I KNEW it was GRN who was your pool contractor based on your nagging complaints. Both Chris and his brother Andy are dirt bags. Everything in that company seemingly runs through Chris but he’s terrible at his job and has very little forethought in planning. I’ve seen finished pools with upwards of 150’ of pipe snaked underground, re-plastered pools immediately after start up because the plaster guys mixed the wrong plaster, illogical plumbing systems (returns attached to waste lines underground), you name it. I’m so glad I quit. I’ve been following this company through fuck up after fuck up and I’m so, so incredibly sorry you gave them money.

Sounds a bit like experiences I've had with some contractors, they prioritize easy jobs to get good reviews or get money in, and if at some point it's clear you're not going to give them a good review you're put on the bottom of the priority list, and they only show up when they have nothing else to work on, and if they show up they send one guy to do a 3-5 man job and make no real progress. And they keep saying the problem is that they don't have the right materials, when reviews from others makes it clear they got the materials, they're just not allocating any to you.

my neighbor has a crew of 6 guys and builds pools and they do them in MAX of like 45 calendar days for a REALLY nice one. and like 12-14 real work days for them...thats from groundbreaking to finishing the grass and concrete edging/cleaning and filling the pool to the top. They do 3-4 at a time and stagger which days they are where...and every one is nice AF and 10% less than anyone within 1200 miles. Dude lives 1/4 mile from me down a paved driveway in a 4 million dollar house. We shoot and ride dirtbikes sometimes, i worked there for 6 months too and it was amazing how well he does it and how smooth it goes tbh. Because he has a BRAIN

odd that a lot of GRN positive reviews were from posters who only had one review. For someone who has never left a Google review - ever - to then a very detailed and comprehensive review for GRN seems shady, at best.
@szerdrew8034
@szerdrew8034 Жыл бұрын
@@Premier-Media-Groupotentially shady. OR its people that just go about their lives not reviewing any and everything, until they get to the one company and/or one fuck up so bad that they actually feel the need to say something about it. Imo, from Linus saying how many similar bad reviews were about the company, particually before he has named and shamed them, it sounds like the former. Now that he has named them i wouldnt put it passed the internet hoarde to review bomb them though (which i do not condone if they were not a customer of the company), so in that case any new reviews are significantly more suspect. EDIT: upon rereading the message i responded to, i realized i misread. I thought Premier was saying singular BAD reviews were suspicious. When in actuality, they said singular GOOD reviews were suspicious. My bad!

100% agree with Luke on reviewers, I watch certain reviewers to get different perspectives and use cases. I don't want them to all be the same because that would entirely defeat the point. Reviewers are individuals and they will notice and value different things and that is infinitely more valuable than them all agreeing and covering the product in the same way.
@ExarchGaming
@ExarchGaming Жыл бұрын
we're seeing it in so many different spaces, where there has to be a community line that is towed or you may get review bombed. The chat correctly called out the Asus thing, where Linus and team came up with a different conclusion than J2C and GN, and they caught flak for it, despite it being a fairly well thoughtout and reasonable take. The need for people to crucify any sort of mistake not even just the tech industry; twitter is the greatest example of this. You can see it for example during the hogwarts legacy thing; where anything other than absolute and total disdain for the author of harry potter, but it cascading down to the game that had little to do with her at all, to the point of harassing creators that were even sympathetic towards them. Xepla/ZeplaHQ for example and her absolute pop off during the middle of it all was absolutely on the fucking money.
@TheJjjoj
@TheJjjoj Жыл бұрын
@@ExarchGaming A lot of hate for most companies, and individuals for that matter, is based on singular anecdotal experience and lacks the consistency of negative behavior to warrant it. It also typically ignores any good the company, or individual, has done. It's emotional and not logical. That's why it is so easy to blow it out of proportion. It's funny how easy it is to see the tendencies of these youtubers when something like this happens. GN tends to push a bit too hard for their own preferences. Usually, this is good for most, but sometimes, in a roundabout way, it's to the extreme detriment of everyone. Jay jumps on every bandwagon he possibly can at this point and rarely takes any steps to help improve a situation. Often, he unintentionally stokes the flames. He seems principled but thoughtless. Linus invariably becomes an apologist while trying to play the devil's advocate since he's not that great at it. Luke usually has a pretty measured take since he's so much more focused on building Floatplane that he stays fairly removed from the youtube bullshit most of the time.

The video DerBauer did showing the PowerColor GPU production facility is the perfect example of how a company can gain a huge PR boost from listening to what the content creator actually wants to see (and not just pushing the content creator to accept what marketing wants to push on them). The number of people who commented on that video and said "my next card will be a PowerColor" (and probably those who made the same decision but didn't comment about it) and the overall good press they got for showing off their line and being open about it likely more than justifies whatever costs PowerColor incurred in making it happen.

According to 1, the highest recorded speed for a golf ball is 226 mph, or about 0.1 km/sec. However, the escape velocity from the moon is 2374 m/s, or almost 2.37 km/s 2. Therefore, a golf ball on the moon would not be able to escape its gravitational pull.
@TheKarabanera
@TheKarabanera Жыл бұрын
But that's the speed with Earth gravity and air resistance. Since there is no atmosphere on the moon - it's likely the speed will be higher. I'm not saying it will be high enough to escape the Moon gravity, but 226mph is simply wrong for this.
@Bomkz

Regarding the kickstarter issue: There is a large difference between "we think we can develop this novel product for around X total money. Please fund us to develop the needed technology" and "we have this new technology ready to go, just have to find a fab to make it and get enough orders to make it cost effective". In this case, they had the former type of campaign, but used the one existing prototype to make it sound like the second type of campaign. That's not cool, regardless of if you are an established company or a single individual in your basement. Obviously, they did it that way to get more people to buy, because there are a lot more people willing to buy via kickstarter to get a good price when the advertised risk is relatively low.

I get your guys' point on the "Never attribute to malice what can be attributable to ineptitude." HOWEVER, what scares me about this is having to trust that Gigabyte isn't going to sneak their own spyware on to people's PC's using this. Even if they can make that back door out of iron and make their data centers iron fortresses so the end user would never be hacked, we still have to trust Gigabyte with this power. We live in an age where information has never been more valuable than today. And we live in an age where Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon, and Facebook have CLEARLY SHOWN they don't care about end user privacy. Our data is minable and valuable, and here's a company that has a built in back door to our PC's through their product. How long before Gigabyte abuses that back door, and how much longer until we discover it? That scares me. There was a time period a few years ago where MSI, NZXT, and Gigabyte all had dangerous products on the market and got SPANKED by GamersNexus over how bad their customer service and handling of this product. (I think it was the exploding power supplies that was Gigabyte's issue.) They have clearly shown in the past they will turn their noses up at customers, so you'll have to excuse me about trusting them with this going forward.

"Common Key - This is the “shared secret” that we extracted with the Tweezer Hack. This key is known by all Wiis, but is never used, directly, to encrypt anything. Instead, all titles are encrypted with a random AES key; this key is then encrypted with the Common key and then stored inside a ticket. The ticket is then transmitted along with the content - on discs, it’s part of the “certificates” found before the encrypted data starts. Thus, knowing the common key allows you to decrypt most Wii content, as long as you have the right ticket. This key is stored in the OTP area inside the Starlet ARM core inside the Hollywood package." it sounds like the common key is just used in the encryption/decryption process along with the individual game ticket, maybe as a salt.

The comparison of Ai in gaming to CGI in movies is brilliant
@Zwettekop
@Zwettekop Жыл бұрын
I found it weird how he used it as an argument to say that using AI is not a cop out. Even today when CGI is a mature technology there's a massive problem in Hollywood where movies overuse CGI because the industry isn't unionized. Similarly AI is cheaper then creating content yourself so I suspect we'll also see a continued amount of lazyness for decades to come. Thats not to say it won't be useful off course. Maybe he did say it and i missed it.
@vuri3798
@vuri3798 Жыл бұрын
@@Zwettekop His point was that he didn't like the word lazy because it makes him feel like this word is directed at devs when he believes it's an upper management issue. The thing is.... Whether it's on devs or management, it doesn't matter. Someone still felt like being lazy, could be one or the other, or both. He argues that AI is just a tool so it can't be lazy. Yes, AI isn't lazy... Humans are. I've spent time in art, music and craftmanship and I can tell you that in any field, the more tools you give to people the more they rely on it, which is obvious and completely normal. It helps them push further, and they don't look back. Level of entry gets lower (not a bad thing in itself), and newcomers don't need to be as skilled when said tool does the job for them, and they're not really interested in the old techniques so they don't learn it. Which also is understandable, why would you when the tool just works. But then at some point they can't rely on it, and they're completely fucked. Down the line tools offer you great possibilities that wouldn't have been possible otherwise, but ease also weakens you foundations, it is what it is. "Similarly AI is cheaper then creating content yourself so I suspect we'll also see a continued amount of lazyness for decades to come" What I personnaly worry about is ease of use. If in decades it becomes such a powerful and easy tool to the point anybody can create anything, that could be a slow burn (I do'nt see how a sudden downgrade in content could take place) leading us to an oversaturation of mediocrity making it really hard to find gems.

Regarding the casual misogyny thing - I HATE that so much. A girl I dated was a scientist and she was a lot smarter than me on a lot of things and more than competent on plenty of technical stuff. I absolutely HATED when people would talk to me and not her when its her issue/question/whatever and Im just the person who happens to be there. I would constantly have to deliberately look confused even if I understood and shrug and say "Look I dont know shes the one who knows" and it made me so mad every time it happens. I can only imagine how it makes women feel. I got a light taste of it when I learned a bunch of makeup stuff and took a huge interest in another girl I dateds hobby so I could actually talk to her about it and contribute to it, use it for proper gift ideas, etc. I went to buy her some super specific brushes she wanted and holy shit the condescension I received because it wasnt the normal recommendation (which I knew she wanted the other kind for a very specific reason) and I just copped a wall of "Silly man what would you know" attitude. Id go postal if I had to deal with that every day and in things that actually matter.

I agree on the reviewer observation - it's bizarre lately. Folks need to deal with the reality that reviews are reviews - not fan speak - and get over it. It's really odd seeing comments turn on a reviewer because they don't agree with every other review out there. It's even wierder that I saw a reviewer apologize for a review the audience didn't agree with and even take the video down. Maybe just stop reviewing products and folks can get their information from the vendor/maker if they are gonna BMW about it.

We really need more people to start talking about what's been going on in a notable part of the audience around reviews for quite some time now, and not just reviews but also various issues (like the Asus thing recently) where people seem to be interested more in the drama of it than the actual problem. Honestly, it might even be worth it making a dedicated video as it should be talked about generally, not just case-by-case basis. It's like people are expecting reality TV style content and they lose even the last bit of objectivity. My issue with that isn't just the comments but also that this trickles down into hardware advice discussions. We could get to a point where some creators are very specifically building up their content on this, ending up with another userbenchmark like situation where terrible outlets gain prominence.

Funny you should bring this up, because this is what I've been feeling LMG (or Linus personally) becoming for some time now. Just take the "My facts" and "Your Facts" part of Linus reasoning in this video; first off: It's called an opinion, and although I get that he's tired, he STILL doesn't seem to see the difference between him as a person, LMG, as well as smaller creators (like GN & HUB). And chewing out an employee and basically blaming it on us, the viewers (doesn't matter if that wasn't what he meant, that's the effect)? Screw that. People make mistakes; own yours. I've lost a lot of respect for him over a relatively short time.

He really struggles with understanding why people are calling him a shill I don't think he is, but he does straddle the fence between consumer and corporation all too often, especially now that LMG has basically become one. He says he doesn't want drama, but creates it by creating a "balanced" review of the 4060Ti, which in reality should have been a lot more critical to actually be balanced. It's fine if you don't know what I'm getting at, it's not the only reason I have for my opinion, after all. I've been posting about this for a while (as implied), so I'm not going to drag it all up here.

@@CanIHasThisName Definitely agree about people looking for reactions; but there was quite a bit they just skimmed over or outright ignored in the review of the 4060Ti (mind you, this isn't the only video I've been critical of, much less Linus' attitude towards consumers in general on WAN show at times), which only a select few outlets actually touched on (GN & HUB would be the most prominent, with GNs reviews mostly being the gold standard in my opinion - routinely showing that they genuinely care about us consumers). But I think we both want the same thing: More facts, and much less drama. Ideally none, but that may be difficult to attain with companies like nVidia constantly stirring the pot.

3:21:20 I think something we'll going to regret wanting as tech community will be subscription services for games (game pass, playstation plus, etc). The netflix story-arc
@CanIHasThisName
@CanIHasThisName Жыл бұрын
It's a very different situation. The gaming industry is ahead of the movie industry in terms of distribution. So it can't be assumed that the problems we're seeing with movies will reflect later in gaming and if anything, the gaming industry has had some of the same issues, they just ended being resolved differently. This whole issue is less about subscriptions, and more about the shift from physical distribution to digital. Most people want digital, we've been seeing this shift over the past two decades. But the movie industry has been resisting this shift. It's not that they killed DVD/Bluray with subscriptions, it's that people have been moving away from physical and subscriptions ended up being the only compelling, legitimate digital option. Relative to when people were ready for digital, the gaming industry has had a compelling digital option extremely early. When people started to realize they'd be better off downloading a game, Steam was there, ready to take their money and provide a good service. The movie/TV industry needed digital much earlier, but has failed to implement a consumer-friendly system at a point when a huge part of the audience was already actively looking for a digital alternative. People obviously found it; piracy. As Gabe Newell said, piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem. And you know what's going to happen as all these streaming services keep getting worse and worse? That's right, more people will look for a more convenient way of getting the content they want, and for most content it's gonna be piracy. The movie/TV segment started accepting digital too late and instead of addressing the old issues, they insisted on keeping a lot of them and created new ones in the process. Services like Netflix providing less is a consequence of these issues and the relatively sudden realization of the movie industry that they can't really resist digital because consumers are going to get it one way or the other. Now, everyone wants their own streaming service, but the cost of running the service isn't necessarily proportional to how much content it offers. So the prices are going up while the content keeps getting split between more and more services. And of course, the music segment would be another topic. The way music is distributed now (KZbin, Spotify and such) is actually amazing for consumers, but the music segment was effectively forced into it by tech companies as it failed to establish a compelling digital distribution on their own terms and this segment in particular absolutely NEEDED digital distribution before anyone else, even before books. Now they're not exactly happy with the money they're getting out of it, but tough shit because the consumer habits have shifted so far they're just not going back no matter what they do. If the movie industry doesn't figure out their shit, someone else is going to figure it out for them and they'll be in the same boat as music.
