I would like if NL went into these wierd openings a bit more prepared, rather than being 3 moves in a gambit and having no plan; and if finding the time to invest into preparation is the problem, I would personally love to see a video in which he goes over the process of studying the opening, I think it would be a great way to get two birds stoned at once.

He’s so nervous that Chess will be boring and lose appeal that he thinks he HAS to be “zany.” Honestly, it’s even feels a little insulting (“you pea-brains will lose interest if I don’t do wild and crazy stuff”). Just playing good Chess with some fun commentary has already proven to be a success with his subscribers, I don’t see a need to mix it up. ETA: I don’t want this to come off as toxic criticism, the games that he played in this video were entertaining, NL just needs to have more confidence in the series. I think it’s one of the best additions that he’s made to the channel in a long time and I hope that it sticks around long-term.
@dxcibel7772
@dxcibel7772 4 жыл бұрын
@@mp3545 I don't really see it as insulting because the algorithm is a fickle mistress so if only a few viewers jump ship because he plays the same games over and over it's pretty much death for the series. This is something that probably every mildly successful content creator feels anxiety over so I completely understand where he's coming from. That said, I do agree that it's much more entertaining for me to see NL puzzle out a rather positional game where he somewhat knows what he's doing than going for wild gambits that fall apart after three moves.

Nice analysis! Few thoughts: 34:18 I think the reason why computer suggests 5. h3 is not as much to defend g4, as to give a space for retreat for Bishop f4. As it is good to keep him alive, not letting the exchange for a N that happened in the game So maybe instead of giving up that Bishop via Bg3 you could hold on to it via Bg5, and h6-g5 wouldn't work bc Nh5 would hang in the face of Qd1 34:48 I think 15. Ne4 is where things start getting sad for white, putting Ns in front of pawns is not so good, as you block your pawns from pushing forward, and after 15. ... d5 you just lost 2 tempos and let black retake center. I'd vote for 15. e4, also with queen-side castle you might want to put your King to b1, that wat a2 is protected and Nc3 is free to fight for the center

I play that same gambit (Blackburn gambit) . The moves that you should play are e5 then e4, not allowing White's knight to go to f3, developing both of your bishops, sometimes you can develop your queen as well, threatening checkmate. If white plays e3, seemingly stopping you from playing pawn to e4, you should push pawn to e4 anyway. Also, your light square bishop should not pin your opponents knight (you want to displace your opponent's Knight by pushing your e pawn). That bishop belongs to f5 where it controls diagonal for the Knight fork on c2 in same lines. Your dark square bishop belongs either to c5 or b4 square. Check your games with the engine to see what it suggests if you don't get the initiative in the opening. I have crushed many people by using that gambit. Even if the opponent knows what he should do, if you also know the theory, you should eventually be able to equalize the position (as far as I know, this opening is a draw if white accepts the gambit). If your opponent doesn't know what he is doing, you will be able to have some very nice and brutal wins.

4:40 Nope, you ARE in the better position and you could have been in an even better one, if not even had won by then, when you would have not moved your pawn to f6 but instead your queen to b4, putting the check on the king, no matter whatt he would have done about it, you could have then taken e4, changed winning a pawn while trading queens and weakening his control substantially more as your rook would have then been in the middle of the board, having enormous control and several interesting discoveries ;) I'll quote Levi: "Yeah ... that's right but ... think something ... more violent!" ;)

Ok I fell asleep watching the lesson - but im reasonably sure the point of the opening you played first game was to move your bishop to pin the knight. If he moves the knight you get their queen. NL I have an idea you could follow from now on. How about you look into strategies in the videos and then try to follow these examples as book as you can. Like before you start a match just look into a strategy for white and black, explain what they do and then try to copycat it. I am not saying have a cheat sheet on whilst playing, but you seem to have a good sense on what to do, but you have no strategy behind it so you often get into dumb situations inwhich you don't really know which move is better. With looking up strategies before you play the game itself, you can always remind yourself what the ultimate goal is with your opening. Gambits for example give you a lead in positioning and if you know which pieces to move for them to lose tempo AND the position on the board then you'll have an advantage, but knowing how the opening is made and knowing what it leads too are both equally important.

@@setokaiba2497 White can do bishop takes knight with check, black takes back with pawn. Now the strange move of white: Castles. The knight is protected because of tactics. If black takes the knight, white can move his rook to the e file, pinning the queen, which put black in a really uncomfortable position. Granted, I did not see that tactic either without any help of the engine. I thought after ...Qd5, Bxc6 bxc6, white would play Nf3 and the game is more or less equal. Which definitely would have been an improvement of the position for NL. If the opponent would not see the engine line, Qd5 certainly would have been worth the try.

NL, it's kinda frustrating that you sometimes just don't consider very simple things. at 18:25 the engine obviously wants to play f6 as this would simply win a piece immediately - that's a 1 move pin tactic, you are easily good enough to spot that within 5 seconds if you actually look at the position instead of just thinking something along the lines of "wow, I wonder what crazy line the engine wants me to play here".
