A few years ago, my neighbors Japanese Maple blew seeds into my yard and one sprouted. So I dug it up and potted it. It is now 5 feet tall(including the pot) and beautiful. Until I saw your video, I did not know how lucky I was that it sprouted. BTW, you are the Rhoddy King!

Beautiful. We live in an area that used to be sugar cane land and also possibly near a road way. The soil is very hard. Even after adding compost, mulch, and other soil products. The soil seems to dry out and get compacted. I’m inspired to get a Japanese Maple, but they are hard to find at garden shops and nurseries here in Hawaii. My gladiolus doesn’t well. Will try rhododendron, too.

Whoa, whoa, whoa ! Don’t be ruining your reputation! If I recall correctly, several of Dan’s seeds sprouted, but the birds raided the hoop house and propagation tote. Daggum, you’ve got a lot of pretty growing on your property. Between the trees, flowers, Shelllie’s smile, and your cubs, how do you take it?!?😉 I dig the T-shirt. Looks like you enjoyed the vacation too!

Mike, I've watched your growing Japanese Maples from seed videos, but I have an issue: my Japanese Maple is dropping it seeds NOW, not in the fall. I live in zone 6, any ideas? Thanks, Joyce
@MikeKincaid792 жыл бұрын
Hey Joyce, that's perfectly normal for the trees to drop some seeds in the spring. They just aren't viable. The viable seeds will hang on until fall and those are the ones you want to collect. If all the seeds are falling then you may have another problem such as the tree not getting enough water.

@@MikeKincaid79 Might want to wait till Fall. It's going to be above average for this time of year, up to 100F for a few days of dry heat and I love it. That little maple is going to be fantastic standing against the green and flowers. I hope it turns into a natural bonsai as many Japanese maples do.

@MikeKincaid792 жыл бұрын
If they’re Japanese maples then they need to stay on the tree until fully matured. Don’t pick them until fall, when the leaves start falling from the trees

Hello Mike. I am writing from Pakistan and I want to let you know I am part of big fan group of yours over here. My post is not related to this video but since this one's the latest, I want to ask you something. Is it possible to root a cutting from a pecan plant/tree using your method? I mean you have been successful with it with a variety of plants so I am very very curious as to how it might go with pecans. I really want to give it a try..??
@MikeKincaid792 жыл бұрын
I'll bet it could be done, although I've never tried it. I'll have to keep my eyes open and look for a pecan tree that I can try that with.

Thank you. I hope you do find one soon. Meantime, I'll start off with mine. Fingers crossed!

@MikeKincaid792 жыл бұрын
Thanks Wayne! I did tease the roots if you watch closely. I think it's in the sped up part. The rhododendrons weren't root bound and could have stayed in the pots another year so they didn't really need to get roughed up.

Not sure. I think your best bet is to buy a couple small trees and in a few years you'll have all the seeds you want.

Mike, Maybe you could sell some of the seeds to us viewers when the maple gets big, if you're still on KZbin then.

I plan to be here as long as you keep watching. I've gotten a lot of requests for seeds but there just aren't enough to go around and not enough time in the day to collect them all. I think the only fair way to do it is to have a giveaway at some point and a few lucky people will get them. I'll have to put some thought into how that will work so it's fair for everyone.
