I have not been to a hair dresser/stylist in over 20 years. I have never met a stylist that treated my hair as well as I can. I do not trust anyone in my hair other than myself. I have shared on here before that I re-started my haircare journey in April 2023. My hair has grown from shoulder length to almost waist length in that short time and my hair is healthier than it has ever been in my life. I did one trim in April 2023. Then I dust my ends every 8 weeks to keep my ends healthy. As long as my ends are healthy, I do not see the need for anymore trims.👍

Notice how the stylist isolated the nape area and cut it separately. Trust me if it was a regular stylist, they would have wanted to hack off ALL her hair to the shorter length of the nape hair. They would have wrongly assumed that all her hair is breaking! And this is why just doing the white background and just cutting all the hair straight across is not always the right solution. It's why I don't trust a lot of hairstylists with my hair either.

I agree with you 100%, that the health of the hair is more important than the length. My hair journey has had its ups and downs. And at one time I was only focus on the length. Now I realize healthy hair will get you to the length you want much quicker and it will retain the length. 👍🏽🤗

Yes, I KNOW MY HAIR...as of February 2024, I have sworn to never let another hairdresser touch my hair. I had full thick, natural 3C hair that my hairdresser decided to ruin by running chemical through it, pretending it was conditioner. I let her know I would never return again. My main regret is not taking care of my own hair all along the last three years, which would have saved me $$$$, and not terminating her services before she decided to get "brand new". I've ordered my first Chebe Butter and am very impressed. I have to grow out the damaged chemical and gradually cut off. Feeling empowered, richer, and look forward to my beautiful, full, healthy head of hair again.... I LOVE yours. Gorgeous.

@@anonymousgirl799That was low down! That reminded me of when I had a jheri curl(80s) and my hair had grown down to my shoulders and was nice and thick. I went in for a touch up. My hairstylist decided I needed a trim(she cut it). When it came time to put the product in, she put relaxer on my hair. My hair started coming out in clumps and I had to shave and start over. I went to another stylist got a trim and told her my negative experience with stylists being scissor happy. How about she CUT all the hair in the back of my hair into a taper like the old Halle Berry style! Without my permission or knowledge until it was too late to not let her finish it. That was over 20 years ago. I’ve NEVER gone to another stylist again! My hair is flourishing under my own care. I wish you a full lion’s mane at the end of your journey.

The chebe really did its thing! I have a nape issue, mine was due to ill health my nape looked like I had shave it. Slowly but sure it is coming back I treat it totally different to the rest of my hair and separate it when I wash and braid it. I stopped oiling my scalp it was causing me issues my scalp would itch, it was sore or I'd get pimples on it. Since stop oiling my scalp is fine it's never dry and it doesn't flake. I still oil my hair just not my scalp my hair is flourishing and coupled with washing it every week or every two weeks. One thing I will worn you against is the coconut please do not use it on your scalp or hair it is number 4 on the comedogenic scale and will block your pores and can give you scalp issues. Leave the coconut oil for cooking.

@@LivingInTheShade Hello! The Chebe has been working wonderfully! Keeping the nape area separate will be important and I am excited to see the progress. I am so glad you have found a solution and I am happy your health is getting better. Oh no ! Lol coconut oil and I are not friends. I learned this the hard way it literally sat in my hair. @@KlassicallyKept Coconut oil made my hair stiff and rough, never again. I use sweet almond but I chose it in error I should have bought grapeseed oil which is zero on the comedogenic scale. I use castor oil on my ends. The difference in my hair is massive. I thought you said one of the oils in the brown glass bottle had coconut oil in it that's why I mentioned it, but knowing me a probably heard you incorrectly. I'm really enjoying your chebe journey, can't wait for the next update.

Thank you for showing us this journey about your hair situation. I was able to use my Revair on my hair and realized I really need a trim. It's just hard trying to find someone in my town who does natural black hair. My last trim I blew my hair out with a regular blow dryer, went to Supercut. This lady combed my hair flat and trimmed the end, she d❤idn't section it out or anything and gave me the mirror and asked " Hows that?" Mind you, I injured my shoulder, I was already hurting from blow drying my hair before I went there. I told her you didn't section my hair, she said yeah I did. The only reason I didn't act out is because I was freaking wearing my job T-shirt and it's well known in my town. I'm going to have to take a trip to my hometown and get it done the right way. 😂 I should take this video and show that lady this is how you cut hair.🤷‍♀️

This video is right on time. I just gave myself a very light press and realized I need to cut a lot off. I’ve been slowly cutting my hair after some really bad postpartum shedding. This will be one of the biggest cuts I make and my hair will be the shortest it’s been in a long while. You reminded me why I’m doing it 😊. I want my hair to be healthier and thicker. I noticed a big difference years ago when I increased the frequency of my trims. Can’t wait to get my hair back.

I started using the chebe grease this week. I am going to use this for 3- 6 months to see how it detangles and reduces the hair breakage. I like the way it smells. The two strand twist also seems to be less stressful on the hair than the cornrows, I normally wear so I am also giving this a try 😊 for a few months as well to see if I notice a difference in length. My hair thickness is not an issue, but my hair length seems not to grow past 9 inches. I need to find new hair dresser, mine retired and I don't trust anyone else but her to do my hair. She taught me so much about how to take care of my own hair. But I don't trust myself on trimming my hair.

I had a similar issue in 2019. I also had breakage from using a bonnet that had a rough lining on the inside. I’m a back sleeper and the breakage was right on the back of my head between the crown and the nape. The breakage and SSKs were crazy. I cut it all off but the two different lengths in my hair looked weird when I did twist outs and especially wash n gos because there was just a short section in the middle. At the beginning of lockdown I wound up cutting all of my hair up to collarbone length to match. It was the shortest my hair had been since I’d done the big chop in 2015. Happy to say it’s all grown out very nicely.

I always wear my bonnets either inside out or fold the rims in on themselves because I’d noticed some extra sticking when I wore them the correct way. I definitely noticed an improvement after this. Later, i switched to looser bonnets that I pull onto my forehead (with frequent changes and washes to prevent breakouts) are basically held in place by my sleep mask. I would ultimately like to move to satin pillowcases as well n

This is why I am so grateful to the stylist that I saw in January. If it were not for her I would have never discovered this because it never crossed my mind. The bonnet that I showed, I wear under my headwraps which I tie pretty tight. But now looking back that does not mean the elasticated bonnet did not have the potential to move.

NOTE ON SCALP CARE PRACTICES Just had to share a caution that the scalp does not need coatings of oil to thrive! The follicles do not need external oils to thrive! Our natural sebum substances produced through the follicle onto the scalp does all the nourishing needed for the scalp. I would absolutely hate to see you experience scalp disorders because of overuse or unnecessary use of external oils that you’re leaving on the scalp. I’ve seen hair care experts and Ayurvedic fans agree that use of oils can offer benefits as long as the oils are WASHED OUT RELATIVELY SOON after application. Soon, as in hours - not left in for days and days. Hope this adds to your exploration of good hair care practices. ~ happy growing 🤲💕

Your hair is beautiful! I've always bought my bonnets from drug stores, beauty supply stores, etc.and they've always been just smooth, silky feeling satin including the "band" part that goes around your hairline. I have tailbone length hair that I've kept healthy and full for two decades myself (no more salons) and always have a bonnet on at home. Then a few months ago I was buying a few things from the place you mentioned and decided to look at bonnets as well. All the top results were bundle packs of 2 or 4 in really pretty fabrics and colors at good prices, but I noticed they all had thick, ribbed bands in a rough looking material. I thought, I hope people aren't actually buying these because that's going to ruin their hair! They also had people who you would not expect to be wearing bonnets modeling them. So I think the problem is that these sellers are just jumping on a "trend" of making bonnets as if they're a fashion item without understanding what they are really for and that they are supposed to protect and be gentle on hair, particularly type 4 hair.

Hello! I'm sorry to hear about the communication issues you had with your previous stylist. I understand how frustrating that can be, especially when it comes to your hair. I currently live in Italy, but I've recently reconnected with my middle/high school stylist for my upcoming visit home. She’s amazing and still uses marcels! I also experience breakage around my nape, primarily due to vitamin deficiencies. Additionally, my scalp is very sensitive to oils, especially coconut oil, so I don't use any on my scalp. For hot oil treatments, I use Orilifestyle Khalila oil, a product from a UK-based company. The CEO and her daughter both have beautiful, healthy hair, and I highly recommend it.

Hello and thank you! Funny you ask. I know yall cannot hear our conversation but my stylist actually brought up Botana oil to me. I have never used it, so I dont want to speak on something I have not used. She showed my a pomade she bought from a farmers market and the smell was strong.

Thank you so much for the update. You are giving me the motivation to get a cut a know my hair needs. But, it's a struggle finding a good stylist where I live. Also, I would highly recommend Bhringraj Oil. It's a light consistency oil I use to massage my scalp. It doesn't add buildup/sit on my hair strands like castor oil does (at least for my hair). This in conjunction with adding chebe has drastically reduced my hair shedding and breakage.

Your hair looks really healthy regardless of the setback. 😊 Also, you might have a tree nut sensitivity/allergy if you're reacting to sweet almond oil.

Hello, I watched all the way through… and would like to see those other videos about the experience you referenced. I have mixed feelings about this video one being because it seems 3+ inches were cut, not trimmed. Yes it will grow back, but seems it may have been excessive unless you really want an all around even look (-the nape) and are happy with the results, which I did not hear in the video. Also, are you saying you will only finger detangle moving forward? Thanks
@KlassicallyKept
@KlassicallyKept 26 күн бұрын
Hello Angelica. Yes I am happy with the results. Yes more than 3 inches were cut off especially in the back. I showed the 3 levels that I saw and cut where I felt comfortable and where I could get the best results. I knew that even in growing my nape area out I would eventually would have to cut it. The cut instead of trim may have seemed excessive to some and that is why I showed the 3 levels. I want thick and healthy ends. The 3rd line where my stylist cut would allow for my hair to come in thick and even. Cutting at the 1st and 2nd line would have allow any split ends or thinning to continue to travel up my hair shaft, which is counterproductive to my goals. My 2 other trimming videos are in the description. I started exclusively finger detangling about 3 months ago, in this video I said that I would continue to do so.

My hair in my nape and crown area broke off due to going through the change of life and my hair got drier because of it. Therefore my nape is shorter than the rest of my tailbone length hair. The looser curls grows faster than the kinkier coily hair therefore it grows uneven. I'm thinking about cutting my hair as well to the thickest part of my length. I'm like you -health over length. I may do it when the cooler months come since my hair grows faster during the warmer months. The struggle is real 😔😏 Your hair looks fuller after the hair cut,Mya 🎉 Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾💜💐😀

Do you always stretch your hair with the revair every 2 weeks? Do you see a benefit in stretched hair over damp/shrunken hair when it comes to the chebe grease ?
@KlassicallyKept

I do not stretch my hair every 2 weeks. I prefer the chebe powder. I did the chebe grease this wash day because I have content to submit and the grease allows for more versatility.

From my experience covering the hair for bedtime is not necessary if a silk or satin pillowcase is used.

That’s crazy cutting. Just now. Why slant the cut. I don’t think she knows what she is doing. 😢. My opinion. Don’t knock me😂. The back not even straight. Ridiculous. She not getting my longhair. 😂. I don’t cut hair. I treat and moisture and go. 😅. You are a strong and smart person and God gave you beautiful hair. You will be fine 🎉❤

Hello. I cannot remember if I showed the bonnet in this video like I did the short , but it’s your classic black bonnet, but at the end there is elastic for a more secure fit. Other women in the community have suggested to turn it inside out .

Yeah, but stylists don't listen, or they don't understand, or they don't care! With very few exceptions! 😭 Sometimes I wonder if they are hating, sabotaging...😰 You cut too much off, IMHO. Keep going for perfection and you may find your hair getting shorter and shorter. There is beauty in imperfection.

Hello! I gave my reasoning in the video. My stylist cut off exactly what was asked of her and she Natural hair is imperfection and that is what makes it beautiful. There is a difference between imperfection and unhealthy.

I was just lost in how you were giggling around your old hairstylist. There is honestly no place like home. Is there a reason why you are leaving smoothing your hair with the brush now? It will grow in no time as she mentioned the same way it grew out.

Hello. We had so much fun catching up. I was there for over an hour. We talked about everything! No brushing, just less manipulation. When I washed my hair this past Monday ( July 1). I used the chebe grease instead of the powder because I had some content to deliver and I found just by smoothing with my hands my twists were still fine. I cant wait to see what the next 3 months holds.

Of course ask a professional for their opinion but I think you should consider cutting the rest of your hair the same length as your nape for the overall health of all of your hair. It will grow back in no time and it will come back fuller and healthier. Absolutely no harm meant just a thought. ❤️

Hello Christina. My hairstylist is the professional. Yall cannot hear the conversation, but I was there for over an hour and we spoke about my hair and of course we had to catch up lol. I asked her about just cutting the nape area and she said that is fine. She told me that I know my hair and I take good care of it. If she knew that I was not going to take care of it or not be as attentive she would have suggested to cut the rest.
