@@sir.raphimrevelator8644 SPOILER I disagree with you completely, which is fine. I think Rebirth “ruined” it intentionally. What happens if cloud doesn’t feel that loss? Doesn’t actually “turn on” when Aerith dies. He needed to lose her to be galvanized into action. They told a different story through gameplay. Aeriths theme being consumed by the Jenova theme during combat. Everyone having a full limit gauge at the start of the fight, EXCEPT Cloud. It felt wrong, and off, and I loved it. They’re cooking something, and I can’t wait to see what HORRIBLE thing happens.

I was that guy who used Aerith as a main character, she was my date at the gold saucer, and the one selected during the Don cross dressing minigame. I used her has a healer at first, but for some reason whenever I fought a boss they would never directly attack her and she survived so many bosses solo she ended being by my highest level character. I'm just very shocked that Connor managed to avoid all of the spoilers for FF7 after all this time! So, we got to see his actual emotions to realizing that Aerith was gone and not coming back (in that game). I'm happy he got to experience that moment first-hand. Also...happy he too realized just why this game is so damn good 😂. That's not to disparage the other FF games, but it's not without a plethora of reasons why this one has stood the test of time. But if your favorite FF game is different, hear me now, believe me later...Square Enix WILL be making a remake or remaster of it. FF7 is their biggest cash cow, so it makes sense to start off the remakes with it. But give it time...there's too much money to be made off of milking nostalgia. All of your favorite games will get a similar treatment. And honestly? I say good on 'em. People have wanted something similar as what's happening now with 7 for their favorite title for a long time, so why not go for it? I'm never going to play any FF game older than 7, so I'd love to play a 3D version of the earlier titles.

@@biscuit2928 Very personal opinion, but nothing I've seen and heard about 6 has made it look or sound more interesting for me than 7. Not saying 6 is awful (I've not played any version of it yet), but I really prefer the character designs and setting of 7 a lot more than 6.
@Edu27615
@Edu27615 2 ай бұрын
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley The thing is that 6 has also an extremely compelling narrative and characters, and the art in that game was the last made by Nomura Tetsuya for the FF series outside of the logo and some box arts. I'd also highly reccommend it, but in my opinion the character moments hit less hard than 7 just because it's pixel art.
@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley
@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley 2 ай бұрын
@@Edu27615 Nomura did the character designs in FF7, too. In fact, in checking Wikipedia, it seems he was the LEAD character designer of VII, the first time that happened as opposed to sharing that spotlight like with FF VI. And it goes on to inform he would be lead designer for many other FF and Square Enix titles. I'm not certain where you got that all he did after 6 was logos and box design, lol. If anything, Square Enix relies TOO much on him, which unfortunately has caused him to be pulled too thin on many projects. That's caused issues with things like Final Fantasy Versus XIII to have to be scrapped and redone with a new director and with a new direction of being a stand-alone FF game, FF XV. But as for VI, like I said, I'd play it if it got the Remake trilogy treatment. I actually hated playing the original FF7 back in 2010 (played it so I could understand Crisis Core and Advent Children better). I loved the story and characters, but I used cheats and guides and rushed through it to get to the newer, "better" stuff. I don't like turn-based combat but everything else about 7 intrigued me enough to push through and play it. But as I said, whenever 6 gets a glow-up, I'll be happy to buy it.
@stripschicken87

@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValleyyou should definitely play the pixel remaster of FFV. The gameplay is good enough to where it doesn’t even need a remake. It is my personal favorite of I-VI. I actually think the game would be made worse with 3d graphics and a FF7R style gameplay

It’s kind of insane how this game’s severe limitations are also the reason it was able to be so huge. In just 3 years, the team at Square was able to take a bunch of triangles and blurry background images and turn them into an honest-to-god epic; a grand narrative with multiple acts that spanned an entire planet and was, still is, and forever will be, incredibly gripping and emotionally resonant. Compare that to the Remake trilogy, which is shaping to take ~15 years and 3 full games to tell a story on that same scale using modern, hyper-realistic graphics. But unless you’re remaking the most popular jrpg ever made which is guaranteed to sell well, nowadays it is no longer feasible for major studios to make a game on that scale. The modern standard of graphical realism necessitates that the scope of games be limited.

Not that it makes it much better but i think its closer to 8-10 years of development for all 3, which is still crazy i remember nomura didint want to do it because he knew how much of an investment going into a project like this was gonna be, imagine commiting yourself to 10 YEARS of development time and your life to realize this remake Sidenote i guarantee part 3 will take 3 years instead of 4 like rebirth, since 1. They can reuse a lot of assets made for rebirth and 2. It lines up perfectly for the FF7 30 year anniversary

@@justhaku9240and when all is done the only reason you would play remake or rebirth and part 3 is because of the combat system, and the fmv if square was smart they would have cut the expanded bs, would have taken 6 years the fact that the atmosphere isn't even on rdr2 level shows the half heartedness of the game. Part 3 will either have a simple emotional ending. Or more convoluted information overload just to confuse you.

@@sloppyjoe2687 half heartedness? Dude... that isn't a matter of opinion that is objectively in the very meaning of objective incorrect, half hearted would be making one game that's one to one to the original and not 10 years of devs working on a trilogy, also if you know ANYTHING about the actual development you'd know this isn't some ubisoft openworld number 37 there was so much love, sweat and tears poured into this that that sentence is downright just wrong and disrespectful. And I don't say all of this because I think remake and rebirth are perfect masterpieces with no flaws im not blind to the fact it has issues, but critize those real issues rather then come to false conclusions about the effort they poured into it Also genuine question but ive been trying to understand what does "not even come close to the atmosphere ot RD2" even mean I don't understand what you mean by that

@@justhaku9240 @justhaku9240 so what i mean by this is simple if you want to see all rpg games have you vacuuming, having you pressing ∆ for crystals have you pressing a button for satelites that unlock more satelites and mini battles only to to have this as a sort of reward system and if you want this in part 3 then for me yeh thats a no. That is direspectful to the devs to waste and squander their talents. It has no substance and no emotional value what soever. If You want these repetitive things to continue and your happy to them in all and any rpg please go ahead and write to them. Maybe you can get them in the next witcher games. because the devs put the hearts, souls, blood, sweat and tears; saying hey you know what would be a great idea that people will share life times from now. And talk about with there friends that this is the highlight of the game ( gameplay) Its this guys lets have cloud press buttons!!! The audience will love it, they will laugh, cry it will change there life forever and we the team staff at square worked so hard on this!! If They had any of this garbage in any ff series from now ill set that guy fucking computer on fire. people who would even consider this instead lets give an example. Of a actuall reward system that pays off. Suddenly your in the jungle its cold, you can see the wind shaking the trees, the clouds are fucking moving. You can hear the sound of the actual wind. you can see frost fog whatever the game has a time cycle, so suddenly its night. Remember how in ff15 the devs said wait i know at night lets have monsters appear out of the ground so overpowered that it makes players think yeh i'm gonna camp. So maybe your party members like yuffie are saying its freezing etc whatever tifa getting frozen she can barely feel her hands. This is atmosphere. Maybe it starts to rain heavly and tifa clothes are soaked and you can see some nips, her hair wet its not my fan service as i didn't give a shit about the fan service of zack. But its just an example im giving you. So there tifa soaking maybe cloud looks. Maybe he comforts her Maybe aerith and yuffie shout at him. Maybe they lite a fire, maybe the fire size depends on how much items you collected or how much wood you've gathered. Maybe they light a fire with magic. The roaring sounds of the fire the chirping of crickets. Perhaps there a lake or river Maybe red 13 just swipes his paws at the river. Cair sith just plopping his hands in at it. Maybe barret starts shooting like mad. Cid there smoking. Under the starry night sky, Chillaxing. Maybe someone uses thunder magic like lets say a dynamite like in rdr2. And all the fish just fucking plop out. Maybe this is all gameplay or a optional side quest or more dialouge and choices for you the player to make. Maybe a monster comes out the fucking bushes if you choose a option that says all the party go to sleep and no one keeps watch Heck a goblin that looks freaking scary like the 1985 film legend jumps out and not like the gheto goblin from the og. Maybe this is the type is from goblin slayer, the goblin that gonna rape and stab you to death. Maybe if yoh had vincent in your actual party the cutscene is different and he turns into a beast and scares all the goblins away. Maybe its not a cutscene at all. There's so many scenerios that could make the journey exciting, scary, or what was originally intended Dark, Melancholic at the end of the world. Maybe there a secret tavern in a secret forest and if you drink this drink for 20, 000 gil you gain a new ablity? Limit break etc Ff is about storytelling wtf are you on about. Atmosphere both visually and in sound and music add to the experience and feel of the world of ff7 But not just that but a fantasy world. Any fantasy world just an example would be that of Berserk and its atmosphere. So no i am not talking about a 1:1 remake that makes no fucking sense you would need to have a shot for shot pre rendered backgrounds. If that was the case though i would build upon shots. In the prison in the og there an image of the dersert, it plays a dusty little number and you get lost and you keep going back an forth. However if you find a cactuar, guess what it pays off. At that scene even though it made me furiously lost it paid off. I remember that. Well they completly scrapped that just like the quote " and the lights in the basement never went out" Maybe maybe they could have has that dersert scene and heck maybe for 2min are characters could of got lost under the blazing sun with that mirage effect like the og. Shit maybe barret could have been crying for water. No thats ok mate just press a button... You have found a monster oh yes lets have mai and chadley get more screentime then my fucking party members whom i love and care about. You want another scene Lets go with the rain scene in a forest/ jungle whatever its thundering, you hear the lightning and if you follow that thunderstorm maybe it will lead you to a side quest, heck maybe it will lead you to a scene where you obtain ramuh material because suddenly the lightning fucking strikes a tree. Shit gets condensed fuck knows something creative. Thats a reward system, memorable like the chocobo dance. and maybe you want to see this reward system again because it pays off. You remember it give you vibes. It feels like a real world and you are experiencing this. Just like the og did with its side quest of the chocobos with KOR. It pays off. However be my guess if you want to sit around the table and say to the devs oh by all means were going spend 10 years of hard work. And from now on were going to shove some satelites and crystals and moogles in each world region you can press a button. You will love it. Oh by the way padd this shit out alot i mean really make remake and rebirth filled with it. Yeh thats the world journey i want them to remember 😌 go for it bro its not too late telll them to put that in the ff9 remake. By Atmosphere i mean the mood feeling spirit, ambience, its that simple. I'm just giving an example of a game because rdr2 did it really fucking well considering its fucking ps4 game. Ghost also did an amazing job. But ill explain further Like for example if you have a jungle you would feel lost right. This literally some of the critical feedback people are giving back its a jungle its meant to be like that. In a real jungle you be scared right, poisonious things all around things that can literally kill you that would make you feel like the film 2017 jungle. when your in gongaga many have said there furious because of the way the jungle is a widely confusing area. To me it strikes me as a layered zelda dungeon with many floors. So the mood is gosh i hate this place. With the swamps at grasslands in the og there wasn't much too it. It was all very much the same color and bright. However in rebirth it goes darker makes it so that this part is kinda foreboding, dead trees twisted roots the ground kinda rotted, the water not bright but murky. The lighting kinda has a sort of aura to it. obviously for new players the experience i should hope is more intense since they have no clue what will happen. Instead of a repetitve stuff, padding in both remake and rebirth and be put to actual fucking work. People think its not important but i disagree if your gonna make a world give it fucking life otherwise yeh just give me pre rendered backgrounds. But yeh this game is done now so it doesn't matter. This is all you got from it. The end. Don't get me wrong what i so what good. And i enjoyed alot of it. But its lazy repetitive, and a chore. Its unfinished , unpolished. And i have no reason to replay years later for nostalgia sake. People say don't do it fine. But if i dont do it i can't get the reward system. And im gonna fucking need it if there a 20 phase boss rush in part 3. Plus it the game i want to see whats out there. If you still don't know what atmosphere is go and play little nightmares. Fucking hell mate.

@@justhaku9240 hey sorry for thr late reply i thought i replied to this. Guess it didn't send. Yeh it be too long to really explain why the reward system isn't a masterpiece filled with love sweat blood or tears, and that goes for the same reason why the world building isn't either. If you wanna talk more perhaps there another platform but overall people have made videos discussing the very same thing at least more or less. Imagine your a writer in a room and your idea of pouring blood sweat and tears is too press ∆ for crystals ... So yeh these are the flaws i am talking about. There nothing false about them. If you want to see vacuuming in part 3 you've already done a bad job. I am not talking about the story i haven't even touched upon that and i won't. Partly because many youtubers disappointment are focused on the ending for part 2 and thats where the ranting comes from and are waiting on part 3 to make part 2 good. Which i think is kinda silly but i understand where there coming from. In my case though the idea of talent sqaunder on meaningless padding and trying to make content for content sake to stretch the game into 100+ hrs that could of just been content to A. aid the game in emotional substance. B. Just got on with the game instead of installments. Either way this is it. Part 2 is over. There nothing left that was it. Just repetitive stuff over and over. Making it less of a sacred journey, taking away its atmosphere in the process and simply making it a chore.

1:15:00 I don't have the same sort of love as other people for this game, but I will give it props for that. Materia being Materia means that even when you lose your healer, you still have a healer. Who even is the mage? The thief? You decide! When all gameplay roles are interchangeable, you can actually do shit like this since you don't have to risk pissing the player off by handicapping them *too* much.

As someone who did not have a childhood filled with video games and is catching up on all the iconic FF7 legacy--thank you so much for this video!! I don't have the IRL time to play FF7 og so I really appreciated the in-depthness of this playthrough and the meaningful commentary. I also am just now learning the truth about Cloud, Sephiroth, etc and its INSANE (as I know everyone knows more or less, but still).

This was a really sick video. Was great to see ff7 in a digestable format. I've played the game like 10 times. But having a 2 hour video that covers the whole game is really nice. Saves playing it again and reminds me of all the stuff that happens ready for remake and helping with theory crafting. As the remake trilogy goes wild with it especially the ending of rebirth.

Final Fantasy 9 is the underdog of the franchise. It's wacky, fun, depressing, and all around a great time. I'd like to see your take on it at some point. GREAT video. Thanks as always for givin' the game your best shot, doing side quests and paying attention. I love being able to both see your reactions as well as use these as a sort of Time capsule to when I first played them. FF7 helped teach me to read, as cheesy as that is, this was in my frickin' formative years.. so it's always a pleasure to come back to it. Keep doin' your think Connor! :)

I look forward to when you try the Remakes, they're really interesting and Rebirth has some good Cait Sith scenes. Honestly. Zack's final words to Cloud (revealed in Crisis Core) are what I believe triggered Cloud's assimilation of Zack. His mind was scrambling to protect itself from the trauma and Zack saying "you are my living legacy" was twisted to do so. From there, Cloud's mind began to piece the story together in a way that not only protects him from the grief of Zack's death, but the intense shame he'd felt as well and experimentation. The enhancements from the experiments allowed him to keep up appearances because thanks to it, he really was that strong and had the appearance to boot. FF7's compilation is so sick.
