When I worked at Microsoft we regarded 451 research as a joke, that was 15 years ago. I am amazed how they survive.
@fgf80
@fgf80 Жыл бұрын
If I didn't know better I'd think 451 was a reference to Fahrenheit 451, in which an authoritarian regime burns books to erase evidence of the past and romanticism about the future that might motivate people to change the world. The only reason I'm not sure if that's the point is because it seems like kind of a reach to get from that to misleading polling services.

@@timseguine2 You illustrate the beauty of it: they don't, but people think they do. What they actually say is "9/10 dentists recommend", they never say "over other brands". The truth is, close to 100% of dentists recommend essentially all toothpaste brands because they are all perfectly fine. They don't use 10/10 in the ads because that sounds impossible, and since obviously they polled more than 10 dentists and at least one is bound to say no, they can round down to 9/10 and nobody can say they really lied.

weird flex to test people who signed up for a class to teach them that thing in the first place. weirder flex to pull on kids....and not adults who are also desperate to start a new life. ( it IS a class for new immigrants to sign up for readily available everywhere) adults can blaze through a highschool or college course with ease because most adults have learned to learn and focus and work hard...... Adults dont because nearly nobody can afford to put everything on hold for 4 years take near zero pay and still pay for a family.... and by the time youre 30 you realize college has been a waste of time since the 60s because you could have learned all thats needed in a year or 2 at work (as an adult) even most kids dont need it stretched to 4 years

My sister I think still has their first gen and my brother for sure still has a fifth gen as his only computer. In both cases it was a question of really cramped office spaces and not minding spending $50 extra on something really small. The comment at 2:14:06 that lead "tastes good" is actually true and part of the problem -- lead tastes sweet. The reason for "eating paint chips" being a meme was because small kids will put anything in their mouths, and when they discover it tastes sweet, it becomes something they seek. Similar reason to smelling exhaust fumes from the combustion of leaded gas (though that one I haven't really looked for further support than the person who told me, am older chemist I knew)

As far as shipping goes, i actually just wish you would have the option to take orders for a country, say Australia and ship them over here in bulk then have them reshipped in their orders from there. Theres so many things i would like to have, but the shipping is usually 3x the price of the item.
@sandmaster4444

I wonder if they could do a subscribe and save type model: if you order from AUS, LTT will partner with a "local" company and ship in bulk to them for "local" redistribution if the total is over $XX,XXX on day Y of the month. They deal with shipping, taxes, and partnership once per month at most and can set the region minimum in accordance with their needed margins. Might get a lot of "Oh shit! AUS hit the target and cutoff is in 5 days! Tell your friends to get their order in!!"
@druss5000

You need to get some friends and do a group order. I just did that with a mate and the shipping cost was actually quite reasonable. Spent roughly $150 USD and shipping was $30 USD.

thank you for the free shipping! It was always to expensive for me because the shipping would be 30 and taxes would come on top of it only during payment. Making just buying the screwdriver to expensive(for me). I know that in the US it's normal to calculate taxes later but in the Netherlands, it's normally included in the product's price. So we aren't used to the price being a lot higher during checkout.

I wish it was like that in the US. It was annoying when I had to keep track of how much I was buying in the grocery store and add about 10% tax (tax isn't that high, just kept me under budget). Well, this comes from the times where thing were build to last. And as fot they joypad - it is made in a way in which it is always calibrating itself (moving away and back to center). Modern gamepads are made cheaper as they are not calibrated at all. I still have it and it still works. You can even connect it to PC and it will work with modern games. Amazing.

Hey Linus & LTT Team. What a week. I want you to know I am all in with you and your team. So take a breath and keep a calm. Now you had been making mistakes but you are human after all. Own your mistakes and most of all take your time to make change in LMG operations. It is not necessory to complete whole revamp process to be completed in 1 week. Take your time. If it requires more time it is not big problem for viewers. If it takes more time than video log it and realease it so we can feel connected to you guys. If you feel hammered from all sides I want you to ask these questions to your self. 1) Why you started LTT ?, 2) what was your motivation to start LTT ?, 3) What are the thing you would never do (off limits) for the good of your viewers ?, 4) What was your goal (vision) to start LTT ? ( I ) think you will get most of your answer for these troubled times. Take criticism to your heart and work on which is relevant. And remember if there is criticism that means you are progressing in your life.

We use mini PCs in the company all the time. They are simply easier to transport, to store and take up less space on or under the desk. Also with modern CPUs like Ryzen 5000 they are as fast as normal PCs. In particular we use the Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q with AMD Hardware, they are really good and reliable. We used to also have Dell Mini PCs but their Bios was just trash, you could hardly find any settings there and they crashed often or didn't boot into windows. 37:50 It's really dangerous but it's also a work much to use and maintain an Exchange Server. 1:46:42 Sadly there is one, the rule doesn't apply for things that are water proof up to some degree.

I have a Chevy Spark I bought back in 2015. It had a 5 star user satisfaction rating. How did it get that? Guilt. They had two separate survey systems... one for actual in house stuff so they could improve their service, but another whole set to use in their advertising. You were told that if you didn't give your salesman 5 stars across the board he wouldn't be given his commission. Same thing for repairs- if you don't give your mechanic 5 stars he doesn't get paid for the job- but they had a whole different set of books for in house use. They were also insanely pushy with marketing. Within a year they were calling me asking me if I'd like to trade my new car in on another car. I'm a light driver (I'm at about 21k miles on that car here in 2023... I told them when I bought it I hoped to get 20 years out of it). They wouldn't stop calling. I keep weird hours and they kept waking me up. Apparently each department had its own phone number list. It took me a year of me angrily telling them to stop, including having to call them and go through several levels of management and reporting them to the Do Not Call Registry, NYS AG and constantly attacking the dealership on their FB page to just get them to stop calling me. I suspect Apple is doing it more for sales than for corporate. I suspect people buying stock are a little more sophisticated than the average Apple user.

The answer to the puzzle at 12:55 is that the phone takes up more space on the desk top surface because the length of the phone is greater than the diameter of the water bottle, but the height of the water bottle is greater than the height of the phone and the overall area and volume of the water bottle is greater than the phone so the water bottle takes up more space in general

Many military personnel use small computers as they can fit in a backpack or a deployment bag/ sack. Certain military's had found there personnel using a small computer like the Intel as a way to keep in contact with friends and family while on deployment, instead of taking up the FOB base phones, not to mention the use of gaming as a stress relief system when not on a operation.

@@LightPink This. Steam Deck makes more sense than a NUC. OP is right that space is at a premium, but so much so that the monitor, KB, mouse, etc is a problem.

The Intel NUC is a great little computer for what it is. I have about a dozen of them. I use them heavily for my video production business, primarily in my video production trailer. I can fit six of them on a shelf in a single equipment rack space (though I usually don't run that many at once). They can also be powered on 12V, which makes them really easy to run on battery/solar. I also have them in my guest bedrooms, tucked behind and connected to the TVs in those rooms. It makes it easy to give someone a computer they can work on while staying with me without taking up any space and having to mess with an HDMI cable from their laptops. I also use one as my home theater PC, running Plex. Works great for that.

On the topic of the user replaceable batteries, what if instead of having a removable backplate like old phones, what if it was a cartridge that you could slide out of the bottom or side of the phone, in the same style as a SIM card tray. Just a thought.

As an aussie it only made sense this time to buy a backpack. But maybe next time say $50 off shipping or something. That would cover most people at least a good chunk of the shipping without losing $200 on those wierd outliers

@@saladgreens912 to be fair I don't actually know what the comparison is. And Australia is a big arse country. I'm sure it's much more expensive to get something to Alice Springs than metro Melbourne. But it's about the same to get something here as Europe as far as I can figure.

If anything the volume of european orders shows that you really need to sort out distribution outside of Canada and North America. The only time id ever consider ordering is when you have discounted shipping internationally because it often doubles the price of the order.

You need to address the Europe shipping if you want to sell more here! I have the last months/years fill the lttsore basket multiple ocasions with more then 100$ to later cancel due to the insane shipping costs, not accounting for the possible customshouse fees...
