An idea you might consider: Cconvert the ladder to a "library ladder" with a bar across the top and wheels on the bottom so it could be moved side to side.. It then could be left up and could still be moved out of the way if needed. - I am extremely jealous of what you have there and very impressed with what you have accomplished with it!

I like the hinged, raise up ladder idea. It takes up way too much floor space otherwise. I look forward to a deck railing out front as well, also a good rope rat line rail opportunity to prevent too much view obstruction. Cheers!

How about cutting the ladder in half and hinge it to fold when you want to put it out of the way like an attic ladder. The metal brackets off of the old dock could be a pivot point at the top of the ladder. Or make a spot along the wall where you can attach the ladder to the wall vertically out of the way. The view up there is spectacular. Thanks for the episode.

Just another suggestion on the ladder. Put it on a pulley System that you could raise, so it's right out of the way. Having it attached to the side of the loft. If the ladder is too long you could hinge it In the middle and fold it up out of the way as well.

I think you made the correct decision to forgo the steel plates to connect the boards in your loft. But you may still want to keep them apart orherwise. Try cutting 4 small blocks like 1" x 3" and lay them between the boards 20" in from each end. You'll still have sufficient open space for air and your mattress pad will keep them in place for the most part. This will also allow for contraction or expansion of the long boards. Also, look into library ladder rails for your new ladder.

Things are looking good I bet it was awesome spending the night and waking up to such beautiful scenery. I had a wow moment when you were talking about your ash can you found on line I have that same set my Mother handed down to me hers have faded pink or red lids on them. Just some of my 2 cents worth I would not put the ladder to the side wall think that will mess with your head room. I would fasten it too the loft in some way so it doesn't slip. Take those 2 brackets that came from the dock that you put on each end and move them to the middle put a pin through them and the ladder. Put a pully up in the roof beam I'm sure there is some dock cleats from that dock laying around screw it to the wall somewhere pull ladder up hook rope to cleat.

Hi, nurse Michy, just a thought. So as I was watching this video this morning, I was thinking about the square o ring attachments you brought up from the cabin and used them for support on the bed 4x4s. I had an Idea on how to utilize them. How about you instead of plant holder or such you get a solid pole and use that to make you barn, well more like a library style of set up for a wall shelf style ladder. They sell the wheel attachments for the side and bottom of your ladder and I'm sure you can get one more square attachment for the center. And give it some centered support. Slide your ladder left and right. Just a thought, hope it helps. 👊🏼😊

Use a pulley mounted to the ceiling and a rope to pull it up out of the way if you have enough room to do so. Put a cleat to tie the rope up and hold the ladder out of the way when not in use. Then to lift it up and down you could use small block and tackle type pully system at the bottom edge and attach it to the ceiling rafter. That way it would be totally out of your way during the day. Those small block and tackle pully systems can be bought at Princess Auto for cheap. Just a thought.

Railing. I had a house in the Adirondack Mountains on a lake. The back porch facing the lake had screens ceiling to floor and an aluminum storm door in the middle. We would sit our after dinner and the view was great EXCEPT for the door, it annoyingly blocked the view of the lake and the mountains beyond. So I took the door apart and replaced the metal with clear lexan. Problem solved. You could screw a 2 x 4 to the floor, 4 x 4 on either end, bolted to the deck and then create 2 x 4 panels with a dado groove cut and then insert the lexan sheets. Just an Idea. I'm guessing there's no railing yet because you don't want to mess up the view. Please put up a railing.

Can you hinge the ladder at the top where it meets the loft? That would let you swing the ladder up and down when you do or do not need to use it. You then just need some sort of hook mechanism for the other end of the ladder that would hold it up. Hard to tell if you have the room to allow the ladder to swing up/down, though you'd need to move the bluetti. It also depends on where you want the final position of the ladder like you had mentioned.

Your ladder looks and works great! My vote is to mount it sideways, parallel to the loft. But instead of stowing it under the loft, mount the top of the ladder to a sturdy rod (acting as an axle/hinge) protruding out from the side of the loft. Drill a hole near the end of each stringer so you can slide the end of the ladder over the rod/axle. Provide an attachment point at the bottom of the ladder to attach a clasp with a rope and pulley system. Attach a cleat to the wall to secure the rope once the ladder is stowed beside the loft. You could also have the ladder in the "stowed" position while you're in the loft to provide an added degree of safety or as another flat surface space for bulky items you bring up with you. By the way, you did a wonderful job creating and editing this video. Always enjoy your four-legged fur babies sprinkled in your videos. The affection and care you show for them is very endearing. The ladder looks great in the cabin. When you got those hinges from the dock in place on the loft, my first thought was that you could put a steel rod, or EMT between them and through the top of the stringers of the ladder and use it like a library ladder system to slide it along the loft and out of the way and doubling as a hinge to swing the whole ladder up to stow it up and out of the way. Perhaps with a pulley that can attach and detach from under the center of the lowest rung of the ladder. I look forward to Sunday mornings and your video coming out. Have a great week!!

Michy, at the top of the stone wall why not lower your stuff with a rope. Have you hubby install a pulley so you don't cut the rope. Install something out over the edge with a pulley. Tie up what you need to send down to the next level, Push it over the side. Have the other end tied to the back of you truck on the hitch maybe with another pulley and let it down slow. Beats carrying everything down those long steps. Just a though. You might have something at the top of the wall so you don't fall over, like a railing, one one the deck might be a good idea also. Wanted to tell you about this be for. Good luck.

Continue trusting your artistic instinct when it comes form and function, its working very well. As for the ash tray/pot, I hand form copper and would be happy to hammer something out for you. I think that would be kinda neat. I feel very much at peace watching. Thanks from just South of Pittsburgh...

This isn't how a ladder is made. This is a very dangerous ladder and should not be used.

@@illiniwood yeah yeah. Chill bro! Should the steps be mortised in, it would help. Because it’s inside and probably not used on a daily basis/ weekly basis I’m sure it’ll be ok😉 we had a swing set for 15 plus years growing up, outside at that, and didn’t have a problem with it till we were grown up! 🤙🏼

@@JoseyWales-ed Ladders sold at Hobby Lobby made to hold plants and pictures are made like this ladder. There is no through support from rung to rung under the steps nor "mortised in", and just using screws isn't gonna cut it. It's clearly obvious she did absolutely no research on how to build a weight bearing wooden ladder. key word here is "till we were grown up!" That's the problem. Children aren't exclusively using this ladder. adults are. It's only a matter of time before the screws start to pull out from excessive downward force due to zero support.

'Live Edge' loft ladder...Two Thumbs up. I did a live edge spiral stairs back in 1982 with a cedar tree for the center pole for one of my log home designs. I used a Pine tree in the center of the house to hold up the roof of chainsaw milled timbers. Steel hanger brackets were custom made by a blacksmith and followed the design of hardware in Greene & Greene designs and used on Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood/Oregon.

Back to the purple 🎵💜 🤣🤣 The 🪜 looks cool in the cabin for sure!! You girls must of loved the little get away and the walks all over .. Have to keep an eye out for some fallen hard wood around Clifford so you don't have to haul it in . The smile says it all about your first night in your cozy loft dreams ❤.

You can even make chef boy R D Ravoli too. The ones here in America, you just pull the top open (no need for can opener). Just an option. :)

Hey Michy, on the ladder, having it able to be up and out of the way, the most useful. Hinged on one end and a eyelet at the bottom with a carabeaner with some paracord, pulley, and a tie down. That way you can pull the ladder up and out of the way. And lower it down and unclip the carabeaner and put the cord out of the way. You also need a cabinet that you could make all the components for at the house then assemble it at the cabin make the top also and get a little bar sink or a stainless steel bowl and inset it in the counter and let it drain out side under the cabin. Making things simple. Also build a shelf for the charging system, so it's off the floor and fairly secured too the wall. Anyway it's getting their .Have a good week and God bless amen.

Michy, Your ladder looks great and the view from your loft is spectacular! Sweet Dreams!. I suggest simply mounting the ladder in-line beside the loft using a pulley system to tuck up it up by the loft when not in use. It won't block any light and may be lowered directly down when needed. LENNY!!! OH my what a happy ol' boy he has become. LENNY HEARTS LUNA!!

I really enjoy your shows and content. I find them very entertaining. I think the ladder would look good side on and use the hinges from the dock to attack it to the wall and use a pulley system to raise and lower it from the ceiling area. Keep up the great content.

Hi Michelle and family .spring is close in Alberta. Can you move your generator (by the heal of the ladder ) to under the loft ?All the cords can go along the wall .That way you can leave the ladder sort-of up close to the wall.

I just came across your channel a few weeks ago and I love your sense of adventure .,, your problem solving skills and your humor. I checked out some of your older videos and was fascinated by your adventures on water as well .. after watching some of this series I can see why you and your husband hit it off as you are both talented and pioneers of your own callings .. I am not sure if you have ever done a video on your pet family and how they all came into your lives but I would love to watch a video of a story telling of how your fur family became your furever family .. admire how much you both love your pets and nature,,.. xo from South central Ontario .

The ladder looks great in the cabin, love the live edge. I like it the way you used it facing away from the loft... it's true that could cut into the ability to use the dance floor but personally I would want to see the ladder rather than fold it away and hide it somewhere. keep well 🙂

Hope you enjoyed your first all nighter!! And as far the ladder goes I like it where you have it and since your not "living" out there I would think it's really not in the way. As heavy as it is I would think it would be a pain in the ars to move it all the time. It sure looks heavy and as beautiful as it is it's really a wonderful decorative piece! And next year you can put pine on it from the land for Christmas!!!

Having lived in a cabin with a ladder to a sleeping loft, I would suggest some way to anchor the top of the ladder. I it slips while climbing or during the night it can be a pain... Beautiful place!

Hiya, without sounding barbaric 😅.. you could cut the ladder in half much like a loft access, and have a simple rope pulley system from the roof, attached halfway folds the ladder as you pull it up. . Another idea I guess hey? 😂.. love your work x

When you have choose the right ladder-position to climb , add in the foot-ladder a neil (Diam 10mm....., sorry lenth= one inch) and the 2 holes in the deck for that, by that after use of the ladder, you can move it as you like??? Nice vidéo ....as usual. Bon courage and stay safe.

Me too, I was thinking once again “put up a safety railing!” just before you mentioned it. “Don’t worry I’m not going to fall off” is not the way its works! Everyone who was ever in an accident thought it wouldn’t happen to them. Everyone who knows you, everyone who follows you, would be devastates if we found out you had fallen, despite everyone, including Steve, telling you how unsafe it was.

As a guy who has fallen off of almost every ladder I've been on; that sketches me out. I would have to put no skid feet on it or attach it to the loft. I think the contrast (loft/ladder) looks good and adds to the charm. Hi to the hounds and Steve!

Love your work and your channel. Regarding the ladder, perhaps the easiest is to put a wooden peg in the bottom of the ladder rails and drill two holes in the floor to set the pegs in. Regarding ladder angle/ safety: Put your toes against the bottom of the ladder, while standing upright, you should be able to grasp the rung/ step with your hands. This is approx. 30 degrees from vertical. For the loft, consider one post in the middle of the fascia so you can't fall out, and have something to hold onto when getting in or out of the loft. Best wishes....
