Hey everyone I’m Abbey Sharp welcome to Abbey’s Kitchen. In todays video, we will be talking about MY NEW BRAND!!!! It's been over 2 whole years in the making and I'm so, so excited to finally tell you all about it.
Try Something Neue at www.neuetheory.com and be the first to pre-order my new Plant-Based Probiotic Protein Powders and Neue Theory Essential Shaker! Pre-orders will be delivered in March!
As a dietitian, I have long been an advocate for a well planned supplement regimen to help take the guesswork out of eating well. But, I’ve also made it clear that the supplement world as we know it today is a bit of the Wild West. It’s oversaturated, overcomplicated and typically leaves people feeling more confused than confident that their diet needs are (or are not) being met. And because the supplement industry is not well regulated, it’s up to the consumer to discern if a product is effective, safe or even contains what it claims. Understandably, it’s hard to relinquish diet control when you’re completely left in the dark.
My goal for neue theory is to make nutrition easy, effortless, and more intuitive for you. To take one big wellness decision fully off your plate. We know your health is a huge responsibility, which is why we set out to develop products you can wholeheartedly trust. Clear transparency, evidence-based ingredients and doses that actually work.
Remember, wellness is more than just vitamins, bubble baths and HIIT. It’s giving yourself the space for your diet to be imperfect, spontaneous, and messy, while taking small actions to effortlessly help you still feel your best.
We look forward to welcoming you to the neue theory family, consider us your daily dose of self care!

@@AbbeysKitchen 20 servings and for this you charge £52 in the UK? Instead of using your platform and your voice and the following to promote healthy eating without the need for expensive supplements or protein powders, you are now using your platform to sell an entirely overpriced product that one in fact doesn’t need if one follows a simple healthy and balanced diet? Shameful, truly shameful.

As a GI NP, we never recommend digestive enzymes to anyone that doesn’t have the labs and symptoms to show there is an issue. There is emerging research in the gut micro biome,but not enough for us to adopt guidelines on this. It’s well established that a varied diet is how you get healthy microbes in the small intestine and large intestine. As for protein powders, like alarm fatigue, I have supplement fatigue and I’m just out. I’m tired of finding professionals I love to listen to only to be hit with another sales pitch for their proprietary products. Thought this was different.

“For my brand, I am all about transparency” yet then doesn’t have accessible third party testing and when asked about it has a cut and paste response saying that it’s too complicated for lay people so you need to wait for us to dumb it down essentially.. this whole thing is just screaming money grab. Selling a crazy expensive shaker bottle and then $65 pea protein for a wild $3.25 per serving is just asinine. You’re not reinventing the wheel, it’s protein powder and there are a ton of great quality protein powders that are on the market for a fraction of the cost. It’s so tone deaf and if this wasn’t her own brand I’m sure abbey would be going off about this because she always finds a reason to pick things apart for not being enough. This just leaves such a bad taste in my mouth and I’m glad people are voicing their opinions on this. No one asked for this.

Hey there. Sure - there are definitely protein products on the market that are much cheaper. And it is completely your prerogative to use those. But this product really isn't comparable to standard whey or pea protein products because it's a 2-in-1 product offering two top performing, gut friendly, probiotic strains. These are very expensive. I use an equivalent probiotic product with 20% less CFUs for 20 servings that retails for $35 US alone. I did a full video on the pricing strategy here: instagram.com/reel/C3_BWrZxc1t/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== It's worth watching. We did a huge competitive analysis for similar products (even though ours IS different) and we are right in the pocket for pricing. If I was going to build the best product, I wasn't willing to cut corners to bring the price down.

I’ve been watching your channel for ages & I hope you’ll read this even though it’s long- none of this is from a bitter or hateful place. I wanted to be excited about this news for you but it is somewhat disappointing. The pricing for only 20 servings is not accessible- I understand that producing a quality product is more expensive than most people realize, & not every product has to be accessible to every consumer, but it is still off-putting. That aside- even if there’s no way the actual supplement could have a lower price point, can you see how selling the $39 “essential” shaker bottle so highly might lend doubt to the validity of the supplement price? I don’t want to undervalue your efforts by focusing solely on the money, but the prohibitive pricing forces money to be the focus for so much of your audience. Since many people in the comments seem to agree with that sentiment, I didn’t feel I had much to contribute until I read your responses specifically to comments referring to you as an influencer/youtuber. Your audience is well aware that you are a registered dietitian and a science communicator, and I think overall we respect that. You can say you’re not an influencer, and you can say that you don’t consider yourself a youtuber- but you are! and that is not at all a bad thing! Your objections to those titles come off as though you think they’re beneath you, when in reality they lift you up as a dietitian and as a science communicator. That amplified voice you gain from being an influencer *AND* an RD means that it is even more important that you recognize the greater impact that you obviously have, including when people criticize you as an influencer, and denying that feels almost dismissive. I feel like that may sound more harsh than I intended, but I was left with an icky feeling after reading those responses- especially from a creator I respect. Again, no hate. Just something I genuinely hope you’ll consider.

It doesn't feel like you actually want to hear what your audience thinks, even though you said you did...its hard to take criticism for something you worked so hard on but at the end of the day, if most of your audience is unable to purchase and use this revolutionary product then what good is it really doing? That's why your motives are being questioned. It doesnt make sense to justify the cost by saying you wanted to make the best product possible, if a) the product is unavailable to most people and b) the science doesn't support your claims. There's not many good reasons behind making something so expensive its unavailable to most of your demographic.

I don't think I've ever been this disappointed by a content creator product launch ever, my heart was sinking like a stone watching this. there is so much wrong with this, and the hypocrisy is glaring: no information readily available about the source of ingredients, no easily accessible information about third party testing, and the cost is outrageous. I'm in the UK and one single bag of protein (20 servings) and shipping would cost me eighty pounds (so around £4 per serve), and not even last me the whole month if I were to use it daily. and it's a completely unnecessary product - as Abbey has told us so many times, it's a waste of money, we may as well just eat a varied diet and get on with our lives.

@@221beckyI don’t think she ever called protein powder unnecessary or a waste of money, especially because she herself always used protein powder. It is not necessary, but it can be helpful to those of us who are struggling to meet our protein goals sometimes. Especially for athletes with certain restrictions due to ethical or health reasons (e.g. allergies) protein powder can be very helpful or to people trying to lose weight. That being said, it’s not necessary to supplement with protein powder and most people can meet their needs with a balanced diet. I also agree with a lot of other things you wrote, just wanted to clarify Abbey’s stance on protein powder and offer the perspective of someone who sometimes needs protein powder to meet their needs (allergies, sensitivities, and 10-15 h of exercise each week)

A lot of information you've given has been life changing for me and I truly believe you believe in this product and that your intentions are genuine here. I hope you can take a step back and see this experience as a growing opportunity. I encourage you to listen to those that you consider your consumers. Every business owner/entrepreneur has experienced mis-stepping and I'm very proud of your pride and hard work. I'm happy for you finally being able to reveal 2 years of work and I wanted to at least acknowledge that. Part of my concern here is that you put into practice some of the things you criticize in other influencers. I can tell that you are trying to be careful to make the product desirable (marketing is necessary, obviously) while not making definite health claims, but you give the same feeling that this product will be the magic thing that will be different for someone's symptoms, just without the blatant claims. I have specific examples, but it doesn't feel appropriate to mention these specifics in a comment, as this comment is already excessively long. I still believe in you, but this definitely feels like a mis-step. I don't blame people for not wanting to watch you anymore.

Protein that is accessible to all is: protein that’s part of the food you eat. Period, end of story. Think peanut butter on celery, yogurt, rotisserie chicken that is great for snacking on (and most grocery stores make already cooked), beans, nuts, fish- the list is endless and too long for me to finish. No one needs to spend money on protein powder. If you decide to get use, you can get it much, much, cheaper than this.

Ok, so you have FAQs on your website, but why add the extra step to have to email customer service to get the actual third party testing information? It discourages a lot of people from getting that information. What's the issue with having a section on the website that provides links and information on the third party testing? Is it purely to protect the formula? Not much transparency there. The other issue is the cost. I get that premium ingredients cost a premium amount, and I appreciate your team putting in that effort to get these results. But who is this designed for? Even if it does end up being better than other similar products, the majority of your audience cannot afford this once, much less on a regular basis. It's the same issue as Zach Kornfeld's Zadiko Tea. I tried it once, expensive, really good, but I couldn't afford to keep getting it, and I'm right smack in the middle class income bracket. It ended up getting bought out because it wasn't getting the sales he needed to keep it (I could have some details wrong, but that's the gist I think). How long do you want to last before it's unsustainable because people can't afford it or don't see the point. $3.25 per drink...a decent budget and simple meal planning gets you nutrition as good, if not better and more bioavailable, for a lower cost. So, who is this designed for really? You preach that the supplement market is geared towards the rich, and now you're no better.

Thanks for this comment. Soem great questions in here. First thing's first: FOOD IS ALWAYS FIRST. A good supplement regimen to help get all of the nutrients you need is complimentary to food. If you can get all of your nutrients in with food only, then that is priority, but the reality is most people can't. What some people aren't realizing is that this is a 2-in-1 product: protein powder AND probiotic. When we did the math, this product is LESS expensive than having to buy both. I did a video over on Insta to clear up the pricing strategy a bit more: instagram.com/reel/C3_BWrZxc1t/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== I just wasn't willing to cut corners and I totally respect that this product won't be for everyone. Regarding third party testing - we promise to have the results on the website next week. The redirect was for anyone wanting them asap as we couldn't figure out the best way to get them up in a timely manner. We are fixing it.

In this economy sadly $65 for only 20 serving is just not within my budget. I drink one a day with my exercise routine, and it's just too pricey to have to pay $195 (w/o shipping or tax every 2 months) just to have one shake a day. Wishing you the best, and I'm happy you could make something you're proud of, just a little sad that its outside my budget. My excitement immediately diminished as I now know that this will be over $100 CDN for only 20 servings. BUT, I do think it would be worth checking out the Insta video I did on pricing to fully understand how this is so much more than a protein powder and really shouldn't be compared to a traditional pea or whey protein. I checked your website and one recommendation I would make is that you have single serve packets available at a much lower price. $65 ( not including shipping) is a lot for a product people have never had and it’s triple the price of a decent protein powder people can get off the shelf at Target. Brief question - has anyone else who commented and replied directly to a comment from Abbey’s Kitchen had their reply removed if it commented on the high prize of the supplement? I also replied that I just find it a bit outrageous to charge this much money for a 20 serving supplement that’s really not necessary - only to then find that my reply has been removed I usually don’t get bent out of shape over these things but this I do object to. Unless there is a prob with my KZbin nothing in my comment was objectionable or rude nor was bad language used / simply expressed my opinion

This feels a lot like a vegan creator trying to sell me a meat subscription box. I'm not saying what you are selling isn't great but it feel somewhat antithetical to your brand? I feel like a meal kit similar to hello fresh would have made more sense to me? Those are a logistical nightmares and a lot of work and probably require venture capitalist amounts of start up money BUT I can't help but think that would have fit you better! I do appreciate the transparency in what probiotics you chose and why and while i wish that mattered to the average person, even your average viewer, I dont think it matters enough for this very high priced product. I feel I've been seeing a lot of criticism towards ya and I get it to some degree. I actually think it would maybe have benefitted you to release a pro biotic and protein supplement separately so the price of each could be lower. For me, I'd like to support you. I take protein powder as is. I dont need a probiotic personally. I eat kimchi every day and my gut seems pretty healthy, so for me this product is unnecessary. Additionally I love real chocolate so I know the cost of real cocoa but your decision to use real cocoa and vanilla bean feels like you're saying, "We're using real whole foods and not those highly processed ones" which is not what you said, but is the type of thing I've seen you call out so that also feels antithetical to your brand? Maybe I'm overanalyzing and maybe you'll sell a ton and I'm wrong. I am so genuinely curious on what the profit margins on a product like this are. Obviously youve spent a LOT of time on R&D. But if the powder costs you $2 to make 20 servings, packaging and all, and you genuinely wanna change the supplement industry, that would start with being highly competitive with price. Im not saying it does cost that, and youre under no obligation to share that. But just something to think about. Best of luck
@AbbeysKitchen
@AbbeysKitchen 3 ай бұрын
I wish it only cost us $2 😅 This is not a matter of me adding an insane margin. Quite the opposite actually (especially once we factor in how much we are eating on shipping, promo codes etc). One thing that may be missed is that this is two supplements in one. A full clinical dosage of premium spore-formign probiotics PLUS complete protein. And not just pea protein, we’ve added additional leucine, glutamine, ashwaganda, sour cherry and proteolytic enzymes to significantly improve the amino acid bioavailability and stimulate muslce protein synthesis. and fyi, plant based protein naturally does not contain enough leucine to stimulate muscle growth which is why we paid more to top it up. These probiotics are also premium strains that are not only the most stable and efficient at improving digestive health, but theyre also the safest for sensitive guts. not all probiotics are safe. I’ve been personally taking spore forming probiotics since my SIBO journey and the brand I buy costs 35 USD for 20 servings for 20% fewer CFUs as whats in our 2-in-1. so to compare neue theory to a standard whey or pea protein isnt taking into consideration that this is meant to replace two supplements. but my team and I had to make decisions early on about price in the formulation process. Because ultimately what I learned was that good quality ingredients with clinical dosages that actually work and are not just window dressing as we see with a lot of supplements, cost more money. Third party testing also costs a ton of money which is why most supplement brands dont do it. its not mandatory and it costs a fortune. I had to make a decision from the get go if i was going to compromise on clinical dosages and safely, therefore compromise on my own professional integrity and values, or if i was going to make the lowest price product i could. and of course, the science comes first.

You pretty much only responded saying it cost more than $2 (which I 100% believe, I simply threw out a low number because I'm sure you know some influencer profit margins are CRAZY). You instead wanted to tell me how it's a 2 in 1 product, which I already knew because I addressed that in my comment stating that the protein interests me, the pro biotic does not. I'm also vegan so I am used to paying a premium on protein and am not comparing your product to whey. I am comparing it to competition on the market. It's like you didn't read my comment and just copy pasted a bunch of pre planned talking points? I don't know. Your response leaves a worse taste in my mouth than before you commented.

I like the actual product in theory after hearing the reasoning behind the formulation. And, I like that instead of only calling out the issues (which is in and of itself a service to people), she is trying to work toward part of a solution for some people. This channel draws critique-hungry folks, like myself. One of my suggestions might be to harness the same tone used in other videos and then to talk about hearing what viewers are requesting and seeing how it would be a worthy project. My other? The cost is prohibitive for many Americans.

Thanks for your comment, and I totally hear you. Pricing was something we thought long and hard on early on in the formulation process. Ultimately, what I learned was that good quality supplements in clinical dosages that actually work do cost more money. We priced these as competitively as we could without compromising on high-quality ingredients. This is a true two in one, meaning you are getting the benefits of high quality probiotics (which often retail for around the same cost as this entire supplement, not including the protein) PLUS the complete protein and other functional ingredients. We also engage in extensive third party testing (which costs a lot of money). I just wasn’t willing to short change my followers by compromising on quality, efficacy or third-party testing. We believe that what we’re offering is of incredible value, but I understand if it’s currently out of reach.

I understand the 2-in-1 product, and of course that would cost more, and coagulans and subtilis are the only truly colony-forming probiotics, so good job there. But, they aren't expensive. I'm in Canada and even with the exchange rate I get 2 months worth of coagulans from Iherb for just over $16 CD. And you don't need both strains, one is ideal. So that's $8 CD per month. Therefore there is no reason even a protein powder containing these strains should be so exorbitant. And the cost of the shaker...come on, you can't even try and justify those profit margins.
