Basically what happened was that during WW2, an Ukrainian extremist named Bandera and his men commited a massive and brutal massacre of Polish civilians living in Ukraine in the region of Wołyń. And the bodies were just left to rot in the fields, swamps, forests. All that Poland wants is that Ukrainian authorities issue an official apology and let the bodies be found and buried properly. And WW2 wasn't all that long ago. There are still people alive whose families, parents or grandparents were murdered there. And it's pretty important to them. The reason Ukraine doesn't want to do this is beacsue most of the Ukrainians aren't even aware that such a thing happened. It isn't taught in school nor discussed publicly by Ukrainian historians. And that Bandera guy is considered one of the national heroes and 'founding fathers' of the modern Ukrainian state after WW2. At least that's how I understand it. If someone wants to make a correction, feel free to do so. edit: the estimates vary, but the total number of victims is said to be anywhere from 50 to 120 thousand people
