Mediatek Dimensity 1000-series and 9000-series have AV1 decoder. So does Samsung Exynos 2100/2200. Qualcomm should introduce support next year. But all these are flagship SoCs. Android 14 is supposed to require AV1 decoder so probably in 2023-24 we see adoption rate to increase.

I'm pretty sure streaming services won't support AV1 native ingest any time soon (mostly because real time encoding issues and hardware costs add up). I'm sure they'll re-encode the H.264 ingest into AV1 at some point via transcoding (at the expense of extra stream delay between streamer / viewer), but you deal with the same hardware-related issue, which is real-time AV1 decoding. This works a lot better for VOD platforms/ content (such as YT), yet again, you'd need supported hardware to match it. Even these AV1 encoded videos uploaded to YT, are being re-encoded to VP9, which only makes it "usable" for the users with capable hardware, for storage purposes. On a side note (pun totally intended), are you using a new software for the benchmark graphs? They look pretty smooth 👍🏻
@EposVox2 жыл бұрын
Real-time decoding is a nonissue. Especially for most streams being 1080p or 720p. KZbin is ramping up their hardware encoding pipeline and has been for years. They’re definitely getting ready for streaming. Twitch originally had a roadmap for it for by early 2023 but their engineers on that side have changed so it’s unclear where they stand atm I have an awesome assistant editor Wyatt making the graphs now. They rule :)
@sidesketch2 жыл бұрын
@@EposVox Oh, but AV1 decoding is still an issue for users who aren't sitting on a 30 Series+ GPU and many users are forced sometimes to disable hardware acceleration in their browsers / systems to make other functions work properly or get rid of video/audio sync issues. Intel's SVT-AV1 libraries are supported on 5th Gen+ chips, but the performance hit is quite substantial. I've only tested it on my old 8086K chip, and AV1 decoding can demand up to 25% more CPU usage, compared to other codecs. Could be a good video idea, if you had chips around from 8-9th Gen and forward, and see the AV1 decoding performance hit, compared to AVC/VP9 on streamlined platforms. Also, kuddos to Whyatt 👍
@Deznere2 жыл бұрын
I'd wait until 7900XT and XTX come out... If their new encoder is actually substantial. It already potentially surpasses the 4080 in gaming based on leaked benchmarks as well as price (not including RT). Hopefully this AMD and OBS partnership actually means something and AMD has something to match Nvidia broadcast.
@EposVox2 жыл бұрын
The AMD “partnership” is mostly marketing fluff. To their credit they are now a Diamond sponsor of OBs, but what they were referring to with the integration was just the encoder update in 28 But I agree.
