If you say “You are on a deserted island” it means there used to be people on the island but they left
@gregh74574 жыл бұрын
No, it can also mean uninhabited: deserted - forsaken by owner or inhabitants ; "weed-grown yard of an abandoned farmhouse" abandoned, derelict uninhabited - not having inhabitants; not lived in; "an uninhabited island";
@gregh74574 жыл бұрын
@OneLoveDrumz i enjoy the Idiosyncrasies of the english language and this word is one of those words that people scratch their heads about. Most people think "deserted" means its like a desert as in hot with catcus while others think it was inhabited once but abandoned it. There are islands that are so far from civilization and have no reliable source of fresh water that its impossible for anyone to have lived there except for passerby fisherman that stay for a night or 2, but yet they are called "deserted islands" From websters dictionary: "the definition is simply "an island where no people live," so the desert in desert island is actually an archaic form of deserted: it refers to an island that is uninhabited" www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/what-is-the-desert-in-desert-island
