I am glad to see you doing more with other franchises in the Sci-Fi genre. While i agree with your assessment here it is like a relationship that ends on a good note, we will always remember the good times we had with firefly but we are not getting those days back.

Yeah its sad to have the characters gone but its been far too long to bring them back how we know them. The universe is still a special place with proper writers to tell a tale, but it can't be about that crew their story could be finished but not on Tv, and i think if they tried to tell us how they all ended up without a comic covering it, it'd be really hollow.

Tales of Serenity. Set in the world 25 years after the film, new ship crewed young people including a coulpe of children from the original crew. Cameos from characters from the old show but in their current positions. Opportunity to flashbak and tell stories of old, in order to deal with issues of now. Simon and Kalee and their kids, a brother and sister with more sibling rivalry, would be a logical choice.

Heck Yes - The Serenity is back in the Black. Molly Washburne, Zoey's daughter with Wash is aboard the ship. Everyone else aboard are new. There are episodes where the crew can be met later.
@bburke4950 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, and have them in a different ship that is called serenity. Trying to capture the old spirit and facing new issues, while also learning about old ones faced by Mal, etc. Who wouldn't want to see Jane as the Magistrate over the mudders or somehting similar.

Nailed it. I watched the film first randomly about 12 years ago, then later watched the show/film in order a few times. I now think the movie was barely not a mistake. Just barely wasn't too late way back then, 3 years later. Now, the connecting points in our culture that made it fresh and poignant are gone, it was relevant to people who were familiar with moral community drama like DS9 and base idealism in westerns we grew up with. The window of loving realistic whimsy and thoughtful camp closed a long time ago like you say.

I agree with Grey here. Things revisited especially year later, is never as good as the original. It doesn't matter which direction it's approached from, what made the original what it was is never recaptured.

Fellow Browncoat here: As much as I would love a follow-up, the current state of Hollywood and their desire to ruin characters for crap and ideologies let me cold. Rather have something unsoiled and beautiful than another version of "The Last Jedi".

a few things unrelated directly to this video: your depth of nerdom, writing, editing and narration voice are amazing. Truly, I've watched every Grey Gaming episode and it's always a joy. Continuing to do star wars content I feel is a tragic waste of your talents, like rambo mixed with the terminator mixed with sisyphus only doomed to kick a dead horse. Going more nerd with this channel would be awesome and I would love to see your take on more esoteric medias you're interested in rather than adding to the drivel that is mainstream commentary. I also think that given your depth of understanding, opinions and pragmatism you've sprinkled throughout your videos that should you ever branch out on a new channel and do more current event stuff, It would be an immense public good.

Hey, I just want to say thanks for your content. I stumbled on some of your Fallout 4 lore videos and really liked the concise, humorous, and thorough presentation. I watched most of the lore, story, and Creation Club videos, and I’m sure I will enjoy the ones on this channel as well. Keep doing what you’re doing, you deserve to be up there with the big KZbinrs.

Yeah, if it came back it would have to be different but, speaking just for myself, the idea of the crew having kids, the main characters being older, and the fall out of the movie, years down the road, interests me greatly. I get that a lot of fans wouldn't like it, but I think I would IF it was done well. Weadon has to be in charge, there can't be this sense that the new characters are just replacements (they have to be their characters) and the progression of the characters and the setting have to make sense.

I agree that we wouldn't be able to have a show with the same crew, but more stories in the same universe following the events of serenity could be pretty good because they would be able to explore the ramifications of the revelation of miranda from a perspective other than the serenity crew.

@chainsawsubtlety9828 Жыл бұрын
First, I pray to any "God" willing to listen that Hollywood lets Firefly die. Don't desecrate the corpse. Don't try to resurrect it. Don't reboot it. Don't do a "modern interpretation", where all of the male characters are idiots (unless they're gay) and all of the females (because there are only 2 genders) are flawless "Girl-Bosses". Second, the Inara character was dying. By this point, she would have to be dead.

What is it that people want from a Firefly sequel? Because I not only want to see the characters I really like back, but I want to see this Verse expanded and to see new characters in the same vein as the Serenity crew. A lot and I mean A LOT of what I write in my stories is based heavily on the tone of Firefly, particularly the post war Brown Coats relationship with the world they are forced to function within. Because it's unique and captivating. You expect me to believe Serenity is the only ship captained by a Brown Coat vet? So not only would I like to catch up with these characters, I would love to meet new characters. I suspect there were Star Trek fans who said similar things to you, Grey before Next Generation came out. Yet we did see more of the world, even went back to Kirk's Enterprise. We followed other crews within Star Fleet for fifteen plus years and even saw a fantastic prequel with Enterprise. I think the comparison with Star Trek is so apt because I truly believe Firefly is the 21st century's Star Trek with how it was at first treated and recieved and now look how well Star Trek is doing sixty plus years later. I want to see more of the Verse, someone just needs to let us fly.

Yes, this right here with the TNG approach to a sequel series is the best option available for continuing the franchise on-screen.

Bringing back a show with the exact same cast twenty years after the fact guarantees that it will not be the same show. Bringing back the franchise however, is another thing. They just need the right cast. Of course there is also the change in collective sensibilities of the studios so we get a mangling of the story not unlike what was done to Star Wars.

Firefly was an interesting Traveller campaign made into a TV show, if you ask me. It follows the game’s formula well, and it had the Wedon charm. The second biggest hurdle for any renewed series for this is Jose Wedon himself. The man’s style has evolved and changed and any series he makes today will be difficult from a show he made over twenty years ago. On that note, if you are into any TTRPG stuff, can you take a look at Traveller sometime? Maybe Battlestar Galactica?
@NIGHTSTALKER973 Жыл бұрын
As much as I like firefly and I do like it it's wayyyyy to late to bring it back ten years ago it could have been done and they could have retconned serenity the only other way it could work with the original cast is an animated show which I think could work.

I’ve always felt it’s better to be a Firefly than a Star Wars. Go out on top and leave the fans clambering for more. The worst thing that could happen is a Firefly revival on par with the Book of Boba Fett or worse.
@reygunz3059 Жыл бұрын
Yep. Fan service here would only disappoint. I'm not against a sequel series with the same cast, but as you stated, it would be fundamentally a different show. Moreover, the writing would need to be top-notch-something we don't get a lot of-to make the show entertaining. It's a huge gamble. The best alternative to the fundamentally different sequel series would be series that focuses on an entirely different cast of characters set in the same universe. That probably wouldn't bode well for the "bring back firefly" crowd. If writers and producers can't or won't do these two options, then pay it to rest. Well move onto a new sci-fi series.

I know reverse psychology when I see it. Let's start a petition fellas! Bring back firefly! Lol, but for real, I'd rather keep it a fond memory than to beat it's corpse with a stick trying to resurrect it.

'let go' of properly GREAT storytelling? (fuck the movie's ending, though, it was the company giving the finger to any continuation of the show) We need MORE shit like Firefly. not LESS.
@dawfydd Жыл бұрын
I think if firefly came back it couldn't be about the same crew. It'd have to be about a different crew in the same universe experiencing perhaps similar problems maybe from the other side, maybe these people start legit and struggle to make ends meet, so they meet up with an elderly criminal we might know who leads them to become what the crew of firefly were. This way you could have all the characters in firefly return when they can and plot out their stories inbetween, something i think should be done in comic form. And i think somebody else needs to be in charge rather than Whedon, just to keep him on a leash because he's a horrid person, his ideas are fine but he can't have power over people.
@dawfydd Жыл бұрын
Oh, and screw the kids taking over bullshit, i hate that.. its like the universe isn't full of people who are interesting and have their own problems if you just introduce all the kids. Wanna introduce one as a main cast member after season 1, sure.. let them earn it in a solo episode first, how the MCU should work each hero should earn its place on the next avengers team, based on how popular each of them are, throw lots of shit at the wall if She hulk is awful she is a side character for life, and Ms Marvel fucks right back to being drained by rogue.

Best option won't be popular. Gotta Star Trek Next Gen it. Advance storyline get different characters. New story in same universe. You can allow some cameos but it isn't focused on them.
@dracos24 Жыл бұрын
Exactly this. There's plenty of room in the verse for new space cowboys. Most of the cast have repeatedly pulled off cameos in their later shows of Firefly alumni, so it wouldn't be much to expect decent one-offs for an episode showing how they've fared without devoting the season to them.

Never understood the hype for this show - it was Ok, just Ok - great casting, extremely derivative universe and scripts, which isn't a bad thing in itself, except it brought attention to how average it was compared to the works it was aping. Yeah, I'd rather watch Firefly a thousand times than ever watch Kenobi or Boba Fett again because both of those shows were trash. - but compared to Andor, Firefly is very pedestrian.
