an official member of the band, she's "just" a support bassist.

Hi from France: Wakazeamon is a support musician, she is not credited as a full member of the band. And precisely, I think that this band is missing a regular bassist. On this song, Kanade's playing is simply spectacular, all in subtlety and complexity which gives a very 70's color to this song even more than the guitars (which are superb, but we knew that!) Koiai, the Elegant, the Student, the Librarian and the Taciturn... Enjoy !!!

When this band does even pop/rock, it is still done so well, and cathy as well. Everyone thinks verse intro is same as ACDC , but it is moe Queen, but exactly same , no. not legally actionable , as they say in the biz. Perfect pop/rock hit for US, if they would let them in the gate. One Way Or Another (no not that 80's song either.) > kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIKymaCFbKaZaKs

love this band. i just wish wakazaemon was in the mv as she is one of the best bassists out there. li-sa-x and hazuki together are brilliant - add kanade and the smooth vocals of ex-ironbunny kotono and you have a band that could go far.

The line “come see me,” makes me think of Mae West. It’s a great song. KAKANDE’s drumming scrambles my brain. For something completely different, try A NEW PICTURE (live).

This band was also formed by a producer who brought together players with high levels of technique, right?

No, that's not right. Here's what really happened: A few years back Li-sa X recorded her first instrumental solo album "Will" for Sony Records. The record company then pulled together a band for her called simply "Li-sa X Band". It consisted of Li-sa X, Hazuki who had supported her when playing live in the past and some singer called Rina. They didn't have a neither a drummer nor a bass player. This failed to attract attention and fell apart. Hazuki joined Nemophila and I have no idea what happened to Rina. At some point Li-sa X ran into Kotono when doing a radio interview. The two clicked and ended up doing cover of "Twice Better" which they recorded all them selves and put on KZbin. Shortly after that they teamed up with Hazuki and put out a cover of Polyphia's ABC. It was somewhere around this time they decided to form Koiai. The first song they did as Koiai is called "Make you regret" which they also posted on KZbin with a homemade video. At this point something unexpected happened when Guthrie Govans manager reached out toLi-sa and asked what she was up to these days. When she said that she was working on assembling a new band called Koiai they ended up being invited to play in India alongside the Aristocrats. Despite not having any songs, no drummer and no bass player they accepted anyway. With short notice they recruited Li-sa X's brother to play the bass, and hired Kanade to do the drums. Once back in Japan Kanade ended up joining permanently, and they started making music more seriously. So far they have put out two EPs and one Blue-Ray/DVD from their first official live concert. All of them self-published as an independent band. They write, arrange and produce everything more or less by themselves. For the live show they hired Wakazaemon to play the bass and she will also be appearing on their third EP that will be released on November 20th.
