FYI, in the AG hydraulic cylinder world, that "holding valve" you mentioned at about 13:30 is called a "double piloted check valve". Its purpose is to hold a cylinder's position even if the hoses feeding the cylinder lose pressure.

Casey, love/hate your video's. So good to see Central Oregon again but makes me so home sick. As you were driving down the grade into my hometown it is amazing how little it has changed. I have seen way scarier things than a lost wheel on that grade, particularly in the winter. I may just have to drop back in to P'ville, check in with the old timers, and look you up while I'm at it. Thanks again for all you do.

I was at first, but then again he probably realized that he wasn't set up to help them in any way. I bet if he had been able to see find the missing tire he would have snagged it and ran it back up to them, but what they really needed was the tow truck.
@johnchristopherson2957
@johnchristopherson2957 Жыл бұрын
Honestly, there wasn't much that he could do in the Jeep. Also, the driver was safely pulled over to the side of the road aka out of the lane of traffic, so the car wasn't a hindrance to the flow of traffic. However, I am sure that Casey would have pulled over and rendered aid if the tire had hit another vehicle, or if he saw the tire so that he could return it to the driver.

I would've stopped to offer any help because that's what I do. I guess that tire/wheel bounced over the guard rail & in to the abyss
@johnchristopherson2957
@johnchristopherson2957 Жыл бұрын
@speedfreak8200 I appreciate and understand your willingness to help. However, unless the situation is dangerous, aka the car is on fire, there appears to be injuries, the car(s) is(are) in the lane of traffic, etc, (I didn't see any of these conditions when I watched the video) the best course of action as a civilian is to just call the police to report the accident (off camera). Of course, if you are a cop, FF, or medical professional, this may be different because they most likely have the right supplies, the most current training, procedures, and personal to contact.) I was a volunteer FF for several years and have basic medical response training, so I know that stopping on the shoulder can be very dangerous (traffic and potentially the actual people), and there wasn't anything that any civilian could do to really help in that situation, and Casey would have most likely been in the way. With that being said, in the video, Casey was focused on what was the immediate danger, which was the "run away" tire that could have seriously injured and/or killed someone if it hit another vehicle. Since the tire didn't appear to hit anyone, and it wasn't even retrievable, there wasn't anything he could do to render aid.

@@johnchristopherson2957 This is the problem in America today. Everyone drives by with the attitude that it's someone else's reponsibility to stop and help. I've been stranded along the side of the road many times for many reasons and it is always shocking how sometimes hundreds of people just drive by assuming that someone else will do the right thing. Even if you can do nothing, just the emotional support of knowing that you're not alone is helpful. What if he was having a medical emergency? What if he was choking. Yeah, the police will eventually show up in 20 minutes to cataloge the body. It's basic human kindness to ask those in need if they need help. To just brush it all off on to the government is sickening. There simply is not enough government to tend to all of these people. It is OUR responsibility as citizens to take care of each other. For one thing the guy was standing behind his car, not the safest place to stand so just reminding hm to stand outside the guard rail would have been helpful. But hey, that's someone else's job.
