man, when i think of this show (outside of the pretty cool Christmas/other Winter Holiday mash-up episode) i really think of the TV movie it aired around this big moment when Nick was just pouring out all kinds of movies every week or so. sometimes it was from one of their shows and sometimes it was just really random. like i think there was this Dennis the Menace movie i barely remember airing around the time for some reason.

9:39 This reminds me of being bullied and the teacher doing nothing about it even when I told them, but God forbid I should stand up for myself, then _I'd_ get in trouble! I grew up thinking, "why are adults such hypocrites?" "Why is it just 'kids will be kids' when I'm getting bullied, but 'how _dare_ you' when I fight back?" I swore that if I had a job like that, I'd be very strict on bullying. And I have. As a school bus driver, I've given several write-ups for bullying, making sure I've witnessed it first. I wouldn't want to be like that hypocrite and punish the person on the _receiving_ end, while letting the bully roam free.

Tell me about. I'm one of those quite people who been bullied since pre school and it didn't get any better as I got older especially when I began highschool. Time I start standing up for myself and fight back I'm the one who gets in trouble for it. Like you I also had a teacher who saw the incident and did nothing. Even if it is a thing in the past it makes me so mad that these bullies got away with it and it is still happening today but now there's school shootings and it hasn't got any better. Some kids who gets bullied end up committing suicide when the adults will not doing anything to stop the bullying. I'm glad you mentioned you work as a school bus driver and have sense enough to at least report the bullying. Thanks for the comment.

@lee1204582 жыл бұрын
If this is a antiheros backstory then what's odd about it is nothing is being done to stop the bullying. Even if the person being bullied report it to the teachers, school faculty and their parents, the bullying still continues. I remember an episode from Disney's "Filmore about bullying but the thing was when the victims who were being bullied starts fighting back on their own, all of a Sutton the school faculty wants to protect the people who started the bullying and making the victims the bad guy. To me that is not right. Those victims had every right to get back at those bullys if none of the faculty would not do anything. Last thing I remember at the end of the episode was " There going to be victims and there going to be bullys," I forgot what they said after that, but the thing about that episode was the victims starts fighting back and their the ones who ends up being punished for it.

I enjoyed this show a lot growing up, I really liked the idea that something you drew would go to a place and it was alive, that’s just a fantastic idea. The show is very lighter hearted, it doesn’t touch upon very serious topics, but I mean that in a good way, it was supposed to its was a cute little show that showed off creativity and was good at that. I also liked the characters, Rudy was a friendly, heroic and his drawing skills were amazing, and Penny served well as the brainy best friend who went on adventures with him and sometimes explained things to him and Snap. Much like with Manny and Frieda from El Tigre, I didn’t’ care that the main female and male leads being a couple was predictable, mostly because Rudy and penny are just so cute together, I think it was one of the first time I wanted to ship two characters. Snap was good at his role of showing how ChalkZone worked and was ready to help Rudy out in needed. I like how the episodes were segmented into parts, there was usually one that had Rudy, Penny and Snap together trying to solve a problem either in ChalkZone or the real world, another that was just set in ChalkZone and was focused on Snap, and a music video which were my usually my least favorite part, not that the songs were bad, I just felt it was extra padding. While ChalkZone was and still is not my favorite nick show, or even in the top ten of nick shows, I still liked it, it was cute, creative and could be funny. Also I remember that there was the one video a that a fan made a few years ago which showed Snap calling a adult Rudy and asking him if he remembers Chalkzone at all but Rudy just doesn’t answer, what really cool is that the creator heard of it and instead of being mad, he said it was awesome, more creators like that please!

I know this is most definitely never going to happen, but with nostalgia flaring up lately, Nickelodeon could bring ChalkZone back in some way. Again less likely, but it'd be nice.

I see ChalkZone, I click. Oh my goodness, this is definitely my favorite childhood show. I got to experience it thanks to CBS airing it (still consider that one of the luckiest things to happen in my life) and I can’t emphasize enough what level of imagination it captures. This is one of the few times I can see something, know ‘anything goes’ and it ends up making sense despite that! I wanted Snap as a friend, and he’s the reason why so many characters I’ve written are bouncy, zany, and sociable. Blocky’s super cute, and I wished to see him more often. I think of Old Lady in a Bathtub (yes that’s another character Rudy drew) every time I see a bathtub with those legs :P Queen Rapshiba and Penny are really great compliments to each other’s potential love interests, without it being in the face of the viewer that this could possibly be the case in the future. And Rudy? What a creative kid, always trying to think outside the box to solve situations. I feel this is one of the best cartoons that pull off being episodic with bits of continuity here and there, and Nick really did it dirty.

The lack of that ideal ending may be tragic, but this also gives someone the chance to create the ending they desire from their own perspective. Imagine years down the line where Rudy begins drawing less and less art and begins taking more and more notes. A confused Snap remarking on this gradual change as he sees his creator, his friend ultimately entering in for a degree that would "assure a job". The comforting doodles now arrive only by the rarest of instances as lines of text and possible formulae litter his creative spot. During one of those rare visits, simply done just to relax from days of study and research, our protagonist sits as an older shell of himself. He carries himself differently, speaks less intuitively, and rolls his eyes at Snap's attempts at friendliness. As the colorful, blue creation realizes his attempts are all in vain he laments as he just can't understand why his best friend isn't interested in the same old play as before. This creation, stuck in the very instant it was incepted and destroyed in one reality, just can't comprehend Rudy's change over time. Heartbroken, Snap confronts Rudy; he reprimands him saying how his increasingly cold nature isn't who he used to be. The changes of course, were all a result of his mind. A heated argument breaks and through this conflict a new adventure sparks and for the first time in perhaps years, Rudy once again uses his creative mind as he's restored to what he's passionate about. Heart heavy with regret, Rudy realizes what happened and what he lost. One at a time, he reminisces on the achievements of his past; from every minor doodle to each great fix. For one last day, he is immersed in the joy of his creations. Enough time has passed, and obligations begin to call Rudy away once more. Not before sitting one on one with his old friend. Rudy admits he was at fault, admits that he made decisions because he was told it was right but not because he felt it was right. At the same time, he embraces his closest creation before admitting that it's time for him to right what's wrong. In the tearful reunion, Rudy admits that he can't stay...and doesn't know if or when he'll return. The two separate, our protagonist will never forget. The scene now cuts to an adult Rudy, leading an art class as he learns to share his passion with the world. On the side, he is shown as a cartoonist that takes commissions for some extra cash. Only one day he finds a young student, constantly brimming with ideas yet held back by fear or bullies or some other means. He picks up that last piece of magic chalk, about halfway used. Nodding, he hands it down to the student. As the student realizes it's power and prepares to start their own adventure, Rudy sees a familiar face in the distance; his old friend, Snap. He sees Rudy, older and more accomplished. The two exchange a distant moment of remembrance before Rudy walks away, allowing the student to start their own adventure.

To this day, Chalk Zone remains as one of my all time favourite Nicktoons ever. The concept was genius and it blew my mind as a kid who was (and still is) obsessed with art. Nickelodeon didn't deserve this show.

I loved and miss chalk zone and it's always sad thinking about all the shows like it that I loved and didn't know why they had to end because I was young at the time but now know it was either ratings or some guy somewhere just didn't think it fit the channel anymore

I'm so happy to see someone sitting down and seriously talking about this show, what it was able to do, and how it was formative in so many of our childhoods. Chalkzone helped inspire me and so many others to keep practicing art and to "use the Chalk, Rudy, and draw somethin'!!!" Great introduction to the channel too, got me hooked and binging your content. Keep up the fantastic work!

this was a nice and fun way to look back on a show that while it meant a lot to me as a kid, i have trauma related to this show *because* it was there for me in those traumatic times. being able to come back to it like this, at this distance, just gave me a sense of wholeness i haven’t felt since, ever, i suppose. so thank you deeply!

Thank you so much for this video. I seen so many people not know this show or forget it exists and it just hurts my heart. This was one of the three shows that inspired me to draw.

You know I noticed that alot of the early 2000s shows were really unique from each other. You had shows about kids into science (Jimmy neutron), music (my dad the rockstar), art (chalk zone), kids with shitty families (fairly odd parents), and so on. They could appeal to a very wide range of kids and encourage an interest in things like science and art and music that are often being cut out of schools these days or they can just pick up some handy facts here and there and have fun. I have a kid now and the stuff available to him on tv are just cookie cutter versions of each other even down to that irritating cal arts style EVERYONE is using. The shows are either about super heros, dating (which seems inappropriate for little kids) or are overly political for absolutely no reason (think the new blues clues, new Powerpuff girls, etc). It's really sad

This was one of my favorite shows on Nickeloceon back in the day. I remember seeing the first episode at a friend's house and I loved how creative the show was, so I started watching it regularly even though it didn't have many episodes at the time. This show was to Nickelodeon what Sheep in the Big City was to Cartoon Network as in being the underdog of my favorite shows on the channels (though ChalkZone has at least gotten more videos talking about it than Sheep.)

I've though about your question when I was a kid too, and I can't believe how f'd up my mind got over the years because of the first thought that came to me right after you completed the question. Tho I remember wanting to draw a new computer and a pair of shoes.

I really wish they'd bring Chalkzone back. But at the same time, I kinda want them to also make it more like Gravity Falls, Amphibia, or Owl House. Have tons of fun with this concept, but also ask questions about it. How did the Chalkzone come to be? Who or what made it? What if Rudy and Penny aren't the only ones who know about the Chalkzone? Etc, etc.

I still remember this show. Back when I was a kid, whenever we where forced to do indoor recess one game my friends and I would sometimes play was "destroy chalk zone." We'd draw giant godzlla-style monsters of mass destruction, evil supervillains, nuclear missiles, bombs, black holes etc... and then immediately erase them just to draw more (which would then be erased...wash, rinse, and replete) in an effort to completely annihilate chalk zone. We didn't believe it was real or anything, but we had fun playing the bad guy and planning what horror we would force chalk zone to endure that day.Good times.

I honestly think Chalkzone do deserve better, especially the fact that I think Season 4 is the best season of the show. Fun fact, in 2016, I talk to the guys from NickSplat to add ChalkZone in their channel, and they did 😊.

OMG, I completely forgot about Chalkzone. There are a lot of cartoons I would like to rewatch and remember, and this one was something. I'm so happy to have recall this because it was such a fascinating show. The amount of imagination and creativity coming from Rudy's mind and then drawing those images to life, it was the best.
@JordanLester133 жыл бұрын
As an 18 year old who was too young to grow up on this show in its prime, even I can value Chalk Zone absent of any nostalgic factor. It reminds me of how teachers discouraged me from drawing in school cuz I would be way too invested in my doodling, haha! This show would be brilliant to bring back for this day and age honestly, I can see a lot of charm in this that is lacking in a lot of other properties.
