i feel like people severely underrate how strong and effective of a deck you can make on a budget, and the budget constraints often force you to become really resourceful and creative in order to build a focused and powerful deck. high-powered budget decks are one of the most fun parts about commander. you can still be fairly competitive without spending hundreds of dollars on overplayed staple cards if you just know how to build a good deck. budget commander is awesome

Or you can just proxy the "overplayed staple cards" for very cheap...

I have a Satya energy deck that's only 100$ and the removal and ramp cards are very good, low cmc and effective. Draw engines are not that good, but the deck is limited in that way and to energy strategy. Overall works perfect except when you don't get a energy engine on board for a few turns.
@xxhellspawnedxxАй бұрын
@@quietninjariot That's very easy though. Anyone can proxy a cookie cutter, goodstuff-ridden deck. It won't feel special for long, no matter if you've proxied it or actually invested the money in legit cards. On the other hand, it takes true chops in the deck building department to build on a budget, and more so, build really good decks on a budget, and from scratch. And when you get down to it, this is what it's about, isn't it? To be able to come up with and realise an original/unprompted concept?

I totally agree with all of this! A big reason I've been delving into more budget builds. I'm still 100% for proxies and love using them myself!

Agreed! I quickly fell in love with the deck while building it! He's a super awesome commander!

Gut with Veteran Soldier might be an even stronger pairing on a budget. 4x Impact Tremor triggers on each commander swing, Valor in Akros, Goldnight Commander, Starlight Spectacular, Ogre Battledriver, Skyhunter Strike Force (doesn't work directly with and off the created tokens but still strong in go-wide), Devilish Valet (grows to 16 from commander and easily one-shot with 1-2 more drops).

I have a Gut and Cultist of the Absolute deck. It’s $25 and a POWERHOUSE. It swings every turn w a 4/1 menace, and it has all the typical aristocratic cards, but Cultist makes Gut a Voltron threat too. Just an insane deck

I made a Pauper deck with Gut & Guild Artisan. GA provides you with mana ramp + a guaranteed artifact to sac every turn. I use "can't block" spells when I need safe passage for Gut, but the _real_ brutality is that I stuffed every red "Gain control of target creature until end of turn" card. What's better than sacrificing one of the two treasure tokens you get just for swinging? Well, sacrificing your opponent's commander, of course.

For Lazav, upgrade interaction and protection, and upgrade the creatures you copy. Maybe some eldrazi monsters!

Kaseto, no. Lets not do unblockable stuff, especially not for beginners. You'll get hated alot for playing it. Kutzil, yes! Very nice and great for beginners aswell. Yurlok, absolutely not. This whole deck falls apart as soon as yurlok is removed. He is the biggest ''remove me and my deck does nothing'' commander in the game. Do not recommend. Lazav, yes! Cute and grave hate is always handy to have. Gut/Leader, yes! Nice idea and definitely accessible to beginners aswell.

Why not just use proxies if you can't spend money on the real thing? You'll get better cards to play with and not have to resort to weaker cards to play a cheap deck.
@DylanMarkTwoАй бұрын
Sometimes it is fun to play the game with some constraints, not to mention how many game stores can’t allow proxies at wizards sanctioned events. But proxies can be a good option for some.
@deckdriverMTGАй бұрын
I'm totally for proxies, and I'll make videos with decks that become very expensive. Budget lists allow players to play with real cards at a more casual power level, and is quite a challenge for me in terms of deck building due to keep costs as low as possible. Most of these decks can be easily upgraded with "best in slot" kinda cards that are strictly better but just more expensive!
@quietninjariotАй бұрын
@@DylanMarkTwo It can be fun to play with some constraints but its more fun to play with expensive yet powerful staples instead of weaker cards and there are proxies out there that look like the real cards so it's a way to play proxies in Wizards sanctioned tournaments. Besides, there are many people using proxies in commander tournaments.
@quietninjariotАй бұрын
@@deckdriverMTG There are also cheap proxies you can get that look so real like real cards.
