WW1 started because an Austrian was shot, and Germany was stupid enough to assist the warmongering Austrians (who then managed to slip the blame to Germany). WW2 started because an Austrian WASN'T shot, and Germany was stupid enough to let him immigrate and grant him full citizenship. So it all comes down to AUSTRIA being the warhawks, and Germany being stupid with its choice of allies and whom they let come into their country.

portugal and spain basically were tired of always running into each other. both kingdoms wanted to take over the world, but they didn't want to be constantly wasting resources fighting each other over land. portugal, during its expedition to cross from the atlantic to the indian ocean by finally passing the cape of good hope in order to get a new way to reach india, had spotted the land that is now brazil. they didn't really know what it was, just that there was land there, they thought it could be a different way to reach asia, which is why they rejected colombus when he asked the portuguese crown to pay for his expedition, they wanted a portuguese explorer to go there. and so when spain and portugal were coming up with the way to divide the world in half, portugal decided to be sneaky and put the division right on the shore they had spotted during their travel to india so they could explore that land. and because spain was busy with the rest of the american continent, it allowed portugal to keep pushing the border of their new found colony
