Don't cross your fingers - close your eyes and hope for the best when you're buying a piece of vintage NuTone Equipment. You should realize that most on-line sellers have no real idea about what they have (good or bad) and they will paint the best possible picture for what they're selling. Details will be overlooked - basic information will be completely wrong and what you get in the box may be very different than what you expect. Don't believe that "Refurbished" means anything beyond "they whipped if off with Windex" - There's no such thing as "Manufacture Refurbished" NuTone Does Not refurbish equipment. Lastly, even if it is really NOS ~ Never Installed ~ that doesn't mean it will work. If it's more than 5 years old, you must consider its "shelf-age" especially if it's 30+ years old. - Chris

I remember you bought another one that was NOS with the CD player having the same issue - this was like 5 or 6 months ago. Did you get that one fixed. Glad you are local to me.

Hi jewllake: The Video you are referring to is from April 2020 - Yes, I was able to repair the CD Player and that IM4406 Master Station is fully functional - Chris

Even though the CD player doesn't work, you ended up with a really nice unit. I know the CD player is a failure point on pretty much all IM/IMA-4406s (especially the IM-4406s)... but you're right, you're still taking a gamble buying anything NOS (or supposedly NOS)... a few years ago, I bought what I thought was a brand new desk fan off of a website that I don't believe exists anymore. It turned out that the motor was bad right out of the box. I ended up calling the company, and they made it right by sending me a brand new one to replace what was supposedly a customer return. And that one worked perfectly. So it's not just intercoms, but pretty much anything, that you have to be careful of when purchasing something that is believed to be NOS.

Hey Vincent: It's very good that the manufacturer did the right thing about the fan you purchased. When buying any NuTone Intercom Equipment - buyers need to slow down and put in the time to research what they really need and then what they're considering buying. I understand this is a lot to ask, but it will pay off in the long run. - Chris

@@northsideservicecompany3567 I actually called the retailer, and they were the ones that sent me out a new fan. They let me keep the old fan, so I'll keep it for its spare parts.

@@northsideservicecompany3567 sry for the late response, it was a 3303 system, It was supposed to be all there but the power supplies were missing, had to buy another one for parts, it worked out ok, just alot extra money. It came with the programmable doorbell, db55 I think you said. Its independent of the intercom and older, can that be wired into the 3303? Its neat learning this stuff, thanks

It does sound like the seller really thought it was the correct unit in the box. But he is not an expert like you are. Hmm no movement of the laser sled or rotation motor. Power failure or micro fuse on the pcb maybe?. Some c.d units won't even spin the disk if it can't focus the laser. Some don't give a dam and spin the disk. I hate c.d players as the laser assembly can act up and fail to read the disk with enough clarity to play it. There is no obvious fault.

Hhi zx8401ztv: I agree that the seller listed the item in good faith and thought he had the correct information. CD Player are by far one of the most difficult products to troubleshoot and repair. The CD Players in the IM / IMA4406's have age related power supply problems and laser diode problems. This is one of those "chicken & egg" situations - it's impossible to know which came first. - Chris
