“Disruption does not equal success” that’s a whole bar right there.
@joleaneshmoleane83588 ай бұрын
Yup! Lots of activists could benefit from learning that. In fact, when you’re this bad at activism (same happening with Just Stop Oil too) it actually just creates more resistance. People who were indifferent and even some who were supportive from the outset, assuming they’re critical thinkers, are more likely to resist the greater cause he claimed to be fighting for BECAUSE of dumb robot activists like him. Regular people are sick of people pretending and believing they’re doing something meaningful. We’re so sick of his self centered, fake activism that when the next guy comes along for whatever the next grievance is, we’re more likely to roll our eyes, tune the channel, mock, and just not take them seriously. He did more damage than he did good. In fact, I can’t think of a single positive and consequential change that was made bc of his activism. I know a lot of people who are now sick of racial and social activists forever though. Literally everyone I know. 🤷🏾♀️ To me, this is so obvious that I sometimes wonder if it was the plan all along; to make him and everyone who supported him look like fools.

Bro, that was the perfect take on the entire thing. Colin tries to play the victim, but he has been his worst enemy. No other player could ever get every NFL to give them a private workout, where you know he was guaranteed to be signed by someone. He throws it right in their faces with the utmost disrespect. He is begging now because the money from grifting off of racism claims is drying up. Flemlo is the most honest and fair dude on KZbin. You like most wanted dude to shine. He has turned his biggest supporters against him.
@criticaljacques22378 ай бұрын
It still kinda conveniently leaves out the fact that Colin did not start his pivot to professional activist and all the publicity stunts until he'd ALREADY lost his starting job to Blaine Gabbart after a prolonged intra-seasonal regression that saw his on-field performance decline rapidly. In one of his last games as a starter, dude literally couldn't manage to complete a single pass UNTIL THE FOURTH QUARTER of a game that was already out of reach and in garbage time by that point. How can any objective person consider this an unimportant or otherwise minor detail in the whole "OMG Colin is bravely risking it all to stand up for his principles" media-driven narrative. It's all just so disingenuous. Colin was likely embarrassed and afraid of losing his multitude of lucrative endorsements. So he acted in a way that allowed him to feel important and victimized... which would also make him a lot of money outside of the league he was already playing his way out of. Pretty smart, but he could never have pulled it off without the media carrying his water and lionizing him as a civil rights icon. As an aside, it's worth noting that as impressive as his rookie campaign was... he also walked into as ideal a situation as a young QB could ever hope for. His team was absolutely stacked. The 49ers were already undefeated at 6-0 or maybe even 7-0 when Colin got his first start (after Alex Smith went down with an injury)... and they boasted the NFL's premier defense. Patrick Willis was in his prime, that D unit was as fearsome and effective as the LOB in Seattle was in its heyday! At the end of the day, Colin deserves a lot of credit for his performance that season... but the hype train got a little too excessive too soon. Once NFL defenses had a decent body of Colin's work at the pro level to study and analyze on tape in preparation for playing against him, it was all downhill for the new superstar. Colin's struggle to make the necessary adjustments, his inability to adapt to how NFL defenses were neutralizing him ultimately resulted in a precipitous decline in his on-field performance. People seem to have forgotten just how bad things had got by the end of his time in San Francisco. Colin was awful and grossly overpaid for what he was bringing to the table. Racism didn't have a damn thing to do with it... 🙄
@zylee78 ай бұрын
@criticaljacques2237 I won't dispute much of what you said. Yes Colin had played himself out of the starting position. No I don't believe his intentions were even close to 100% pure, I don't believe he cared that much about improving life for many of the Black community. I also do not think he knew how much of a topic racism would become, especially after George Floyd's death. To say he knelt and his protests were all planned for him to get paid out millions of dollars for his stance on social justice is giving him too much credit. Prior to the COVID lockdowns and death of Floyd, there was no way for him to know what a huge topic that would become in our society. I'm not at all attacking you or your opinions. I am more just saying I disagree with one or two positions you have discussed.

The kneeling did ultimately kill his career, but we can’t act like it wasn’t already on the decline. Prior to 2016 he began to suffer a series of injuries, he started to get figured out by defenses and wasn’t as effective (even before San Fran lost a lot of key players) and he had even lost his job to Blaine Gabbert at one point. On top of that there were also reports coming out that he rarely studied game film. So you have a player who doesn’t read defenses well, is getting older with more injuries piling up, desires a large salary, doesn’t show much interest in attempting to adapt or improve his game, and is highly polarizing. The kneeling sealed his fate and was the last straw, but he very likely would have been out of the league within the next couple years anyway. The NFL has shown they don’t care about much as long as you can play football, Eric Reid was kneeling right by his side and he managed to find work after 2016. Kap was a talented football player, but his talent level didn’t outweigh the controversial or financial aspects for teams
@johnbradbury86108 ай бұрын
he also got 50 million dollars from Nike for kneeling. Nike of course uses sweatshop labor. He is no civil rights worker. he is what would happen if Kanye was a quarterback
@darthsilversith6678 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t even go as far as to say he was a talented player. He had 1-2 good years because he had all stars around him everywhere and a system built around him.. but after defenses figured him out and adjusted.. he went bust. A talented player can adjust how they play to stay relevant.. he was basically a one hit wonder and then cried when his 15 minutes was over.
@chonzen17648 ай бұрын
49ers have lucked out when it comes to young QBs in the draft. Now again they are in the same situation with Purdy. Its easy to have an elite team when your QB is on their rookie deal. As soon as Kap got the big money contract in 2014 the team went down hill fast because they had to jettison a lot of the parts to get under the salary cap. The biggest loss was the Ageless One Frank Gore. So much of Kap's production was because of Frank Gore. All of Kap's running was option and almost all of the passing game was play action. As soon as the other threat became Carlos Hyde defenses didn't have any trouble shutting down Kap.

(and they had Frank Gore at RB, Vernon Davis at TE, Joe Staley at LT, and Mike Iupati at G - all 1st team Pro-Bowlers in '13). 2015? 2-6. 2016? 1-10. In 2017 the Ravens were going to offer him a backup role to Flacco, but then Kap's girlfriend went on Twitter - and according to Ray Lewis - compared owner Steve Biscotti to a slave owner, and Lewis his slave - so Baltimore decided to 86 the offer.

The moment he lost his starting job, he all of a sudden became very social conscience. When I asked a group of sport reporters their opinion on Colin, they were very hesitant to touch that topic. Then he turned on his parents out of nowhere, this seemed off to me, seemed like he wanted to remain relevant. I constantly said, at some point, the world will see if he was real on his stance.

You summed it up perfectly: "Communicate effectively." Didn't do a good job in handling the backlash in terms of being called a Communist or a Socialist. He didn't have a long term plan, let alone resources. The ongoing problem with multiple movements is how do you make your message stick? How do you come across as someone who is not only well versed, but know how to handle detractors... Just a summary.

Colin was on the downside of his career. He tried to exploit people's emotions to prolong it. This had good and bad results. He made money but ended his football career. He became too much of a distraction and polarizing figure. He had good intentions and overplayed his hand. He's been out of the NFL too long. Besides I don't think he actually wants to play because he would have just been exposed as not being that good anymore and his whole agenda would be wrecked.

Let me refresh your memory. Kap took a team friendly deal with the promise that the team would keep all of their top players to make another run. Once kap signed, they immediately got rid of our top 2 receivers (crabtree & Boldin), our RB (Frank Gore), our tight end (Vernon Davis), our fullback (Bruce Miller) & 5 of our league best offensive lineman (Joe looney, Adam Snyder, Mike Iupati, Alex Boone, Johnathan Goodwin), on defense Patrick willis retired, bowman was out because of a leg injury & our star rookie linebacker Borland retired after one year and to top it off we lost our coach Jim Harbaugh. No qb or team was gonna perform good after all of that plus Kap was injured and required surgery in 2015. The whole organization was bad.
@kikiki45928 ай бұрын
@@calibuzz_ So, cream rises to the top, before the knee, his play had also fell off, he only deserved a team friendly deal, the market wasn't good for any QB that was avail, most good teams had their guy, and the teams who needed one, were not for the most part willing to over pay for a rebound guy, nor wanting to re-arrange an offense for his skill set. He had the talent, yet he never took it next level. Denver tried to get him to come their, but he wouldnt go, instead they got a broken down Manning and won, something he could of done, easily and then had the whole world by the hands. He didnt deserve the first blackballing at all, he deserved a 2cd chance, yet after the settlement and the slavery shit, not to mention his age. It is over for the guy, he's gonna be alright.

The AAF, the XFL, and I'm sure the USFL kicked the idea around, but whaddya know, he wanted 20 million to play in leagues where the league was barely worth that. Good video. I believe this is a good example of why athletes/entertainers aren’t t who we should follow for political issues. For a political movement to be successful it needs people involved that have an expertise in policy. The same way your doctor needs to have studied medicine, your lawyer to be well versed in law etc. Expecting someone who’s spent most of their time perfecting a sports craft to be a thorough leader is foolish on our parts. There’s plenty of folks/ grassroots movements out there that are doing the ground level work on a daily basis that athletes and entertainers aren’t capable of. They haven’t put the time in. Historically athletes/entertainers roles have been to fund the movement and refer fans/media to the movements leaders i.e Bill Russell, Ali, Kareem. They always made a point to reference the movement they were apart of. Athletes now days seem to be taking a more individual approach to political issues. Stop looking to athletes for political knowledge. They’re experts at their sport not politics.

Kaepernick had a few successful years but when he made his statement people forget he was a backup on his way out of the NFL. That what the people who think he’s being black listed from the NFL don’t understand. A team has no benefit from signing him because if they do he’s A.) most likely going to be a backup and B.) is going to get a lot of unnecessary media attention asking “why don’t you put him in? He should play.” And it’s going to be incredibly distracting for a team trying to win football games. All for a QB who probably isn’t very good to begin with

That's where I'm at as well. He was already sliding down on depth charts once he didn't have a team full of pro bowlers before he started his protesting. The unfortunate truth was that, as a player, he wasn't able to elevate his teammates and bring them to the next level, which is what you need to be able to do as a starting franchise QB. He was already on his way out because he couldn't do that and couldn't adapt to teams figuring out how to defend against him without top tier talent. Once the media circus came around him, it was over

Colin was drafted to a 49ers team that was making positive moves in upper management. In coaching. In draft selections and as an entire organization. Jim Harbaugh saw Colin's athletic traits and drafted him as a possible future starting QB. Once Alex Smith was injured, Colin did what was expected of him AND some. With a solid defense. Great special teams and well rounded offense. Jim made the decision to continue starting Colin over the now medically cleared Alex Smith. While the media was gushing over Colin's performance in the playoffs and super bowl loss. Colin allowed his ego to get the better of him. He spent less time developing his skills that he lacked and focused on his brand. He insisted on lifting in the gym. Doing comercials and wearing beats headphones. He began his steady decline in on the field performance. Every season his win/loss record got worse. His personal stats became worse. The the point he was benched and replaced by other QBs. Only after Colin became the back up did his protests start. Only after his politically motivated gf filled his head full of racial injustice SJW propaganda, did Colin Kapernick begin his grift. A grift that lead to his lucrative Nike contract. His settlement against the NFL and his documentary. Colin decided to make money as a professional victim. Not a professional quarterback.

Flem I love ya brother but he was the definition of a "one hit wonder" ... he had a couple good years, but he struggled to get the ball out quickly enough to be effective in most of the systems that made best use of his abilities. That running stuff is common now, it wasn't then so it definitely bought his team a lot of extra yardage and wins. But overall he just wasn't very good of a QB. And his kneeling? Sorry, but had he not done that, he would have been cut a year earlier. Kneeling out of spite cause he lost his job then claiming it is for social justice made it impossible for the team to cut him without looking like racist D-bags. Kneeling that game then claiming social justice - maybe it was, maybe it wasn't - made him more money in that last contract year than he stood to make otherwise. It was a hell of a smart move for a QB who's writing was already on the wall of a sky high ascension then a ton of bricks descension of a career that had nothing to do about race. His career was done before he knelt. Kneeling not only kept his team from being able to cut him and save cap space without looking like racist jerks, it made every other team out there have to think twice before signing him in case he tried something else just as shoddy to keep from getting cut. Plus the distractions it'd bring to camp. Then every interception the starter throws the news papers would be barking that Colin isn't being put in because coach XYZ is racist. It was a lose-lose. His career was already over, he blacklisted himself by backing his team into a corner when it served them best to cut him just so he could make his last contract years worth of money, and made every other team scared of signing him. Hell even the XFL and USFL were scared to touch that one and they could have used the publicity. The man did it to himself. As for the social justice message....one can agree with the message but still disagree with the delivery of said message.
