This is a great video for planning our course and on-deck strategies. There is a lot to learn from these bloopers and mess-ups.

Yeah. Handling a spinnaker in stressful situations like a regatta is difficult and sometimes mishaps happen. How very funny... :/

Sorry but setting a spinnaker with the clew attached to halyard is always going to be funny

That sail being hoisted by the clew, whoever did that is never going to live that down.

LOL at 1:02 The head was tied to the tack line hahaha. Foredeck crew must have been drunk.
@nebraskatpp10 жыл бұрын
Many lubricated crews have done that very thing. Best to just fly it as well as you can and take care of it when going back up wind again. AND if you are headed to the finish... get it down or suffer the equivalent of the 'Walk of Shame'
@MrMedicAdnan10 жыл бұрын
nebraskatpp I have worked foredeck on over 100 successful races and never hooked the tack to the spinnaker halyard, however I did connect tack to spinnaker sheets and we won that race... Doyle sails sure fly well :)

Adnan Medic I was a professional sailor for over seventeen years on the southern gulf coast. I understand how those mixups can happen. I even have some photos of some of our more colorful leaders getting their chutes upside down and sideways... making sure to display them prominently in our retail store for all to see.... hey you guys take your funny pokes at us everytime you get the chance. LOL

This summer a boat behind us flew their kite like that. They didn't seem to be loosing at all to other boats. Luckily the wind shifted and they didn't need to gybe.
@MrMedicAdnan9 жыл бұрын
+sailawayteam I work foredeck and our raves are usually on Saturday morning and sometimes late nights happen so I connect Clew to Tack, we flew the spinnaker like that, won the race and didnt even realize it till we saw the pictures few days after.

For me it was fun. The shock, stress, adrenaline crew of each vessel should have been an extraordinary experience. The event occurs in seconds and within seconds the crew has to respond. But it is normal for weekend warriors. I envy a good way. In the end it says a total disaster, but fun. That's what life is all about, see things in positive way.

It appears that some of those crews need some heavy weather racing practice.... and some just need practice to understand how the running rigging works.
