I'll state a few missed yet obvious points though. 1- Its 475$ vs 320$ if we being fair about going 2nd hand. 2- A PC is not limited to PS5 games. While a PS5 may have a few exclusives, there are hundreds if not thousands of games playable on PC but not on a PS5... 3- A PC is not ONLY a gaming machine. You won't be editing photos from your last trip on a PS5. Last point is important why? Because if you need to buy, upgrade and maintain a PC alongside your PS5 anyway, it may only need marginally better components to match the performance of PS5.
@ledocteur7701
@ledocteur7701 4 сағат бұрын
Games on console are also far better optimized than even very well optimized PC games, simply because you're optimizing for a singular machine with pre-defined hardware and software instead of a whole variety of different hardware and softwares, so the PC has by default quite a bit more weight to pull in order to match performance. Another important factor is the inherent fabrication cost of modularity, a PS5 has one metal/plastic "shell", all the components (apart from storage) are completely barebones if taken out, while each PC components (apart from the CPU) has to be self-contained, so you end up with way more metal and plastic that while necessary, don't contribute anything to the fully assembled build.

@@mcslender2965 Here, in Australia that is, you can pickup a 6600 for $50 cheaper then the A750. Which is only slightly less powerful then the A750. Up to the person in question of course, if you're a tinker then the A750 is a great card. But if you don't want to deal with its teething issues then the 6000 series is the way to go. In the US at least, the Arc A770 is cheaper than the 6700 XT (even if you go used) which matters a lot in a budget like this, but moreover I think the idea was to match (really beat) the 16gb of combined memory of the console, and the A770 is the only 16gb card cheap enough for this budget.

tbh I never understood what the fuzz was about. I always saw consoles as highly limited product. Sure, you'll see you occasional post that claims that "there's no point in having a PC if a console costs less" (mainly from console only players either way) - but exchanging capabilities of modding, better user experience, more games available and no subscription cost for just wanting to play online and talking on a slow peer 2 peer voice chat at basically no additional cost for the manufacturer isn't exactly something that sounds too great to me. If I ever would want a console again I'd just straight up let my PC start with Steam in Big Picture mode, hook it up to my TV and have a wireless keyboard & mouse for modding stuff and adding non-steam games to the steam library. Doesn't even matter if a PC costs 400 more.

If you want to get creative you can also play physical copies of games as well from older systems, Or go the less legal route through emulation. And don't forget the free games you can get often enough, I haven't paid Epic a cent but have over 300 games on my epic library with a new one (not always good) every week. As a personal example I have a game save of FFVII I've been playing since around 2001 that I've just never gotten around to beating. I started playing it on an old first gen Playstation, moved it to a PS2, got the card reader back then and move that to a PC that I played on (with horrible PS emulation, with the disk even at the time) up to around level 70 on the first disk because I'm a masochist, stopped playing for a few years and managed to port that save over to the PS3. I didn't play that save for probably 12 years or more, and last year decided to finally beat the game and got my 2001 FFVII game running perfectly on my PC using the PS3 card reader to move it over... I still haven't beaten the game but thats a fully different issue.

With my current build I spent an entire week getting my fan curves *just* right, and I enjoyed every second of it, even moreso than actually gaming on the thing. With a console you just plug it in and go. *BORING!* It's like going to a mechanic instead of working on your own car. Where's the fun in that?

I love how they also conveniently forgot to mention perhaps the biggest flex for PC over console: it's also a whole ass PC. Better web browsing experience, endless applications, including tons of use cases for work, school, and home. The fact you can get basically-equivalent gaming PLUS an actual usable windows PC in the same package for roughly the same price is insane I'll always believe that consoles 100% have their place in the world and sometimes their convenience and ease of use just can't be beat - but having fully committed to the switch from console to PC gaming before the last-gen consoles I can honestly say I really haven't looked back once. @triax7006 These budget friendly cards or even the mined ones are usually fine. Miners depend on longevity and usually set a custom fan curve and undervolt. It's these like massive 4090s I am meh about because of sag and stuff. We hear about some of these components breaking but not the millions we leave in our closet for half a decade after we upgrade. It's really hard to miss especially with stuff like ebay's buyer guarantees. Same with CPUs. If it passes a stress test and the pins are there, fine. I've bent back plenty of pins, never an issue. Never had a GPU fail or a CPU fail in my life and been building for everyone for 20 years or so. I've seen fans fail, powerplugs fail, and stuff like that on older cards, but this like reballing the core stuff and memory chip failures seem more like a 4090 or 3090 Ti problem than a mid range used card. Either memory chips not being cooled on the other side of the PCB, or sag causing the PCB to twist or worse, crack, or whatever.

Interesting video. There are definitely flaws though. 1, current used prices of the ps5 is not 500. 2, some value time. The time needed to hunt every part and then build it is, I would imagine, not insignificant. 3, risk. so many different used parts from different sellers. decent chance something is faulty, glitchy, or even broken (yes, yes, returns, still annoying) 4, as pointed out before doom, pcs sometimes need tweaking and have issues, compatibility problems, other errors (like before RnC). You do briefly mention these things at the end, but I think it’s important to note those can be bigger issues for some people, myself included. I’ve built many PCs, with a $3,000 overkill pogger wogger gaming PC sitting in my office. I STILL have stupid ass windows errors and things that just randomly break in the OS, and I’m just tired of troubleshooting. I have to imagine it’s even worse on… that. I’m so damn happy to just sit on my couch, pick up a controller from my charging dock, and shit just works. Obviously, console gaming, over a long period can be more expensive than even a higher end PC with the online services being almost mandatory, but also you get a massive amount of free games with PS Plus at least, and good ones too (imo). anyway, I spent way too long on a comment I feel like I’ll just get shit on for. I just see and appreciate the console for what it is. A user friendly, convenient, mostly error-free gaming machine. No more or less. PCs can do a lot, so I use mine for work, and my PS5 for gaming.

Like others have said, your opinion here, while valid, is also subjective. I was a HUGE console gamer up to and including the Xbox 360, but I honestly switched due to something like they weren't going to allow backward compatibility or something and then later rolled back on that decision. I don't remember if that is accurate, I just remember thinking that I don't have this hassle when I want to play my pc games and didn't bother picking up another console. Most of my friends followed suit, which did make the whole thing easier as well. Some counterpoints to consider: - Computers will last through multiple console generations (assuming you aren't someone who NEEDS the ultra top of the line gigachad graphics at all times) - Once you have a good computer it isn't nearly as expensive to upgrade certain parts in the future - The peripherals work perfectly from one upgrade to the next (consoles are starting to get better with this) - The Vast majority of the time pc gamers have the same gaming experience. Outside of launch day issues, I rarely, if ever am troubleshooting issues with a game. This is also the same experience with all of my friends. This was definitely an argument that used to be relevant, but we are in a significantly better place than we were even 10-15 years ago. A few other thoughts, for me personally, it is much much more expensive to get setup on a console than just forking out even $1000 upgrading my computer. After I factor in the console, the $100 controllers x 3 and the online subscription fee, I am already almost there and I don't even have any games to play. Buy a half-dozen games and I'm well above that $1000 mark and still don't have access to the hundreds upon hundreds of games I have access to on my pc. And none of that factors in all of the other things I can and do use my pc for. Please don't also misconstrue any of this as bashing consoles, that is definitely not my intention. Some of my best gaming memories were crowded around the couch playing Halo with my friends. I just want to show how for some people, especially those of us who only have the budget for one or the other, it's not as clear cut as many say.

I got a series x at a pawn shop a few years ago for $300US. It fits on my small desk, and has very few software issues. I can even use a mouse and keyboard if I want to. Downsides… Games are more expensive, but I don’t play a huge variety. It only plays games, but I have an old laptop for all my non gaming needs. It is not great if mods are needed, there is only one game where that’s a problem for me, so I just need to get good I guess 😂. Whenever I price out a new pc I always end up somewhere in the $1200 ballpark for what I’d consider a longish term rig for myself. I just can’t justify throwing that much at a new pc when, like Linus said, this generation has held its value for money surprisingly well and for the most part, the console kinda just works fine for my (admittedly casual) needs.

Idk if building used PCs is becoming really popular right now because I used to consider $50 total for a used motherboard to be a little bit dear, but now you can't even find an A520 or B450 AM4 motherboard on eBay for less than $60 - $70 including shipping. That's not to mention if you buy a previous generation AM4 board that you might need to flash the BIOS to install 3000 and 5000 series Ryzen (if they are compatible). The same with cases in that you can't seem to get a used one for less than $50 and a new one will probably cost you $70 and up. So, even with the best prices listed I've come across, you will already be $140 into your '$500" hypothetical budget leaving $360 for everything else. $60 for a PSU, $70 for a Ryzen 5 3600X, and about $230 for a used RX 6700 and you'll be lucky to have something close to the PS5 performance. Oh, and I didn't even factor in storage, so hopefully you have a spare hard drive and RAM to put in it.

There's a PS5 Pro launching in November that is rumored to be at the same price range, but near double the performance (at least in TFLOPs). 4. No 3D audio processing in the PC games either. 5. As you mentioned, no controller, and the controller lacks haptic feedback and a speaker/mic built in.

The total price quoted is not really realistic. Linus received the case free of charge due to signs of use. Additional costs would have to be planned for this. The shipping costs for the individual components are also not included in the $475 - nor are the costs for the operating system and peripherals. If you want to rebuild the PC, you have to plan for significantly higher costs. Buying new hardware would cost over $1,000. Not an option for most gamers The advantage of games consoles is that they are ready to use straight out of the box. Assembling a PC requires not only technical understanding, but also time, which not everyone wants to spend. As it turned out, the do-it-yourself PC was actually able to achieve a higher frame rate in some games. However, other games only ran after BIOS adjustments. It is therefore unlikely that many gamers will follow the KZbinr's example and build their own PC from used hardware instead of buying a PS5.

What about used PS5s though? Used parts prices are compared with brand new PS5 value?

Consoles kept their value proposition not because how great the consoles are (which they are either way!), but because the PC hardware prices went through the roof in the meantime. A PC in the same performance class 5 years ago with brand new hardware would have been at roughly $400. CPU: Ryzen 5 1600AF: ~$90 GPU: Radeon RX 580 8GB: ~$150 at the time MOBO: $60 16GB RAM: $80 PSU: $60 Case: $40 (not included in the video) I also think Linus made this video just a bit too early. Prices are starting to go down almost across the board, so in just a couple months time it could have been that he'd been able to do this at a better price point (as in, case and/or controller included for the $500) or with somewhat better hardware.

Make sure that your ram is installed in the 2nd and 4th slots (1 being the closest to the CPU, 4 being the furthest) If it's unstable then, you can maybe RMA the ram/motherboard If you can't/don't want to bother, increase the voltage on the ram (up to 1.4v is very safe, up to 1.45 is generally recognized as a safe limit)

@@CanadianBenchmarks this also depends on the motherboard itself, some motherboards require DIMM 0 and DIMM 2 to be used rather than DIMM 1 and 3. it depends from mobo to mobo, manual usually shows the correct placement

Biggest overlooked point in this video and comments: PC failed to run all of the games compared. Ratchet and Clank literally wouldn't run. This matters to some people. If you buy a console, all of the games are GOING to work.

Only the games that are allowed to work on it. Try playing GTA IV on a PS5.

They did acknowledge incompatibility and did say that the ps5 is still a good deal for another year, watch the whole video

If they'd went for an Nvidia or AMD card instead that would probably not have been an issue, and perhaps they'd also get better performance that way as well.

Lol that was an Intel Arc issue not pc issue. And there's always a fix or workaround

Well they are using 1 of 3 different brand GPUs… had they went with AMD or Nvidia every game would have ran with no issues, and probably performed even better than Intel.

i built a similar pc last year for around $600CAD. I had a case and a PSU to start with and bought a B550m board with one 16gb ram chip and R5 5500 cpu with an RX 560 gpu and a 256gb nvme drive. but.. after I bought some VR goggles and found my basic system didn't cut it.. i bought another nvme drive, another 16gb ram and an RTX 4060ti 16gb gpu. my final upgrade will be to a R7 5800x3d cpu and then my final total cost will end up around the $2k mark lol. if i were building the same MID RANGE gaming pc today on an AM5 socket and ddr5 ram i would be looking at a final cost of closer to $3k.

Here's my dilemma for the past 20 years. Every single time someone comes up with a cheap, when you get all the parts together, machine that is supposed to cost cheaper than the console it beats in spec; when I go and try to find these parts, I could never ever find a way to build that machine for anywhere close to the price they state. Never has happened, ever for me.
