It's because the track plays twice, the second time with different instrumentation. It's the same thing as N64 Rainbow Road, where the first time the theme is played by the flute, and the second time is electric guitar

Arcade GP2 is peak Mario Kart to me

GP2 is the Mario Kart OST I have the most nostalgia for! This might be the first Mario Kart game I played (or DS), and it was one my first arcade racers with significant depth. I feel like the game mechanics would make for a hype competitive/speedrun scene if online connectivity were ever to sruface!

Slight spoilers! Despite these songs being (nearly) identical to the first Arcade GP game, Rainbow Cup did not come first this time, getting beaten out by Mario Cup. Even though it didn't the first time? Interesting.

There is no Rainbow Road in the arcades as it was replaced with Rainbow Downhill.
