This was such a great Courage story. This was the exact kind of Courage movie I would imagine as a kid; Finding the source of Nowhere's supernatural activity, a final battle under an apocalyptic red sky, Courage having a big revelation about his name... It's like Courage: the Movie (... Guest starring Mystery Inc.)
@peterherndon35372 жыл бұрын
But, why wait for a crossover to reveal source of all strange happenings in nowhere (shouldn't that be for a series finale) and to be honest the ending bullshit and a major let down based on the logic of visiting characters and the host logic ( like the writer couldn't give it an adventure that went on and ended while Scooby and gang were there without ruining the grand mystery and bizarreness of courage's world, not to mention why do you think Mystery Inc (the series) wasn't popular during it's run time ,Scooby-Doo's main selling point is strange things happen usually caused by some kind of monster (with instants of see the monster/monsters being limited to one specific house/location/contained areas, they just so happen to be passing through and learn about the happenings while offering to help, do some investigating on the monster/where the monster usually is, set a trap for the monster, catch the monster, and ultimately learn it's just a normal person in mask breaking the law in some kind of way worth going to jail for with the location their terrorizing being somewhere they used to work or where something of value is hidden or said to be located at/in)

This really was such a nice send-off for Courage. Due to CN's way of thinking, I don't think they will ever bring Courage/John Dilworth back. I was on edge when I first saw the trailer, but I have to say it: It was really good. Obviously its not on the same scale as a real Courage episode, but it was the closest thing we will get for who knows long. I am a passionate Courage fan. I watched every episode live (not re-runs) and advocate of how unique/funny yet dark this show could be. We got so many cameos, hearing Courage talk and Muriel (rip Thea T^T I miss you). I couldn't stop tearing up. The speech Shaggy gave Courage and Scooby was on par with the Muriel finding Courage episode. I see people bringing up that the gang was barely involved, but thats okay because at the end of the day, thats what works so well about this movie. Its about COURAGE, not Scooby and the gang. Besides the cringy rap, I think everything was spot on. The fact we finally got some kind of closure about the town of Nowhere and why its so weird, that certain villains were involved. This was a love letter to Courage. Anyone hating on it for the fact John wasn't a part of it or it doesn't feel the same, thats your opinion and don't make other feel bad bc we don't agree with you. I am curious to see how John feels about it, yes he said he wasnt involved but it would be nice if he made some kind of statement. Either way, thank you WB. Thank you so much for giving us more Courage and showing there's still love for that loveable pink lil puff ball.

@BlythePennyBicycle213 жыл бұрын
A red flag that was raised for most people is with how series creator John R. Dilworth wasn't involved with this crossover. However, there was more optimism with the revelation of this movie being written by Michael Ryan. He's had a good deal of experience with Scooby Doo. He was story editor for season 1 of Johnny Bravo, with the Scooby Doo crossover being one of the episodes he wrote. He would later be story editor for season 2 of Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated, and be story editor of Scooby Doo And Guess Who (the premise of this movie was originally going to be an episode of the series). He also worked on two Scooby Doo movies (2013's Mask Of The Blue Falcon and 2014's WrestleMania Mystery).

Exactly, my thing is I wonder if he talked to the creator at all (even though they said they had no involvement) it’s like idk I would still feel obligated to call and at least get his opinion on it since he made the show and honestly they were very much same is in the show. Someone said it’s 40% Scooby doo and 60% courage and I love that. I just hope the creator enjoyed some of it or at least liked it and said it was a good homage to the show.
@ambernoel70103 жыл бұрын
@Will N I think when it comes to crossovers and standalone films WB gives the creators more creative freedom. I think most of the descions for happy Halloween were made by Maxwell atoms himself I will say however that the twist suffered because it was connected to RTZI and thirteen ghost as for the sword and the scoob that was more of a standlone film so having the monster be fake didn't matter. Also noticed that Velma was toned down a bit because she believed that the time travel is real it wasn't but yeah she believed that it was their was also a supernatural element at the end which I'm not going to spoil.

Personally, I'm glad the writers had enough respect over the Courage the Cowardy Dog show to not step over their boundaries and sour it in trying take it fit the Scooby-Doo direct to DVD movie mold. People who have seen some of the newest Scooby flicks knows what I mean. I was skeptical at first when I heard they would be exploring the origins and source of the weirdness and spookyness of Nowhere, but I was hapy to see them embrace the madness of Courage rather than have Velma try to force out that it was all fake or some hallucination in the way they did with the 13 Ghosts or Zombie Island sequels. While still having the structure of a Scooby movie they did right enough to know that if you're crossing over scooby with something you gotta play with the strengths of what he's is crossing over with (A good set of examples are the KISS crossover that is one hell of mind trip fitting for the band in question, or even Scoohynatural)
@StarMechV3 жыл бұрын
@Will N Which is exactly why I'm surprised they didn't try to pull off any of that in this flick. Even lampshaded it right out at the end where they find who the culprit is (which I won't spoil). WB understood that they couldn't do that to Courage

This movie was really enjoyable and my favorite aspect of it was how it respected Courage as a character. Even though Courage is a timid dog who is spooked by the monsters he goes up against, he constantly faces his fears to save his loved ones. Courage’s name isn’t an ironic joke, but an apt description of who he is, and I’m glad that the movie not only recognizes this, but really brings the theme of true courage. From Courage, Scooby, and Shaggy consulting with the self-help app and bonding over their shared fears, to the awesome climax with Courage facing off the Cicada Queen in order to save Muriel, The Mystery Machine Gang, and the town of Nowhere. Also, Courage and Scooby-Doo are a match made in Heaven. I love how they become best friends and they had a lot of adorable interactions together!

Big Scooby-Doo fan here. I loved Courage when I was younger and was happy to see a crossover finally in the works earlier this year. I’ve been a fan of both since I was either 3-4 years old in 2005-6. Where are you has always been my favorite! The atmosphere, characters, villains, music, comedy, classic locations, tropes being born, and so much more makes that show my favorite. Bring myself forward to now (19) still keeping my childhood in tact I can’t really call myself a true Scooby-Doo fan. I don’t like the shows past 1988’s Pup named Scooby-Doo, I do like most of the movies like Witches Ghost, Zombie island, Alien Invaders, Camp Scare, Meets Batman brave and the bold, The lochness monster, and a few more. I do love the PS2 trilogy of games too, Night of 100 frights, Mystery Mayhem, and unmasked. Most of the Scooby-Doo stuff I love consists of the beginning. Where are You is still my favorite, The new Scooby-Doo movies (when they meet celebrities and fictional celebrities. Now “Guess Who” is doing that gimmick again), the Scooby-Doo Show ‘77, the Scooby-Doo and Scrappy trilogy show, Boo Brothers, Pup Named Scooby-Doo, and the movies as I mentioned. The Live action movies while nostalgic aren’t very Scooby esc to me and I can’t fully enjoy them like I once did. I’m one of the rare Scooby fans who doesn’t like Mystery Incorporated too! Explanation? I just never got attached to the characters then. Also Every show past the 80’s has little to no memorable villains so much so that Be Cool Scooby-Doo remade/reused multiple villains for that show. If I said Spooky Space kook, Phantom Shadow, Black Knight, Headless Spectre, Creeper, Minor 49’er, or Phantom Puppeteer every fan would know who I’m talking about . I can’t remember one villain past the 90’s besides MAIN bad guys for overarching plots I’m very happy to see a new modern Scooby thing that looks enjoyable. I feel sad sometimes seeing new shows and movies come along I shrug to, while when I was a kid I would’ve been super happy to pick it up, maybe the feeling can return here. Very happy to see Courage return after all these years too, as you said he’s the highlight with Scooby himself! R.I.P to all that passed, I won’t forget you and your memorable performances. Thank you for the review my friend. Great energy and fun as always Also that bridge gag was done first by Scooby, Shaggy, and Scrappy back in 1988’s Boo Brothers film, so the Fast gang has someone to thank first. Hehe

Just recently watched the movie myself, and have to comment on the 3D part of the movie. That, along with the weird 60fps choice of just *some* scenes, took me a bit to process. But I think both were intentional. Courage has a history of using clashing art styles to make the horror far more palpable, so while it was jarring, I think that was for the better. This *certainly* isn't the first time they used 3d renders in Courage.

I believe that the somewhat jarring 3D moments were also meant as a reference to how often Courage would make use of that resource. When it comes to photo-realistic gags thrown here and there, Courage was the precursor to other CN shows like Flapjack and Chowder; while SpongeBob was doing the same thing on Nickelodeon around the same time. But there is one key difference: 3D animation was a novelty back then and more expensive than what it is now. This film let us see what Courage would do if given a chance to exploit 3D animation more often. They get the opportunity not just to use 3D to generate disturbing imagery, but also as a complement to 2D animation.

Legit I was so hyped for this I can’t express how much childlike glee I felt getting relatively old school Scooby doo and the totally underappreciatied courage the cowardly dog.

It's so sad to know Muriel's voice actress passed away, the Latin American voice passed away back in 2018, so they had to change it, and it felt so sad to hear another voice on an iconic character of my childhood, so I'm happy to know that the original voice got to do it one last time

Scooby-Doo and Courage the cowardly dog are two of my favorite cartoons since my childhood, and this crossover film has done both of them justice. The animations are of a high standard. The plot mixes the typical elements of both cartoons well. The voice acting is excellent. The chemistry between Scooby, Shaggy and Courage is something that works because it is able to take advantage of what they have in common. Muriel is, as you said, the heart of the film. The fanservice to the Courage series made me smile more than once. If I really have to criticize something about this film, it is two things 👇 1) The flaw you mentioned about 2D and 3D animation put together. It may have been done to lighten the animation work or to pay homage to the Courage series, but in the end the result leaves much to be desired. 2) The ending, not completely to be thrown away but in my opinion a bit too hasty. Given who are the two main villains of the film (which I will not reveal so as not to spoil the surprise for those who are reading this comment and not yet seen the film), I would have liked to have seen them try one last time to get rid of the Mystery Incorporated and the Bagges after their unmasking, which actually has already happened in some Scooby-Doo adventures. In short, for me it was a very good film, except for a few flaws. My personal vote for it: 8/10.

I still haven't watched the movie, but from the clips in this video I like how Scooby-Doo and Courage really share the screen. It looks like the film really capitalizes on how Scooby and Courage are pretty similar characters, as they both get creative to solve their problems rather than using violence. From what I remember of when I used to watch Scooby-Doo cross over movies, I don't think whoever the special stars were would really interact with Scooby himself all that much, until it was time to catch the villain. Here it's nice that Courage and Scooby actually interact and work together through most of the movie.

The mix of 3D and 2D in places really clashes sometimes they didn't blend it good which is sad and kind of annoying because freaking Invader Zim was able to blend 2D and 3D animation well over a decade ago

Bit late to this video, but the only thing I really disagree on is the 3D. The 3D was always jarring in Courage and made for some of the most memorable scenes that people still have nightmares of today. If there wasn't 3D sticking out and looking "bad" it would have been slightly less of a Courage movie imo.
@Wolvesbane393 жыл бұрын
I loved this crossover. It was definitely more Courage heavy, but ti think that was a good thing. The Eustace rap.... could have been swapped for more cute moments with Scooby and Courage. I kept expecting "The secret ingredient is vinegar!" and that actually didn't happen! I was thinking Scooby and Shaggy would pause and then shrug like, "Like, it certainly works then!"

Before I get into my thoughts on the movie as a whole, I gotta say, the car chase was one of the highlights of the movie for me because, like a lot of the creepier moments in the movie, it was another instance of what made this crossover work- that was well beyond what I expect out of Scooby Doo. Not to say the monsters haven’t been violent in the past, but the Cicada Queen is out for the blood of everyone in both vehicles to a degree that was genuinely surprising as a long time Scooby fan and was exactly the kind of action I expect from Courage. Also, the rap number, while I can’t disagree that I was conflicted on it since that felt out of place for both series… it was also just so over the top and also perfectly fitting for Eustace specifically that I just couldn’t help finding it funny. That being said, I loved this movie as a longtime fan of both series. And what I think makes the movie work and why I think the Scooby gang being supporting characters (though I felt they still were focal enough that nobody felt supporting and that this was a really even footed crossover, but I digress) is just how Scooby typically handles crossovers. Usually, you get your Steve Urkel or your WWE wrestlers or even Batman who typically don’t run into monsters and mysteries… except how Batman’s a detective, but he’s not often dealing with Scooby level mysteries. And so the focus of most Scooby crossovers is how the guest stars react to the typical trappings of a Scooby Doo Hoax. But here, and why I felt the movie worked so well, is that for once, Scooby’s group is the visiting team and Courage has the home field advantage. The movie has Scooby and the gang dealing with legitimate supernatural phenomena and the typical Courage level monsters and mystical artifacts, so it makes sense why the Scooby gang aren’t as impactful to the plot or as focal to the story- because this time, it’s about how they react to Courage’s mysterious goings-on instead of Courage, Eustace, and Muriel reacting to a typical Scooby hoax, since there would be little difference at that point. Courage would still be scared, Eustace would still be a grumpy, greedy old coot, and Muriel would be a sweet, motherly figure to the Scooby gang. And they still blend in your typical Scooby hoax to a degree without trying to explain everything rationally and the result is a Scooby hoax spurred on by and magnified thanks to Courage’s typical straight up paranormal insanity, which is a perfect blending of both series’ takes on monster chasing. I loved the movie since it had a lot of fun interactions, was as said a perfect blend of both series’ strengths, and for just having plenty of fun sequences and moments that captured perfectly the Courage franchises’ genuinely creepy moments while also having plenty of moments of fun and heart, too. Like, seriously, when Courage reunites with Muriel any time in this movie, it melted my darn heart. And like I said, seeing how the Scooby gang react to Nowhere’s creepy atmosphere made it feel like leaning in to the Courage stuff a little more was a perfect decision. It was absolutely worth the wait.

I'm used to Muriel being the six foot ten inch ex-fighter with trauma with a pet wolf named Inanna from The Arcana so every time you said "Muriel" my brain went to hulking sad man but the reality is tiny happy old lady. I think both Muriels would get along splendidly. It's a real cute scenario to think about.

As someone who was only vaguely familiar with Courage (Though I've since started watching it) I enjoyed the movie. It makes sense that the film focuses more on the Courage universe than on the Scooby universe since we get new Scooby films every year while this was the first Courage production in a while. Fred and Daphne were never really major players in most Scooby media, so I really didn't notice much of a difference here. Good to hear that Frank Welker hasn't lost a step. I didn't mind the Eustace rap. I can see why others may not like it, but I thought it was rather amusing.
